We can agree to disagree, I'm fine with that, opinions are meant to vary.

Re: Flying Helos

A lot of people need to visit the firing range,

A flight training thing would be a lot of fun

Re: Flying Helos

I personally have a lot of experience flying the helo since that's all i pretty much did during my CAL days in bf2. The physics in PR make it much more challenging but i think it's good since it separates the men from the boys especially in helo v helo situations. The fact that the hydra missiles fire MUCH faster makes up for a decreased response time in flight dynamics as well when it comes to combat.

Its funny that no one has mentioned the TV missile in this thread, i mean why did they make it so difficult to use now? With practice its OK but the response to the mouse click is way down compared to vanilla. Although if it was easier to use and still had the same range it would be too dominant imo.

Re: Flying Helos

I dont like how the tv missile is used as an air to air missile in bf2 so if its less responsive, good

Re: Flying Helos

i agree tigger, i think now the dog fights are more pilot vs pilot than just uber tv gunner skills and thats how it should be. Although the chain gun can decimate a chopper pretty quick in the right hands

Re: Flying Helos

I for one, would really like to see more regulation on who hops in ANY aircraft. Nothing irks me more than when I'm in my own squad (aptly named A10), waiting for the A10 to spawn after some tard drove a humvee past me, hops into MY pleasuretoy and proceeds to fly it off and into the dirt within 15 seconds of takeoff. So I'll be there waiting to spawn and ANOTHER nooblet in someones ARMOR squad drives up in another useless humvee and while I'm typing politely for him to go find another vehicle, the A10 spawns again and the nooblet does the EXACT same thing again.

I'd think there is a big magnet in the dirt somewhere on Al Basrah that sucks nooblets and their aircraft into buildings and trees so that I can't have the jet I anxiously wait for.

Why don't people respect others waiting for aircraft? Especially when they are already on the pad? And in a designated Aircraft squad?

Should it be a rule that you must be in a named and designated squad for the purpose you are trying to fulfill during that map? Should it be a warnable/kickable offense to not adhere to that rule? Personally, I'd be all for that. Anyone that has commanded for me while I'm in any of my aircraft would be sure to agree.

And where has switch been? Haven't seen him in over a week. That's not very much like him at all. Don't tell me he got a life. Say it ain't so!

Re: Flying Helos

While probibly impossible, or extreemly time consuming to code, a built in training course for things like planes, choppers and armor could solve alot of problems with nub pilots. If someone wants to use any of the above weapons/vehicles they must take an extensive training course or multiple courses and then they could be given a rank. If someone with a higher rank wants to use a vehicle they can kick out whoever is in the driver/pilots seat while its still warming up.

Maybe a good idea for BF3...

Sort of like America's Army. Before playing online, you must complete a bunch of tests.

Re: Flying Helos

Oh man if they combined some of the AMerica's Army stuff with PR it would be amazing!
ALthough not waiting 20 mins for the round to end

One i know is bothersome is the fact that it now depends on how fast your computer is whether u are in those exclusive "helo, cobra, a-10, airsupport, etc" squads
because if you load in fast enough, u can quickly make that custom squad then LOCK it and Bam, you've assured yourself a spot in the helo. and if by chance someone else gets in, you somehow have the authority to berate them and even report them....not cool

Re: Flying Helos

For some of the new helo pilots reading this thread, I would highly suggest you turn your helicopter settings down to 1 and gradually increase them as you become used to each helo's "tempermant".

I played with a newbie last night who changed from 4 to 1, and he looked like a pro shortly after.

You might also load up any of the maps that have an aircraft carrier, (or join an empty one), and fly a chopper to the edge of the carrier and practice firing off the side. You will get unlimited ammo and if you make a squad you can put attack orders out at different ranges and practice hitting targets that don't shoot back.

Re: Flying Helos

Thats something that needs to change imo, you cant really practise on an empty server I think.
It wont let you form a squad or request a kit with only one person

Re: Flying Helos

You don't need a kit to fly if the screen states that you need more people to start the game.

In order to create an empty server in which you can request kits like there's no tomorrow, edit your mods/pr/python/game/realityconfig.py file; on lines 223 and 231 you'll find the most useful information. Editing the file is intuitive; save and load PR.

Re: Flying Helos

Or once you make your own local server, open up the console with the console key. "~"

Then type the following:

Code:
sv.numPlayersNeededToStart 1

Right, but at that point you need to create a squad and request kits and such. I guess if you're piloting, you're all set, because you only need one person in a squad to get it, but if you want to try the other kits, edit that file with my recommendations.

Re: Flying Helos

Is there anything you can do to make the choppers spawn faster?
