Re: Happy Memorial Day!

It commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in military service. AFAIK it's the same as Remembrance Day. Where are you that you celebrate it?

Re: Happy Memorial Day!

Blade means at least in the UK and some Commonwealth countries including Canada and Australia, on 11th of November, at 11 am, when the war officially ended in World War One. France also remembers on this day. 6th June is also significant for France.

Re: Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day was originally for all dead...but, in the last few years it has been focused on the fallen soldiers.

Memorial day was originally to commemorate the fallen from our unCivil War, but is has been expanded to other wars in many localities. But where I am from (rural south), Memorial day is for the civil war, and veterans day is for all others.

Re: Happy Memorial Day!

To keep with the flow of the thread:

Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States and is celebrated in a number of countries. Though it was founded officially by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872, the celebration may have its original roots in Judaism in a celebration called Tu B'Shevat. By the 1920s each state in the United States had passed public laws that proclaimed a certain day to be Arbor Day or Arbor and Bird Day observance. The dates differ and were established depending on climate and suitable planting times.
