Re: Angry Squad Leaders

Usually, SL's get angry because of an SM not doing his job. I will now strive to tell that person why I'm kicking him instead of just kicking him.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

Remember, being angry does not at all mean that to solve it you should be passive and just let things fly.

And I try to tell people before I kick them what they're doing wrong, if they don't respond in a minute or so, kick them.
I sometimes feel bad for kicking people (a few months ago somebody mentioned that I was the nicest person they'd seen). But remember it is their own fault for doing the wrong thing.

Quick tip for solving anger issues: Take a 10min break and/or eat a snack. Eating something after being very frustated works very well. Something to do with calming down something in the body... I'm no doctor, but it works.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

I have on occasion found myself drifting into something other than my usually sunny disposition. Usually a smoke break or a fresh 'drink' helps. To be fair if I get really mad I usually talk less and lose my composure and go a bit 'lone wolf rambo' and try to kill as many enemies as I can. Sometimes works, sometimes fails. I shan't bother listing all the things that drive me insane for fear of RSI but the usual suspects are,

- Pretending not to hear me when I have assigned kits twice
- Opening fire when I have specifically asked people not to
- Not helping your squad mates, ie not covering the medic who just saved your ass again whilst he goes for your sqaud mate who you just got killed as well
- Insane and pointless babble when its inappropriate i.e. CQB or Co talking, I enjoy a good social when the games quiet as much as anyone, but please stop the second I say hold comms. Don't be offended, I wouldn't be offended if told to shut up when necessary.
- Lack of support from the team

The black mood doesn't usually last long as usually some joker I know joins the squad and starts making me laugh or the whole situation just suddenly strikes me as funny. As others have said, if your squad leader has asked/told you something many times and he knows you understand him and you get and ear bashing, it's not the SL that's in the wrong, as long as he doesn't go overboard.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

90% of the time, if I get angry while squad leading, it is because someone has done something "dumb." I will take this one and only time to admit that most of the things people do which I consider "dumb" are actually just natural reactions to battlefield situations. However. If I, as the squad leader, tell my squad to "keep down" and "stay out of sight so I can recon the area," and then 5 heads pop up over the ridge line with binoculars, it gets my goat. I know, most people think "when he says 'get down' he really just means 'don't shoot'. So it's ok to look around."

If I could get just one message across to everyone who joins one of my squads, it would be this: Every time I ask you to do something, it is for a good reason. I may not always have time to explain what that reason is, but it is always important for you to listen and do what is asked of you.

More and more often these days I find myself having to resort to extremely basic explanations for why I am giving this or that order. And while it can no doubt be frustrating to have to explain to someone why you should wait inside the bunker / house / sandbag / etc and let the enemy come to you (as opposed to rushing out into his line of fire, which is exactly what the person would have done by now,) I believe that providing these kinds of lessons are the least I can do to help the community teach it's newer members how to adjust to life in PR.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

Main reason for me to get angry (similar to what disco said): I tell people to do something and they say "Why?".
I honestly dub that as the most annoying situation any squad leader could encounter. If you are looking at this, when the SL says something, do it. Like discojedi said, If your SL tells you to do something, it's for a good reason.
And if you get your head blown off when you do exactly opposite of what the SL tells you, I'm sure you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Look, SLing is tough and being a squad member who asks why the squad is defending or why the squad is hiding in the grass or whatever. That just makes SLing a lot more tougher and stressful for the SL. Lots of stress can take away focus from the SL and possibly get the squad into a lot more trouble because of less focus. I'm sure many SL's are open to suggestions. If you see a quicker route to a target that your SL doesn't know about, tell him, he'll probably thank you for it later (or at least think "Wow that was a good idea!" or something). But don't just ask why you have to do something and nag continously. This attitude may possibly get you kicked from the squad.
I almost blew my top off in this post, I think you can sense that I'm a bit angry myself in this, what with the aggressive language...

Just remember it please. As it helps your SL and yourself too. And yes, I guess it's a good lesson. I reckon that with leading of any kind, hope for the best, plan for the worst. And that counts for who you're going to be in charge of. Besides, practice makes perfect and having someone new in your squad who seems frustating (asking why etc...) just helps them along the way to adjusting to how it should be played. Obviously constant offenders and nuisances can risk getting kicked. But at least they should know why, and that helps them along the way.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

The important thing is for both squadleaders and squadmembers to let people off the hook for being angry or being less then punctual in following orders. Everybody has bad days. What happens in the game, should stay in the game imo. It's like a sportsmatch, where emotions and frustrations can at times come out, it's not a problem if it doesn't get personal, and you don't take the animosity with you when you leave the game.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

Today on Barracuda I got so mad, I just started kicking. Some guy grabbed an AA kit without asking and spawned exactly where I told him not to, gone. Another guy called me a homo for telling him to get his butt over here instead of lollygaggin around, gone.(and reported) The rest of the squad began to leave, which was fine by me(none had mics). I ended up with one last person, decided the heck with it, kicked him and left to go CO. This is an example of the pubbies I was talking about in the d1spo's thread.

But if you don't have a second person in the squad how will you have enough people to drive two tanks off the edge of the map?

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

I usually get really angry if I and my squad are doing bad, which in turn makes us do even worse

Re: Angry Squad Leaders

The way i see it, as soon as you start getting angry you start making bad decisions because your actions will be driven by emotions, not logic.
Instead of thinking the situation trough with a cold head thus covering all angles, you just rush in because you are mad and want to get over with the whole thing already.
Whenever you get angry you'll help the enemy team by focusing on your anger instead of the battlefield, losing your patience and situational awareness and eventually dying.

In a combat situation your worst enemy is fear and anger. You need to keep your head clear while making the other team angry and afraid.
I heard a lot of times, you win a fight by superior firepower. Actually, you already won before it started if you had superior brainpower.
