Re: Mumble voip!
Didnt want to start a new thread, but is it just me or is the Realitymod.com website a little messed up. I type it in and I get a User Name and Password dialog box. It says the website is passworded

Re: Mumble voip!
Glad somebody else took notice to this. I was trying to get the torrents to download the latest update to PR since I just got my computer back up and going. Got my RAM back today and wanting to play PR badly. Lot of things going on lately since my computer has been down for a little over 2 weeks but it feels like it has been 2 years and this is all new to me AGAIN.

Re: Mumble voip!
Sounds great. Teamspeak works fine so far. Although many people are in TS by now the discipline is of the way that only those who need to talk are talking in TS. Of course mumble would be a great addition. When you coordinate with a squad you can use mumble without intereferring with TS when it is needed to radio in Air support.

Re: Mumble voip!
I don't know how many times I need to say it: We're working on it and all we're asking for is some patience. I realize everyone is excited about the software, but as I said before it isn't a snap-your-fingers-and-its-done type of thing.
I put a sticky up with the installation instructions and the PR devs have a server up, and I think they even created a channel or two for TG, so use that to your heart's content, and if and when we get a TG server up I'll let you guys know.|TG-X|d1sp0sabl3

Re: Mumble voip!
Will we use Team channels? Or just an open one, because I think you would be able to hear enemy chat IRL? Any thoughts?

Re: Mumble voip!
I actually have quite a few reservations about this but I'll reserve judgement until I've tried it fully. Everybody using the same channel will make it more realistic i.e. you will be able to hear enemy chatter close up. It will also be confusing and kill the immersion as the PLA squad near you will probably be babbling in english. Thats why most players leave the in game voip set at the native language of each force, it adds to the immersion and makes enemy players easier to identify. Removing the need for comm rose communication in game will actually break some of the immersion for me at least.
Also everybody in one channel will just lead to some of our less mature players taunting each other when they get within earshot.
In addition 100m radius for directional voip is ridiculous, you cannot hold a conversation with someone 100m away, you certainly can't on a battlefield or in a wooded or built up area. Even 50m is pushing the boundaries of realism quite some way. In addition the bigger the radius of effect the more players that will fall into that radius the more comms noise you will have.
Personally I can see this being very popular for a while then people turning it off. I've already got secure comms with my squad and people on TS. In particular the secure squad comms (i.e. silent comms as far as enemy is concerned) is a huge advantage over real life, as even a throat mike requires talking out loud as it were. I can also see people becoming a niusance with this, we already have chat spam, over entusiastic TS use at times, imagine the added noise of hearing every remark in a 100m radius.
I think it's a great idea but will be approaching it with caution lol.

You do not want the enhanced situational awareness the sharing of information should bring negated by the loss of awareness that too much comms can inadvertently cause.

Re: Mumble voip!
When you have max distance at 50m you can hear that people are talking, barely.

Only problem I've had so far is when I'm commander, I hear everyone faintly. And Crawling telling me to surrender in a cave.

Re: Mumble voip!
Yes 100m is too much but we could just move the recommended distance to 50 or 30m. Plus the thing of being able to hear everything gunner is due to the minimum output being 1%(necessary due to a bug at 0%)
I see mumble being used for combining of multiple squads into 1force. We did this today with about 8 people and it worked brilliantly
Also I dispair for a world where I can't make a joke while trekking across a map
what the problem would be is if people spam it with music or constantly talk. Banter at points is fine but it has a time and place, if requested people would normally shut up and if they didnt they'd be voip spamming normally anyway. There was a problem today with people calling for medics, I have no shame in atmitting I did call for a medic over this, but its just a phase and as people get used to it it will be used for propper perposes.
If the maximum distance is set correctly it shouldnt be a problem anyway. Anyway I can't see pubbies or idiots being in mumble anyway due to sheer lazyness after all how many randomers do we get in TS, especially if we have it running with a pass.
Plus yes as cool as it would be to sneak up on an enemy and wisper to them team specific channels are a must.|TG-XV|CryWolf

Thanks for the sig Bandaid (look at how well made my avatar is!)
