Re: Request: Respect for Named Squads
When a squad has its act together, its really nice to have 6 guys with a chopper... 4 on the ground and then crazy good close air support.
Doesn't happen often, but when it does its like having insta'arty. |

Re: Request: Respect for Named Squads
I occasionally will join a helo or air squad so that I can be a sniper. In a squad such as this, I dont have to worry about not following orders to go take a flag.
I always ask permission from the SL to do this. If it is a problem, I just create a sniper squad. In a Sniper sqaud, I do get a few who cant read and need to be told to snipe or move on. Most times though, I dont have to worry about it.

Re: Request: Respect for Named Squads
That's why I think we should have team swapping after each map: cleans up squads, and new ones are formed depending on the need of the map. There is no need to have an AIR squad if your playing Ejod. And there's no need to have ARMOR squad if you're playing Inishail, and so on.

Re: Request: Respect for Named Squads
Kind of on a side note that Switch got me thinking about:
One of the reasons why I advocate the organization of squads around certain assets like tanks, jets, and choppers, is that it brings with it a certain level of realistic play. For the same reasons grunts and SLs can't directly call an arty strike. The CO controls that asset and the SL requests it and they work as a team to use it where it is needed. Much the same way with jets for example, SLs or anyone should call targets or the SL can ask the CO for suppression/ air strikes and the jet squad leader or the CO can designate it as a target and allocate his resources of jets where needed. This is much more realistic and teamwork oriented. On the other hand, if infantry squads start taking assets like a cobra for it's own personal close air support, it might be great for that squad but it's not very realistic nor on the big picture, teamwork oriented. And if one ground pound squad has a cobra and it's needed elsewhere as deemed by a chopper squad leader or the CO (either of which is paying attention to the map and movements as a whole), it's going to be that much more problematic; either for the whole team that could use it elsewhere for more good for the entire team/strategic direction, or if the cobra does break from it's infantry counterparts and goes off to help, the 4 guys on the ground are now down 2 guys and become less effective on the ground. Furthermore on maps like al basrah, if the 2 cobras are in the same squad (or even add in the blackhawks), they can work more effective together in communicating hot spots, AA conditions, and targets, and all of which can be coordinated by the CO if present, or the chopper SL. Same thing with tanks, which should usually roll together, and even with the re-supply jeep. I do realize that sometimes infantry squads can have da-shizzle pilots/drivers in their infantry squads, and that particular squad can kick some serious ass say with a personal cobra, but I don't think we should be misled by "best squad" or high scores in this game (IMO they should be taken out). There is no best squad, only best team. And I consider glory whoring squads to be just as bad as lonewolf 1337 squad members, especially when a CO is present. That's why I don't advocate tanks/jets/choppers being used by essentially/majoritively infantry squads as an infantry squad asset. It turns those squads into ME-squads and lacks realism of using teamwork to call in for help as well as locks assets that may be more effective elsewhere or needs to be able to switch off on who they are helping according to a bigger picture than what the infantry SL has or should be working on. I dunno, just a perspective shift.
