BF2 should never use the disk during the actual game, if it does you stand to lag from it. Fly very high at first is best

I tend to fly very low about 15-30 m above ground. Is there a way to fix it

Re: PR .8 techincal problems thread
Fly high about 200 all around the map at least once, out of engagement range pretty much then do your usual thing and fly low.
Its a bf2 thing not to load maps entirely, I guess to reduce loading times and memory requirements
Also defrag your hard drive, use a utility called jkdefrag because all the others are too slow imo. If all the game files are sequential it wont have to seek the drive heads across the disk(s) in the middle of a game, lagging you out

Re: PR .8 techincal problems thread
If you fly high they can see you easier and a easier lock for AA.. I wil do a defrag. SO the windows defrag program built in is not a good idea to use?

Re: PR .8 techincal problems thread
The windows one can apparently make things worse and either way its slow and impractical.
Jkdefrag is free and much more pragmatic in that it looks for the best case scenario in the shortest time and does not attempt to achieve perfection.
Flying high should be fine on most maps with helis at the map start if you are beyond view distance not many will stare into an empty sky.
The distance also gives time to flare up after lock on so long as the threat is ground based
In order to cache the map you will have to see it at some distance, which wont happen so much if you are at ground level. If you lag at ground level its death where as height gives a second leeway

Re: PR .8 techincal problems thread
If you fly above 1400 meters, you won't be engaged so long as you are more than about 770 meters from the AAV.
At 600 meters (cloud level), you can be engaged from 1500 meters away.
At 1000 meters, 1250 meters from the AAV
At 1200 meters, 1060 meters from the AAV
At 1500 meters, you can be 560 meters from the AAV.
1600 meters, no problem.
By the way, AusLogics makes a very nice defragger. Quick, and works better than Windows's

tech advise please...
So for some reason I decided to reinstall BF2, and P.R (PR had been working). Now I am getting this message when I click on the PR short cut.
" bf2.exe does not exist. Please check your working directory!: The system cannot find the file specified."
Anythoughts?

Re: tech advise please...
Go into your program files and find pr.exe, then create a new shortcut for it.
This is what mine looks like.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

Re: 'Your connection to the server has been lost'
I've had the same problems lately. I'm pretty sure it's service provider related. After a couple days it just goes away. A temporary fix would be to hit Esc as soon as you see it. for some reason that seems to reestablish the connection. Once at the main menu, just Esc back to the game.

Re: Pr
i am pretty sure u will have to reinstall pr - eventually you might be able to simply overinstall it - but i suggest that you uninstall pr before you install bf2 (and then pr again)
some times it will save you more time to go the long way around... you'll learn that soon enough when you play pr
