Vista users problems solved look here!

Ok guys , i have been having lots of problems with vista and i am refusing to reinstall xp , one of the biggest problems with vista for lag and the memory problem when loading new maps , it all seems to be caused by the way vista uses your memory up , to seem smart vista uses super repfetch , which looks at the most used programs and loads then into memory , so no matter how much memory you have vista will use it , which is all very well untill you try and load a large chunck of info , if map change etc, so to make vista run more like xp , we can disable superfetch altogether by

In the "start search box " type , services.msc.

then

Double-click on Superfetch in the list to open up the properties, and then change the drop-down to "Disabled". You can also click Stop to immediately turn it off.

and thats it , no more problems , or less anyways!

Re: One last problem to deal with.

PR or bf2 doesnt use more then 2gb ever, we went over this and one guy carefully recorded its actual usage and it wasnt close

What you will see is alot of texture memory overflow from the graphics card being allocated to the pr process but thats not limited to the 2gb or it'd crash

If you dont own a gtx with 750meg or whatever then it's likely this is what you are seeing

If you use AA it consumes a ton of texture memory also

If you alt tab out in the middle of a game, windows will dump the cached textures and pr will resume its normal size. You should see a drop in memory usage because the windows desktop wont use as much memory as you just were in game.
After you alt tab back into the game, it starts reloading those textures (pr process will rise in size again) and you will most likely lag a bit till its got them back off the hard drive

The textures on your video card are not flushed like that.

If you want an obvious example, ramiel is an absolute mmonster. Fly over that map in the littlebird and view every building. It uses over 2.5 gig on my machine plus another half gig on the video card.
I alt tabbed on that map and it crashed the game it was paging to disk so bad

Vista may work differently (or not at all )

Have a look at this util
http://www.sendspace.com/file/0bt32z

Code:
Vidmemwatch

Requirements:

-- DirectX 9.0c
--. Net Framework 1.1

Installation:

It is the programme to directly executable file. If all conditions are met, can be started immediately.

Installation of. Net Framework 1.1

The Microsoft. NET Framework 1.1 Windows Update can be purchased and installed automatically.

Remove the software:

By deleting the program file, all parts of the software deleted. The conditions must be defined by their setup programs removed.

Position:

The video shows the Memory Watcher of graphics memory on the graphics card and memory (APG, PCIe).

Re: One last problem to deal with.

This is in 64 bit Vista i get this memory dll error and crash to desktop. It's mostly happens when the map changes, but i have crashed to desktop in game also a couple times. And PR is the only game i get this in. Not in the other BF2 mod PoE do i get this error, so my feeling is actually that this is a PR bug.

Re: One last problem to deal with.

Those who have that error, what is your pagefile setting (and yes you need one even with 8 Gigs of ram) ?

Re: One last problem to deal with.

The problem has gotten worse for me and i'm now desperate! I now crash to desktop just 1-5 min into the game, every time. I was fine yesterday. I haven't changed a thing. All other games run fine.

jabar al burj CTD?

so i finally iron out PB issues, and can play at least some of the time with out a handshaking kick, and now...i connect and play for a map, it switches to jabar al burj (or whatever its called...the one with the dam and the carrier) and i load about 90% and CTD. i re-connect and load fully...play for less than 5 minutes, CTD.

i dont know what to do anymore. i am ready to give up. help!?!?!?

specs:
amd dual core 64x2 4200+ (2.21 ghz)
2 gb ram
nvidia ge force 8600 gt. with this new beta driver (177.92) that came bundled with some stuff...could this be the problem? the beta driver?

windows xp media center edition

i could run .75 at almost all high settins, and bf2 maxed. now i am running 1024x768 with everything else set to medium.

*edit* i got no error messages. just black screen, then desktop.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: jabar al burj CTD?

Redd - this post should be put up on the realitymod forums - I don't know how we can help you here with it. One suggestion is to uninstall PR completely, including the install files, and download it again and try to reinstall. Otherwise, make sure you have your latest drivers for your vid card and sound card.
