Re: Low FPS be gone.

Thanks, Startrekern. Also for the additional help with questions on Teamspeak earlier. Good stuff, you represent TG well.

Re: Low FPS be gone.

I actually increased pagefile size to it's recommended size to help me stop low FPS. It worked. This thing actually made it worse as I mentioned earlier.

Berlancic: Can you be more detailed in what you did? I don't have a clue, sorry.

Re: Low FPS be gone.

pagefile is under control panel - system usually but varies by os

Memory is the biggest reason for lag in pr or bf2. It really plays hell with the gameplay if the disk is being used too much in game.

Playing pr just before I was getting 600 meg registering on the graphics card so if you have 512, 256 or 128 meg on the graphics card it has to start using other sources and that can cause lag

game booster freed up about 67 meg memory last try for me which could be useful. I may need that for arma not sure if its better or worse then bf2 for stacking all the textures in memory at once

Er, you sure about that? I just upgraded from an AMD XP2500+ Barton Core to an AMD Phenom 9950 X4. <20 FPS with minimal settings on the Barton. Pretty much pegged @100 FPS w/max settings (well, 60, since it's an LCD) on the Phenom. The Barton's right around 5 years old. I recently found out anything under 30FPS is extremely detrimental to my gameplay. Same went for BF2142, TF2 and a slew of other games.

Of course it's hard to say it was entirely the CPU since I also went from an nVidia 7600GT to a 265.

The vast majority of your FPS increase was due to the graphics card upgrade, not the CPU upgrade.

I'm sure. The XP2500+ was released in 2003 if I recall correctly (6 years ago).

I ran vBF2 on medium settings with 40+ FPS with an ATI 9800 pro and 2400+ (2gigs ram). PR caused me to lower to low settings for a while to get the same 40+ FPS, then I got a 7600GT and 4400+ X2 (2gigs ram) and ran medium settings in PR with 50+ FPS and was able to alt tab between PR, WoW and Counterstrike without maxing out my CPUs. I just hopped up to a n nVidia 265 with 1gig video ram (still 4400+ and now 3 gigs ram) and now have all high (except textures) and 4xAA and continually max out 60 FPS on almost all maps. I dislike anything under 40 FPS because I can see the change in frames clearly. I will turn down quality for more FPS because it looks better to me to have smooth movement over fine detail.

If you were getting <20 FPS on low settings with a 7600GT you had an issue other than your processor and video card.
