Funny you don't mention APCs or Logistic trucks. Funny no one here mentions APCs or Logi trucks nor hear people complaining about them when there are other 'better' assets.
The thing is, those vehicles require you to coordinate with your team and other squads and stay near them and back them up while other 'selfish' assets, such as Tanks, Jets, Helos, Spandrels.. all allow you to do your own thing but you're still 'helping out the team.' You guys sit here and complain about not getting in these assets so you can go off and do your own thing, but not once have any of the most vocal complainers made a Logistic squad or an APC squad that actually stuck with a squad. You know, I've played Fools Road almost every time I've logged on recently and I NEVER see an APC squad that helps out their team on either side... but I always see the Tanks! or Spandrels! squad. Stop playing for yourself and play for the team and maybe I'd hold these complaints with more than a grain of salt.
As for Squad Names.. yea I always believed in if you made the name of the squad you get the asset ever since vanilla days on TG even though the rules have changed since then, and yes I'm upset if some random squad takes an asset that my squad was using without asking or caring about the rest of the team, but I can always find out what my team really needs and play that way instead.. and if I don't want to.. the ESC key is right there. Maybe I'm just grateful that I've learned to love the infantry.

If there is no CO about expect to see me at main, lurking near the runway or helipad waiting to pounce. I've read up on the rules and am fully aware that I can in fact take any asset I please if there's no CO. I think after about 30 or 40 rounds of Kashan I should be half decent in the jets, cobras, bi-planes and whatever else I can get my hands on. Also by not thinking about the team, or anybody but myself for that matter I should achieve a new level of focus that will lead me to become the next Red Baron in no time. Once I have acheived skyward leetness I will then be in a position to try and prevent anyone taking any of the assets I want to use by requesting rules changes from the admins.
Sorry I had a funny turn there, must be some bad booze I drank.
Oh, and I just rated the thread 1 star because I am bad with computers and couldn't find the 'no star' button, so put that in your cockpit and smoke it.

You can report him for not making commanding a priority but if he is marking targets, helping with communication but not CAS specifically then he is still doing his job. Since the leaving the chair would be the response I would expect if you said he just got in the chair to assign an asset I'm certain I could guess how you worded it.
+rep for Boogy's first sentence, all of these fights are about a few specific assets.

Someone +rep Boogy for me
Luckily I learned to love the infantry too. Qwai is on, guess I'll go see what my ground pounding SL needs.
As for trying being infantry for a month? Erm. I have a bit of a fit if I'm in an apc being driven to the front with my infantry squad. I guess I'll keep on being the guy that either SL's a squad of infantry or be in one, since like Wickens I lost the plot.

Purely out of curiosity, what constitutes a "fair time"?
I've gunned twice in an apache since I've played at TG: once for 5 minutes before the round ended and I didn't get to shoot anything and the other time was cut short as both the pilot and myself CTD'd while making an attack run. I've never flown a jet. I flew a trans chopper once out of pure desperation.
Would I like to fly more? Yeah. I can't though, because the same people always grab those assets first due to fast load times. This probably describes the situation with almost every person who feels no pity for those who don't get their toys for a round or two while they're being "wasted" by those far less "competent" than the usual suspects.

Re: Asset Stealling.... hm....
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.
With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.
The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind
When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.
The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the words turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Re: Asset Stealling.... hm....
Japanese submarine slammed two torpedoes into our side, chief. It was comin' back, from the island of Tinian Delady, just delivered the bomb. The Hiroshima bomb. Eleven hundred men went into the water. Vessel went down in twelve minutes.
Didn't see the first shark for about a half an hour. Tiger. Thirteen footer. You know, you know that when you're in the water, chief? You tell by lookin' from the dorsal to the tail. Well, we didn't know. `Cause our bomb mission had been so secret, no distress signal had been sent. Huh huh. They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, chief. The sharks come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. You know it's... kinda like `ol squares in battle like a, you see on a calendar, like the battle of Waterloo. And the idea was, the shark would go for nearest man and then he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin' and sometimes the shark would go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that shark, he looks right into you. Right into your eyes. You know the thing about a shark, he's got...lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin' and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin' they all come in and rip you to pieces.
Y'know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don't know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don't know how many men, they averaged six an hour.
On Thursday mornin' chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player, bosons mate. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up. Bobbed up and down in the water, just like a kinda top. Up ended. Well... he'd been bitten in half below the waist.
Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us, he swung in low and he saw us. He'd a young pilot, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper, anyway he saw us and come in low. And three hours later a big fat PBY comes down and start to pick us up. You know that was the time I was most frightened? Waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a lifejacket again. So, eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the 29, 1945. Anyway, we delivered the bomb.

