Re: When I punish
I would hope that most players have the decency to say "sorry" for a teamkill...having just caused someone to wait possibly 30 seconds to respawn again, it is the right thing to do. Players will usually remember a player that forgives for a TK as a "mature" player, just as much as remembering one that punishes after you say sorry as a "jerk".
I usually wait for a "sorry" and if they don't, I give them a page down so that they have a second chance to see the "you have been punished for a teamkill" message. After all, points don't really matter...it's the time you lose dying that is of value. For the players that get mad when they see the "you have been punished" screen even after they apologize...well, to me it's just a game...maybe it's something more to you guys. |

Re: When I punish
To the OP - the guy who tk'd you thought you were that enemy you had just killed.
In his rush to kill, you became the victim I recommend making the mini map 100% see through and putting it on max zoom. See through because its clearer and more usable with your peripheral vision. Max zoom because up close quickfire kills are the most common way to teamkill like we see in the first post - running round a corner. I think its fair to punish if you think the teamkiller has not realised their mistake. Its a fair reminder/feedback for them on their mistake. Teamkill shows in the top left along with lots of other spam whereas punish clearly shows lower down where no other text appears in PR. The easiest way to get unfair punishes is to lay down mines. I got 6 kills in a few mins the other day on sunset city including a tank and also 1 punish for my stupidity ![]() People dont get to know why they just died so whatever I guess ![]() I often dont say sorry because Ive died many times while typing sorry so sorry to anyone I teamkill, past and future. I think the best server setting is auto-punish personally |

Re: When I punish
I just take issue with people that can't/don't use their mini map, and can't/don't ID targets. Being aware of your surroundings (ie your mini map) and identifying your targets are the 2 key elements to preventing a teamkill. If you do one or the other it should prevent a teamkill 90% of the time. I only forgive if it is my fault; if I make the mistake of firing near a team-mate, to kill an enemy beyond him and he turns and fires at me, I fully expect to get team-killed, If I run in front of friendly fire and take one in the earhole...totally my fault. I just have 0 tolerance for not paying attention, and I don't feel somebody should be rewarded, or not punished rather, for not paying attention. Sometimes I'll wait a few seconds for an apology of sorts, but often times I'm too upset to care. When I tk, I fully expect to get punished because it means that I wasn't paying attention.

Re: When I punish
Well, something happened to me last night that made my blood boil. I was playing in the map I believe called Operation Phoenix and my team was of course at the onset of the game covering the USMC UCB. I usually have a nade launcher and as enemy are working theirselves forward I dump a couple here and there. That was exactly what I was doing and guess what, I get not 1 but 2 TK's. As if that wasn't bad enough they end up instantly punishing me causing my team work score to drop instantly to -18. They didn't even wait for an apology or anything, I think their fingers were already laying on the button in wait to punish. Now I could go one farther with these 2 people and give names but won't, I will just say, "WHY THE HECK WERE YOU IN THE ENEMY UCB???" What I should have done was reported them for base raping an UCB but I figured a reply in here might scare them to not do this anymore with the base raping, not the punishing(although that was a little ridiculous, just remember the same can be done to you for accidental TK's). If that wasn't base raping I do not know what you would call it, I was at least waiting to see movement at one of the little buildings like most of the people that play that map, not going right in to them. No one from the MEC team should have been in the USMC UCB as to give the USMC a fighting chance, the US side struggles like hell on that map without people raping the UCB.

Gerard does bring up a good point. We do have groups, such as the 6th, who often take primary roles in destroying enemy assets like artillery, and in .6, the command trailer. When these groups go into an enemy ucb/starting base, the standing orders are that you DO NOT ENGAGE unless you are fired upon first. It doesnt matter if you see the commander laying next to a building primed for a good knifing. You dont do it. Now, if he happens to be laying next to the artillery when it goes kablooey, it sucks for him and gets chalked up to collateral damage, but nobody's going to cry spawncamping about it. That being said, use your minimap. If you're going to be firing into an area thick with hostiles, at least make a conscious effort not to tag the possible few teammates that are in the immediate firing area. A big part of tactical play is situational awareness, and you should ALWAYS be aware of where friendly forces are in your immediate area, or down your fireline.

Re: When I punish
Do you like getting punished for a silly, unintentional TK you just commited? No?
Then why would you punish anybody yourself? Usually TKs are unintentional on TG, thats why I never punish. Instead of waiting for a "sorry" from the TKer advise your squad about the trigger happy friendly forces, ask for a new kit assignment, bring out the map, take a guess where the enemy might be coming from next... Thats a better way of spending your TK timeout than deciding on the "punishment".

Re: When I punish
If I ever am in a TG squad, and I punish, I usually get kicked from the squad. Even if it really was a severe lack of judgement on thier part.
Sometimes, when I FORGIVE I still get kicked. And have to rejoin... Also, I do rarely punish...But sometimes, you cant tell who did cause the server text goes too fast.

At least I a long with three other players were off to the east not getting direct shots on the UCB. The four of us were on the little buildings laying in wait for enemy to come around the rock face and as I said If I see enemy running around or from the first building would launch a grenade in to try to kill them. At least the enemy does have a fighting chance the way I play that map!!! The other thing is, this map starts out with only the USMC having ONE flag and it is the UCB and the PLA can spawn right in front of almost, at least within seeing distance. Maybe it should have a specified radius around the UCB flag to keep the PLA from entering into the UCB if it could be done? That particular map is poorly laid out in how the 2 sides start out and how close the starting spawns are, the biggest draw back of that map. There is a discussion in the forums about the Inshail Forest and Operation Phoenix Maps right now, so apparently I am not the only one that see the problem with this map either. I understand also about not going into the UCB but when you are spawning right in front of it and the rest of the whole team is firing into the UCB you tend to follow that example and shoot into the UCB. Tonight if I get in to play and this map is still in rotation I will start reminding a few people to stop firing in that direction(sarcastically said and would not do) just to let everyone know how many are actually doing it. I am not the only one, I just brought it to attention that it is NO reason for any PLA to need to actually be in the UCB on this map and the fact they punished so damn quickly whne they got TK'ed when they were that close to it.

Re: When I punish
I agree. If I teamkill, I expect to be punished. And so what? I dont care how many extra seconds I have to wait. Its just a game. I dont know how long the punish is, but I really dont care. I dont really watch the time tick down anyway. I hit capslock, and watch troop movements. It's just a game. 45 seconds compared to 30 seconds is not a lifetime.
