Re: PR 0.86 download problems

Q: After logging into PR, I get an error message You must use "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. Please update your shortcuts as required.

A: Firstly, take note of the message under that, IF YOU HAVE JUST CREATED A NEW ACCOUNT, PLEASE RESTART PROJECT REALITY. So, if you have just created or retrieved an account, simply quit out of PR, then launch it again. It should allow you to log in.

If the error still shows, then you are not using "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. You cannot launch PR from the community tab in BF2, it must be launched from pr.exe. Check your desktop shortcuts, and make sure it looks similar to this:

(Default Directory)
Target:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"

Start In:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"

If that STILL doesn't work, you are sure that you are using pr.exe, but you still get the error, try deleting your My Documents/Battlefield 2 folder, launch PR, retrieve your account, restart PR, then see if that works.

hope that helps randy

It still doesn't work. I'm running a Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Is it possible that it's not compatible somehow? Anyway this is BS. Nothing ever goes to plan when I DL, it always takes a week to get it all set up. I want to play the new version before I go to school FFS, but it's never that way.

I've searched through a windows troubleshooter site. I think I know what has happened. Apparently something to do with a dll file called wups2 or something. It's some sort of registry file that can make a situation (the one I have) happen. When I was updating with Windows XP Service Pack 3, I remember I didn't restart the computer. This caused the wups2 file to be missing, and some auto updates to be unsucessfuly installed.

bamboo is a really good person to help with this, but if you can't reach him try ccleaner.com

its called crap cleaner, install it, run it, run crap cleaner, also run the registry part of it, and then do the quick fix, and try reinstalling .NET again.

The registry cleaner will show the problems and it u fix all it really does help.

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

Do take note that when you installed the patch it placed a DIFFERENT shortcut on your desktop labeled Project Reality 0860. The OLD SHORTCUT DOES NOT WORK.

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

*Tomato, I just read what you saw..........and after I dl this again I will try that, thank you for posting!*

The funny thing is fighter that the new shortcut that is titled Project Reality 0860 doesn't work, but yet when i click the Project Reality Shortcut, that in fact does work until I log in and it says "cannot run from pr.exe" or something like that.

Guys,

I am at my last leg, so far nothing seems to work, this is what I have tried:

Installing the PR .86 patch over .856 = did not work (will do this again if oddsodz PR installer/downloader does not work a second time)

Downloading .86 Core, and .86 Levels and installing both = PR .86 did not work (did this twice)

Downloading oddsodz PR .86 Downloader & Installer = did not work (Though I am trying it again)

After the above, I honestly do not know what to do.

I have the .NET stuff installed, I actually installed it previously and all its components a while back I have Windows XP SP3 and have all the .NET stuff installed.

Nothing seems to work, I have the CD-Rom version of Battlefield 2, and I even uninstalled mumble to make sure I wasn't double installing anything.

Its extremely frustrating, and the only thing I can think of is if a remote connection is possible (only PM me if you know how to do this, are extremely good with computers and if i know you very well.)

Delete the entire folder completely? I have moved it, I am just a bit confused, though it probably does mean what it says on the realitymod website, i saved my profiles just in case.....

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

At this point, make sure you uninstalled all PR versions and completely deleted the folders - even your bf2 profiles in My Documents (though you can save profile folders with settings and configs).

I did an update from .85 with no problem, so I have no idea why you're having these problems. If you really want help via remote access I use LogMeIn and can walk you through that. Too bad I'm not still living down in Rockland or I'd just come over and help you out!

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

I've solved my problem. I had a look at the error report, and it stated that .NET Framework 2.0 was not installed. So I installed that, then I installed 3.5 SP1 successfully. I played last night, it was great. After the server died, I hopped on to Chicago with Wreckingcrew. And in that round I got 22 kills with the scoped M249 on Jabal with no deaths. And I made an 800m sniper kill on the first shoot I've ever done at 800m on Op Archer. Pretty cool night.
I'll leave the thread open for anyone who has any other problems with 0.86.

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

REINSTALLING BF2 in hopes that it installs correctly, reinstalling the 1.41 patch and then hoping that the core and levels of .86 download don't freeze my computer.......this happened last night.....don't ask me why or how, after it never happened before.....ill remember to do that error report as well thanks for el tip berlancic.

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

Jump on xfire randy and i may have a fix.

If it keeps telling you to run your pr.exe go to your location of your pr install. for me it is
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr

Once there run the game directly from the pr.exe located there. I seemed to have the same problem as you guys.

Hope it helps

Re: PR 0.86 download problems

I'll hop on xfire or try that. Let me see if I can install .86 first. Thanks for the tip though
