The use of Racial names!

I have noticed more and more that people...including some TG members using racial slander when refering to the different BF2 factions. There were countless times in where I hear the words "chink", "gook", "chinamen", and "slant eyes" when they are refering to the chinese. Me being half-korean, this is EXTREMELY racist and a complete disregard to the SOP's.

It isn't only refering to the Chinese faction either. The MEC side gets it also.

We need to start governing ourselves when we hear such things.

If you are in a sqaud and you hear...

"I've got four gooks running to the east"

Your first response should be...

"those names are appropriate on this server, please dont use them again."

Last night I was SL'ing and one of my Sq. members said that he was with another TG sqaud earilier that week, and they didnt say anything. What pissed me off the most was the name of the SL was a prominent TG player. I am not gonna say any names, so don't worry. Hearing this made me mad and I almost quit TG. I could'nt believe it. But I slept it off and cooled down.

Once again guys, please lets start governing ourselves.

Re: The use of Racial names!

Thanks for the reminder Dirt. Agree 100%. There is no place for racism here. To those who think they are just harmless names and that's not how you really feel...well...take a step back and look objectively at your feelings and actions. Who knew Dirt was Asian?. I didn't. And that's a good example of why we need to be vigilant in our approach.

Re: The use of Racial names!

Agreed! Also, i had an issue with a guy in a squad i was in at the weekend, it was his name. I have seen it brought up in the forums before, but i cant remember where. Any female on TG would be OUTRAGED if she saw the name, but as i dont know the protocol for dealing with this type of thing, i could say nothing to him. It even made me uncomfortable. You all know who i am talking about, Brutal.... .... Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I had a similar situation recently. Guy had an offensive name that was a pornography fetish. I noticed it and asked an ADMIN on TS to remove him from the server. Done and done. Our admins will remove them quickly if their name is not up to community standards.

That's the one I'd question too...but, I'm not Asian so of course it wouldn't offend me...If someone somewhere finds it offensive would it just be easier to say enemy soldier??

Use the ingame Reporting: functionality

Just type:

Reporting: OffensivePlayernameHere for using a racist playername

We will pick up those reports when we go through the logs and decide on an administrative action.

Re: The use of Racial names!

Thanks for bringing this up Dirt. I would recommend saying "That's not appropriate" to the player. If it happens again report them to an Admin.

The TG community is built around maturity and there is no room whatsoever for this type of behavior.

Re: The use of Racial names!

Though I do agree that, in real life, racial slurs etc. are derogatory and not acceptable this is after all still a game and to take it personal (to a point) is a little overkill. I will "curb my enthusiasm" in game as I am one to say "gooks in the wire" (straight out of a movie but I can't remember what movie) to my squad though it does not matter which team I am on to say it. Using it as a reference to enemy in general. Racial or sexist names of players, on the other hand, is unnaceptable to me also.

PC is PC. I think a line could be drawn by almost anyone. IE (and it is only an example) Santa - well, if we have any Jewish players here (which I am sure there are) they could take offence to that name.

There is HUGE difference between Santa and "gooks"

Re: The use of Racial names!

Though I do understand the difference you speak of the entire insurgent team runs around hollering allah ackbar. Many a times the opposing teams will as something along the lines of where are the stupid americans and why don't they come out and fight.

I used santa as an example for how far the PC could be taken. Still remembering it is a game and everyone takes on their own character in game. No one is directing allah ackbar at people of middleaster decent nor is anyone directing your stated problem words at you. The line can be drawn and, though it hasn't quite yet, I will adhere to it as of right now. But you must remember that it is not just the words you want included in the "no say zone" it will have to apply to all people who play 100% of the time.

agreed but chinamen, ok chinese would be better but come on you can forgive someone for saying chinamen in its place in the heat of the moment... gooks slant eys ant the like i can understand and i would not put up with that at all. but chinamen is not really an insult when you think that the chinese are the enemy on that game... if someone calls you personally a chinamen thats offensive because you are party korean, and i can understand that, but when referring to an ingame character that happens to be "made" as chinese... i dont follow...

Re: The use of Racial names!

I think it's fairly offensive even if you aren't a member of the appropriat ethnic group. There is PC and then there is simple insensetivity, I don't believe this is a case of it being too PC, I think it's fairly obvious that you shouldn't use racial slurs on principle in this community.

It's a game but the people you play it with are real.

I don't think any harm is meant, but a little thought wouldn't go amiss.

Re: The use of Racial names!

Can "I shot the bastard" be included in this if there is a child of an unwed mother playing? There is no limit to where this could go.

As I have said - I am now cleanin my act 100% of the time but the controls could be bigger than the game.