If i remember correctly quinling has plenty of APC's and Tanks but theres only 2 Land rovers which seat 3 people each, So for one person to screw up a whole squads plan is just in my opinion selfish.
I think that CAS should be called in by INF not a spotter. While having a spotter in the squad might work for ranking up kills, Its never there when the inf really need it. CAS should always be on standby not flying laps around the map.
(However this is going off topic, if things havent already)

Re: Asset Stealling.... hm....
Well after reading most of the posts here there are alot of things being said over and over. For the very first point I think people should respect the named squads but it SHOULDN'T be a rule. If I was planning on using an asset during a ound and someone makes a squad I will join it or do something else. If I have an asset squad and someone takes it I will try to get them to leave it but in the end I can only hope they will respect the squad name(which has happened before and I respect those people who give it up).
Secondly to those that say the people whining in this thread are the ones who use the assets. That is true because, I don't know about others but its annoying when I planned on doing something(jets, armour, helos, apcs, ect.) and I join the squad, go help the team until it spawns(if it is delayed), come back and there someone has been at main for 17 minutes.
Last thing is more personal. I like to use assets and I like to do infantry too. So my question is how much using assets is too much and how much should I do infantry before I use an asset? I try to balance it out but I'm never really sure what the other players think. So honestly when you see me ingame in an asset do you think, "oh there goes chris again always playing with the assets."

Re: Asset Stealling.... hm....
I don't fly... but I do lead CAS squads sometimes. This thread has kind of migrated towards the asset whore conversation, but I did want to say nothing is more frustrating than having a ready and able CAS squad standing by waiting on "their" assets only to have a guy in a 6 man inf squad take off in the fighter, leaving the frog/a10 sitting on the ground with no wingman and no easy comms with the fighter... and this is regardless of how good the pilot is.
Even if you manage to resolve this situation... AND the guy brings back the asset safely... you've lost precious time with your air support. (not saying that getting your jets off the ground as soon as they spawn is necessarily the best option, but it's time where the spotter/SL has to try and salvage what became operation charlie foxtrot instead of getting good position and/or calling in those critical targets that are chewing up ground assets)
While I'm not disagreeing with the first come first serve policy, how awesome would flight certification and registered CAS leaders be? It's really a shame (but only logical i guess) that the most powerful assets we as a team can field are also the most coveted and therefor subject to misuse much more often than the more practical ones.
Personally I've given up on being able to count on CAS as an inf squad leader. I think we can still salvage the IFVs though!

From what I could tell (I wasn't squad leader, and he told me what came from CO), he was very much just sitting in the seat for the most part. I had to leave partway through the round, so I only got to see the one of the jets flown out of bounds and the other shot down somewhere, and the third member of the squad off in some vehicle (not even as squad leader, nor with a kit for lazing).
While I can't purely account for whether the CO was helping other squads directly, but I cannot recall him placing contact markers, didn't seem to coordinate any CAS, Transport, or Supplies, and I would venture to guess that he didn't coordinate any tactics to help the team.
It's been a while since that round and for the most part, it was just one of those moments where you just think 'well there goes the game'. I wasn't frustrated, just disappointed that it happened since no one was going to benefit from the flyboys.

A 'fair time' is about a month. If for a month or more I haven't flown, and I just want to enjoy myself after taking a beating on infantry, or whatever, I usually just make a CAS squad and fly. Otherwise, if no one is flying CAS/Transport or we need others to help, I generally join up and take part to make sure that proper CAS/Transport is being given. I've given up my spot in a CAS squad before, and I'd do it again and again if I were asked. As long as the team has some actual support.
Little known fact: My favorite thing to do in all of PR is lead an infantry squad as the US on Qwai.
