Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
I agree with Charity insofar as that TG, as a large and diverse community, deserves to be well represented by a multitude of teams in this event. Perhaps individual In House Squads can field teams, or various Squads can team-up together. And let's not forget the great many other TG community regulars.
However... I have to say that I am still more than a little intrigued about the idea of an "All-Star" squad. There's no reason we can't have an all-star squad in addition to the others. If we really want to make such a thing happen, I think that the only fair way would be to start a thread for nominations. Anyone can be nominated, and you can nominate yourself. After a period of time (let's say about a week, but it will depend on when the tournament is actually slated to begin) the top 20 or so names which have been nominated the most will be re-submitted in a new thread where people will be given a chance to vote for them. The 6 players who receive the most votes will then be offered spots on the All-Star team. At this point, if any nominee chooses to step down, the next person with the highest number of votes will be offered the spot.
Don't get me wrong, this is more than a little bit of a popularity contest, but so what? We're a mature community and I for one will still be able to live with myself if I'm not picked. This would be a squad that we could all stand behind, because we all have a hand in picking them. And wouldn't you love to be able to read the standings in the Golden Squad tourney and see "TG All-Stars" ranked #1. I know I would.
To clarify, here's my idea for creating an all star squad put simply. - Nomination thread started
- Any TG community player can be nominated in the thread. You may nominate yourself.
- Each person may only make one nomination. Nominating yourself counts as one nomination.
- After a pre-determined period of time, the thread will be closed and the nominations counted.
- The names of the 20 players who have been nominated the most will be placed in a new thread with a voting option.
- After another pre-determined period of time, the 6 players with the most votes will be offered positions on the TG All-Stars squad.
- If any player chooses to withdraw his nomination, the player with the next highest number of votes will be offered the spot.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
Hmm.. I believe I am going to be a little.. shall we say.. angry.. But I hope to suggest this is a use of energy to nullify what to me is energy building up negatively, by voices. So I raise mine and its intensity to make this other force, zero.
So to begin.. calmly. And the next two paragraphs encompass my position but I will develop this ‘force’ less diplomatically and more to the point further on.
Agrees with Charity in his last post. Very well said. Sorry Disco but this is my stance.
Personally I would be disappointed in TG to go down this ‘all star’ route. Reasons are stated in my prior post and Charity's. An 'all star' squad is a path that chases false values; that I see raise its head, more and more at the moment.
I should leave the comment to that, as it may be an error right now to express further and many good people have their names unasked already in this thread. I do not think of any name specifically but I can’t countenance not responding simply because others have already mentioned names. Infact, this is directly relating to the point..
But. No. It is not an error. It is an error to not say something and let the negative force increase. No. That would be good for it, and not speaking is infact the paradoxical error it relies on. Hiding is not an option either side, and I wont allow more 'sinsister' hidden values on the pretext of righteous and softly spoken diplomatic ways, pretending right ways. If I allowed kind and proper talk I would allow Wormtongue to speak; who would be hurt by my attack when the Tongue is just a poor and honest goodly liege.
I am afraid my goat is up, I am going to have to whip out to use an equal force against force – in order to dissipate this Monster.
Just don’t do it.
Your (I mean ‘your’ in a plural, it is not intended at anyone specific) ‘all star squad’ is not mine, which would be filled with players that have no ‘social status’. I can think of only one 'cool' person off the top of my head who would make it into this squad by my perceived right because of what they do, not name. And I have literally played with some of these guys that are Regulars all through the development of PR which is nearing three years in my case. Rarely do you see me bandy their names about, giving them a groom, but for sure they are here, and they know it. They just play and don’t go in for all this grooming nonsense. And they are the TG Regulars, tagged or not.
These Regulars. They are what makes up your spine. Not - some names that have cool social positions or tend to be patted on the back when it is these others that have saved your ass. Again and again.
Why you pat 'cool names' people’s back and not the others is beyond me; what gain is it for you? As that is the only reason I can think of. What Power do you intend to achieve for yourself? What status?
If you want, I’ll go back to my football manager analogy. I saw England play ‘club football’ last night and was very happy. It was about team, not names. At last we played well and showed some flair.
I am sorry if my words are harsh but this needs to be said. I would point out that if my words sound insulting, imagine what insult you do to those – Regulars – that do not enter your social status radar (Regulars.. not even pubbies, the Lord strike me down for saying that word, for fear I open a squad and get half the players or all of them that kind). I believe the Americans around us have a word for this ‘all star’ primate social grooming going on: Hokum.
Apt word, because even I can’t make the word ‘Community’ out of it.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
+1 Taip3n, from where I am standing you hit the nail on the head... of course it could be an optical illusion.
Clearly there are regular players who are more skilled tactically and in other ways, than others. Some of them are talked about, some of them are not. I feel the all-star concept would do little to help the community and appears to be running against the grain of the TG community ethos - or at least the way I understand it.
Perhaps IHS squads entering may be a better approach (assuming they were interested i n doing so.)

