Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
I haven't seen it done in recent times, but i've only played 2 games of Basrah on TG since .8. I do remember in .756 many times seeing a bomb car or big red drive straight into the UCB and wipe out everything within minutes of the game start multiple times on battlearena, etc.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
I really dont mind playing insurgent or militia, but I absolutely loathe the insurgency-maps [i.e. run around like a headless chicken to defend those caches...]. When such a map come up, I very rarely play for my own enjoyment, but rather to put up a fight against the guys playing Brits/US so that they have some fun.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
I don't mind playing insurgent in Insurgency mode, but in Skirmish mode (e.g. Ramiel last night) it's a bad joke because insurgents are expected to get more kills despite crappy weapons. They make the iron sights so tiny in this game that it's just silly hard to see well enough to hit anything. I'd like to see the iron sights zoom up to something like what you would see looking over real sights.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
I always used to like Insurgency back in the .7 days. Especially on battlearena.
I also loved to play as the Insurgents, because it was a chalenge. However.... back then, it was at least a winnable challenge. Nowadays, as has been mentioned a lot, the Insurgent weapons are filled with fail in every way.
I don't mind the AK being that bad, but when the disparity between American and Insurgent weapons is so high, you really don't get any enjoyment out of playing.
I was there for that Ramiel round last night around 11pm US Central, and was lucky enough to get on the US side. You guys did VERY well when you consider how bad your weapons were. That can be attributed to skill and tactical deployment with squads working well together.
Now though, I don't like playing as an Insurgent at all. It's just so one sided.
Great example: I managed to flank the US Marksman on Ramiel (differant round) while my squad pinned him with random fire. I got in the door, crouched, sighted in, and shot at him from TWO feet away on automatic. Almost point blank range, and none of my shots landed a lethal hit.
I can easily agree that auto fire sucks and should not be accurate, but from that distance? No way. You would easily kill somebody. So, I switch and start doing short 2 or 3 round bursts. I think I hit him, but he had plenty of time to take out his rifle (he had binocs out), sight me, and kill me.
Not to mention the medic situation. While Insurgents should not have as much medical capability as a conventional army, civilians are almost never used because of the new time penalties. I for one used a civilian character from the start of the round, got killed from close range with my binoculars out and got a 60 second penalty? That's not productive to getting people to play the class.
So, I do not enjoy playing Insurgents anymore. Which is a shame, because Korengal and Ramiel are beautiful maps.|TG-AIR|shadow51585

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Korengal has come down to 20 US tickets before a US victory in 2 of the 4 times I've played it...
Out of the 3 times I've played Ramiel, the INS has won once.
Out of the 3 times I've played Al Basrah, 2 times INS have won...
I'd say things are pretty balanced.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Agreed and I wonder why this was changed. If you get shot as a civilian you are punished with 100s spawntime (according to the guy in my squad last night)? Have they changed this to stop civilians from getting killed on purpose by running towards bullets? Beats me...
I 've only seen the US win on Ramiel, usually with 150+ tickets left... same goes for Basrah. Last night I had a feeling they knew exactly where the caches were, all of em got taken out within minutes after they were discovered. The only map where I 've seen the insurgents be succesful, is Archer. I 've yet to play a full round of Korengal.
Last night I succeeded in destroying a Striker with a suicide car, I must admit it felt quite good. I guess playing as an insurgent can be fun, but it requires a completely different approach of 'tactics'...

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Despite all of this,I have to admit that I really enjoy being in a squad that is trying as Insurgents, and manages to defeat an equal number of Americans or Brits in a firefight due to cover and tactics.
Just wait it out and they will come to you. Then you can have a chance to either grenade them or hope that your AK will hit its mark. I use Ambusher more often then not now. The rifle is so much better.|TG-AIR|shadow51585

remember, Muslim extremists are the ones who have twisted around the Islam religion, and have twisted the words around as well.....not all muslim's preach the violence that the extremists do....
* I noticed that the molotov's are in the form of a retro Coca-Cola bottle (i like the 50's throwback, the ones you can purchase around Christmas time), i knew that if you put a set of teeth in a glass of coca-cola for up to two days it can desinegrate (sp?) or almost disenegrate (sp?) the teeth, but i didn't know it was flammable too.........i'm i drink diet coke, or diet pepsi for that matter.Last edited by Delta*RandyShugart*; 09-09-2008 at 06:50 PM.

I didn't like insurgents/militia before .8 except from Al Bashra.
but now it has become much more fun with the new hideouts and all

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Utterly detest playing as insurgent, did in 0.756 and still do in 0.8. The maps are beautiful, Korengal is my current favourite map of all time, just as long as I end up on US. The AK is now worthless to me and I see little advantage in cqb even with the bigger round. Personally I dislike insurgency mode because it encourages some smacktard play at times, I think a lot of players like it because they can do stuff that isn't allowed in AAS, at least that seemed to be the case in the previous version.
Al-Basrah, IMO possibly the most over rated map of all time, closely followed by Kashan. Maybe if I had a few decent games I would change my mind, but whenever I play as insurgent I just don't see teamwork or any cohesive organisation. Constantly throwing molotov's and firing off rusty, inaccurate rifles is not my idea of fun. Give me conventional infantry any day.

You do not want the enhanced situational awareness the sharing of information should bring negated by the loss of awareness that too much comms can inadvertently cause.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
I agree with that, though i do sometimes like al-basrah, and i have to give so much credit to the dev's bc it was the map that really brought the other insurgent maps to the game, at least from my PR experience (i got on board around .4 or .5).
Kashan is the most overrated AAS map there is, but let me stay on topic, and say, wicks, play as an insurgent on korengal, especially to vent some stress nothing better is to attack the US main base as they pour out, it really is a great way to vent and to have fun as you are doing it.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Playing insurgent is ok... well no I lie. I hate it tbqh (except for molotof, thats fun stuff... and rpg) the accuracy on the AK-47 is pretty bad and I don't like the iron-sights on any insurgent weapon. But doing suicide bombing in a car/big red is always fun no matter who you are.

Re: Do you enjoy playing as an insurgent?
Maybe I just like using the RPG a little too much.

Especially firing it into a squad that are hunkering behind a wall after flanking them. That's just.... wow.
Insurgency mode is more of a break to me. The Insurgents have little reason to squad up, even in .8 You can be an effective Insurgent without being in a squad. Though it is enjoyable to be in a squad, you get no advantage such as rally points. I think that's why a lot of people play it.
When you really want to experiance PR, you play any other mode. Insurgency mode is just a chance to be a headless Insurgent (especially and quite literally, when going up against the M4) that runs all over, and randomly attacks where he can. But IRL, isn't that the case?|TG-AIR|shadow51585
