Re: start game>pop up> game fails. help
firestrike, you need to make sure you have the following things done IN THIS ORDER:
BF2 installed and patched to v1.41.
All previous versions of PR uninstalled and the mods\pr folder DELETED.
0.8 Core AND Levels files installed.
Even if you have all that done, try wiping and starting from scratch. If you still have problems after a fresh install, let us know.

Re: start game>pop up> game fails. help
mods/xpacks is where purchased expansion packs from EA Games, like the Special Forces addon, are located. Perhaps there is a problem with the expansion packs you have installed?
Edit: When Ferris Bueller says "try wiping and starting from scratch", I'm inclined to believe that he means to fully reinstall BF2, and I agree with his post.

One last problem to deal with.
I managed to give Punkbuster enough of a spanking to have it stop kicking me. Now the only time i really crash is if i try to load another map on the server after i played a round. When the new map starts loading, i get a Crash to desktop at around 50%. Anyone has this particular occurrence.
BTW, this happens consistently enough for me to spot it.

Crash to desktop after 5mins of play!!!!!HELP!!!!
I have a problem that has really bugged me for awhile and I have never found any solutions for it. I have read a lot of other threads and done many searches but nothing has fixed my problem.
Whenever I play PR it will play fine for about 5-10 minutes but then the game freezes for a second and then I get kicked to the desktop with no error message or anything. Most of the thread I have read is people getting CTD when they are loading or just finished loading the map. But thats not my problem.... I can load the maps fine, i just get kicked to desktop at random times while playing and it drives me crazy. I can't even play one full map without getting kicked.
I have tried different video drivers, checking system temperatures, setting bf.exe to run on only 1 cpu (setting affinity), updating pb, reinstalling bf, reinstalling PR, I even reformatted Windows and nothing has worked....
System Specs:
AMD 4400+ 64 X2 Dual
3x 512mb Corsair pc3200 ram
BFG 8800GTS 640mb PCI-E Video Card
Creative Labs X-FI Fatality sound card
Any help would be much appreciated as this makes me wana go insane because PR is the only game I have fun with anymore
Edit: I recently read a thread that you have to set game resolution to 1024x768 or you will CTD. I will have to try this because I am playing at custom 1680x1050 resolution because otherwise the textures look like crap and the text is all blurry. (just thought I should mention that i was playing in custom res)

Re: Crash to desktop after 5mins of play!!!!!HELP!!!!
Your CPU isn't one known to overheat, but I have heard a few comments of the 8800GTS overheating. Is this problem isolated to PR, or does it carry over to other graphic intensive games?
BFG likes to overclock everything, so they are particularly prone to overheating issues.
EDIT: I skipped over the part where you checked system temperatures. Sorry.
EDIT 2: I bet you will find a lot more help over here, at the official PR forums.

Re: Crash to desktop after 5mins of play!!!!!HELP!!!!
Dizz1e,
I think the resolution problem only occured when your resolution was less than that. Having a higher resolution isn't a problem (I use 1920x1200 and it doesn't CTD).
Have you tried clearing out your BF2 cache? I've heard that solves some CTD problems.
If you have Vista, go to: C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods
and delete the cache folder entirely. The next time you play PR, it will create a new one.
Hope that helps,

Re: start game>pop up> game fails. help
I had that exact problem sm_FireStrike and the only thing that solved it was to completely uninstall BF2 and start over in the order that Ferris mentioned above. Now it works fine.

Re: Crashs in load up ?
Did you install BOTH PR 0.8 files? There is a "core" set-up and a "levels" set-up. The levels set-up has all the maps, so it sounds like that may be the problem. Also, try re-downloading and re-installing everything from scratch.

Re: Crash to desktop after 5mins of play!!!!!HELP!!!!
Also, check your memory. I'd recommend an upgrade anyway, considering how cheap memory is. I dont recommend that anyone play PR with less than 2gb on board. 2GB these days can cost you as little as $40 if you look.

Re: One last problem to deal with.
Do you get any error messages?
I have a similar issue with Vista 64 -> memory.dll error pretty much every single mapload since 0.8. It used to be after 3 maps in the previous version and I sorta fixed it by setting lighting to medium. I crash around 20 to 30% of the bar.
There is a fix where you need to hack the PR.EXE to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory, but I have yet to try it.
How much memory do you have?

Re: start game>pop up> game fails. help
From the Manual:
Quote:
1. Installation
Before installing Project Reality 0.8, make sure your Battlefield 2 installation is patched to the newest Version (currently 1.41). If you own the Add-On or Booster Packs, the order of installation is as listed below:
1) Battlefield 2
2) Add-On: Special Forces (if available)
3) Booster Pack: Euro Force (if available)
4) Booster Pack: Armored Fury (if available)
5) Full Patch to 1.41
6) Project Reality 0.8 core installer
7) Project Reality 0.8 levels installer
- If you have a previous installation of Project Reality (0.75 or lower) on your computer, you should completely remove the PR directory which is located in the mods folder of your BF2 installation
- Also if you have a previous installation of Project Reality (0.7 or lower), you should delete the existing shortcuts before installing 0.8
- If you receive a warning screen when starting Project Reality, this is most likely due to a bad shortcut or joining via Xfire. Please use the shortcut provided by the PR 0.8 installer to start the game
- Our sound artists have been stretching the BF2 sound engine to it's limits. In order to have the best possible experience with Project Reality it is very important that you enable EAX in your BF2 sound options
|
Hope it helps.