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
Hey their Taip3n!
Take a deep breath! I understand what you are trying to say and I can agree with some of your ideas, but it seems to me that you feel offended by the 'all star' team. Nowhere is it said that un-tagged players cannot join or try to be chosen. Neither is it writen that un-tagged players are less worth or cannot start their own squad. You can start your own squad with the players you like
Being in an IHS does not automatically mean you are better or worse by definition. Some people like to compete, some don't it's that simple. I myself don't need to be in the all star team, but i'm also not against it. It would be a honor to be chosen by different people on TG to be in a selected squad. The fact remains that especially in a community you have players that are more known and thus more populair then others. It's just a basic fact of life!I can be happy for those who make it, why can't you?
It bothers me more that certain persons always seem to need to bash and see things negatively if it has anything to do with IHS or tagged players.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
There won't be a nomination thread because I will probably close it down. All that is going to do is cause hard feelings and misunderstandings in the community.
Why would we turn this into a TG popularity contest? That is the last thing we need to do.
It's simple: If you want to participate and represent TG then get 5 friends and do it. Have some fun, and whatever happens, happens.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
Exactly Dispo. Thanks for your insight.
Hehe Sapien, you should know by now I don't give two-hoots if you are tagged or not. It's the person/people that counts. I hope you are not thinking negativitely about my negativity. Does that mean I now have to think negatively about you thinking negatively about my negativity? That would be bonkers
I gave up about the beginning of the third time round and plummed for positivity.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
To borrow some of Taip3n's dramatic flair, Lo, The Lord hath spoken, and he has commanded that there shall be no TG All-Stars. Fair enough, it won't be the first time that one of my ideas has been decried and it won't be the last. But that's ok, because life is full of criticism and I can handle it if someone thinks differently than me.
The only thing I have left to say is this: so what?
So what if its just a popularity contest. Is anyone going to truly be heartbroken if they're not chosen for the squad? This is hardly something to rage-quit over if you ask me.
So what if certain people in the community don't like the idea of having a public opinion poll on who should be on the squad. Can these people not simply withdraw themselves from nomination? Why deny the chance to everyone else, the people for whom this contest is just another way to have some fun in the community. Think of it as " TG Idol" if you will. If you don't like it, you don't have to be a part of it.
Alas Taip3n, for it seems you are more right than you know when you speak of people who's names we adorn with glory overmuch. For as I have said, it seems The Lord has already spoken, and has decided for us, what shall be best for us. To which I say, if this truly is the will of the community, if no one really wants to hold an All Star contest, then open a nomination thread, and when no one posts there, then we'll know, because the community will have spoken.
Then again, maybe I am wrong. If even some of us can take such offense at even the possibility of a contest, then surely, our community must still have a ways to go before we are mature enough to hold one.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
I would love to see a squad of chosen people.
and of course there are players who are well know than others, its simply the fact that they play more or that they have been here at TG for a long time.
I mean it's not like everyone who would not be in that squad, would stop playing with one of those "chosen" people. Au contraire i think, because, personally, i prefer to play with better players to learn something, to become better.
But I see your point taip, maybe not the whole point since english is not my mother language.

Well, it seems that although you claim to be able to handle criticism, in truth it appears to be completely the opposite.

The rules are simple. Players can enter any 6 man squad, with up to two reserves into the tournament. They will go through knock out stages against other 6 man squads until an ultimate winner, our "Golden Squad" is decided.
- Each team must consist of six players. You are permitted to put down a maximum of 2 reserves.
- No player can be in more than one team, even as a reserve.
- Any clan, or community can enter more than one team into the tournament.
- Each team must have their own individual name. Whilst we of course encourage wit and humour, any rude or offensive names will have you removed before the tournament has even started.
- You must place down a preferred time that you will all be willing to play, and the country of your team. This allows us to structure the tournament so that we should have less people complaining they can't attend their set match times.
- Games will be played out on Skirmish mode. Each match will consist of one squad against another. The losing squad is knocked out from the tournament, whilst the winner continues on.
- The winning squad will not be decided on the end of round squad scores, but on the ticket score at the end. there will be an award at the end for scores with exceptionally high squad scores however.
- There will be no set kit load outs or restrictions. Requesting limited kits is fine, and taking enemy limited kits is also acceptable.
- Constructing firebases and assets will be banned in this event, as this can cause issues with points.
To sign up your "squad", follow the link here
The idea of this event is to see how different playing styles can make a difference between simple squad play. Whether you enjoy having your team set up an ambush down a road, or if you prefer to split your guys up and cover as much ground as possible, this is down entirely to how you and your mates play.
The sign ups will be open for a few weeks.
Good luck,
The Community Events Team.

Can't say I'm to pleased about the scoring system, but I'll post about it on the PR site.

Yeah, like you said Charity, it shouldn't be point-based.

Re: PR Golden Squad Competition
I suggest we have people PM me if they are willing to lead a squad (or if you have a team already set up). Once that's done I'll post the list here and we can start setting up teams. We should do this relatively independently; if someone sees a SL on the list they want to play with PM that person, the SL's will be in charge of their teams. If you don't know any SL's and/or aren't sure who you want to play with PM me and I'll find you a spot.
It looks like we can have the squads remain relatively independent, but we still need to make sure the squads are being filled and we have enough people/no duplicates.

I suggest you decrease the amount of tickets to 40 or 50, and remove all flags from the maps, as flags will bias the scoring system towards whichever team is defending a flag they own. Even if you don't remove the flags, you should definitely remove ticket bleed, because all it does is reward rushy, king-of-the-hill type gameplay.
Honestly, I don't really think the scoring system is any more reflective of teamwork than K/D. I guess it will work if the flags are removed, but it will be too exploitable otherwise.]

Apologies, i got that confused. It was supposed to be based on tickets system, as it slows down the squad rushing together towards the enemy. I have amended the changes above.
It is likely that the maps will remain unmodified, however, we will only be using a small selection of skirmish maps. (Possible maps include Sunset City, Ejod Desert, Al Kufrah, Jabal, Kashan, Qwai, Road to Kyongan'Ni will be a favourite I imagine.) basically, we are looking for the more linear flag layout in terms of maps.
We appreciate the maps are huge for 6 people, and we will be making necessary changes to tickets/time limits where applicable.
The reason for opening the sign ups so early was to see how much interest there would be in the event. We don't want to put in a whole load of unnecessary effort into changing maps etc for three or four teams. We want to keep it nice and simple, whilst being fun and tactical.

Eh...why don't they just make it based off tickets. Seems really frivolous to me.
