Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

I remember that from one of the PoE maps. Half the team (me included) didn't realize what the deal was; half again of those guys still didn't make the second attempt!

How would it work in PR, though, if only pilots get 'chutes?

Somehow you spawn with a parachute.

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

The key to the oil rigs idea would be having more than one. That way the defenders would be spread out and need to cover mulitple sides. Once one rig is taken, then move to the next OR the rig is so big that it has multiple levels to defend from including a heli pad. NO Jets. Only boats or airdrop. maybe night? Also the attackers could have 2 or three spawn ships/islands to launch from. I am really into this if I could type as fast as I think.

I like the taiwan battle too...Wake was on of my favs.

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

Americas Army has a user-made turned official map based on this...

I havent played AA since Nov, but I hear this map is very good. If you wanna research that, you can. It seems its a creative and well done approach to this kinda oil rig idea.

Ive played just such a map in a bf2 clan match. It played ok as a fun map, lots of helis.
If it was boats only then you have a problem with people dying on ladders which generally sucks because you cant do anything about it.

I'd like to see just one oil rig, a half sunken wreck of a boat prehaps a ship wrecked oil tanker. That could make a great deck fight, long narrow and those boats can be so large that 2 flags could be feasible either end, storage hold & engine room

Also there should be a coast line flag, maybe a lighthouse but probably not actually as its too awkward, a beach house/coast guard station would be better.

Definetly an insurgent vs map. Just light boats, no apc, no tank, no planes, no carrier just a destroyer and whatever heli might be launched from something that size. Coastguard could have transport heli too. oilrigs and oil tanker would spawn no heli, maybe a bicycle or motorcycle for the tanker. and a light boat for either

Maybe not invade Taiwan but one of the island off the coast of Taiwan could be a Chinese stronghold (Pre Invasion depot) and invade that. A couple beach invasions and some chinese bunkers. If you can give the us arty from a ship to help support the landing.

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

If you are still interested in doing a paradrop invasion kind of map, consider a static C-130 high up in the clouds as a spawn point. Nobody will be able to see the ground and with the correct ambiance from the engines would give the illusion that you are moving. It would act as a fixed spawn point that people would just walk off of and parachute to the ground. Just a way to bypass the limitation of walking on moving vehicles.

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

Look, um, I know that most TG'rs don't care for airplanes, but I would like to put this out there.

A dogfight map, with MEC/China Versus USMC. But here's the kicker, you CQB junkies get your own little/medium city with some vehicles and such. Some of you say Bashra, but this is not Bashra for either side. I mean like 2 seperate UCB mains for each side. One that is an Airport and one that is HQ for the city.
Airport for the jets, with control tower and such.
City, with places to...hide...and things... I don't know how you CQB junkies think, so yea. Both "Sides" (Dogfight and CQB get 1 or 2 different flags, so that CQB'rs don't mix with air junkies, and vice-versa)

Any thoughts?

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

Someone had suggested an urban map to me, similar to KUTU ARMS MARKET (from a Novalogic game called Joint Operations). I named mine "Kuru Arms Market" to avoid a complete copyright ripoff.

I am currently working on it, although I have read some great ideas in this thread (too many to work on at once!)

Kuru should play out like this:
Insurgent vs. UN forcest (Brittish or American).
long city traversing North-South composed of 1 block of buildings on either side of the road (3-4 buildings deep)...roughly 7 blocks total. Jungle surrounding the city, with hills along the east edge and a river on the west. Out of bounds will force most of the action within the city perimeter, although there is limited room for maneuvering along the edges. The main road leading through town will encounter one large bottleneck in the center of town, forcing the road to make three 90-degree turns (left/right/left) as it passes around a large courtyard/market. This location will hopefully contain larger buildings ideal for ambush, along with a bunker for insurgents to find RPG's and sniper rifles.

Both main bases will be isolated from the city by the river and a large bridge. I hope to limit access to each main base to make each well protected and difficult to breach. UN forces will start south, and begin with a small light-armor convoy (apc x2, humvee, TOW humvee). Insurgents will have technicals and several apc's along with one IED vehicle. I am placing plenty of road barricades along the way, however, to make progress of vehicles slow and dangerous.
I don't know if I can figure out how to lop-side the teams, but I would like to have insurgents have 35 players, UN 29 players to account for the Civilians that will be running around throwing rocks.
I am hoping it will have the feel of a "Karkand" map, with infantry heavy urban conflict, and a much smaller presence than most of the .607 maps.

-Mapping is quits slow at the moment because of my novice, and I would gladly take assistance from anyone that is good with the mapmaker to make this map a reality sooner.

Red I like your idea, combine the engine sound with the wind rushing noise when you drive fast and the illusion is complete!

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

They guys/gals over at BF2 Mercenaries { http://tinyurl.com/2v6e7e } have some neat maps that I think would be great for PR. or even more so for regular BF2. Verson 7 of this mod was the best. But they went and ruined the weapons and stuff in the later versions, it's up to v.10 now. They made sure to unbalance the power in favor of the good guys. plus the AI now has aimbot like one shot kills, even from the far side of any map.

Jeepo, I would not want a totaly dark map like they had in BFSP. that green night vision stunk. A lot of folks stopped playing it I belive because of that. Tho that sub hanger map would be more fun in daylight and in PR. POE2 has a couple maps set at dusk/dawn with the long shadows. that would be cool. light enough to see but with shadows to hide in, And of course a thunderstorm The mod first intervention had some nice maps, along with OPK {operation peacekeeper} that would be neat in PR.
More urban type close combat maps would be great, base in the USA or the UK. like in the USA having los angles, CA under attack or Londen, or up in vancover BC. Canada.

Re: looking for a good new PRM map idea...

For the Taiwan idea, I don't think you should ever make a map where the air superiority has been pre-determined. Isn't the whole point of Battlefield to gain strategical advantage? Not be given it.
