Re: Armed Assault comparison
Got to play for 20 minutes or so, spent most of that time waiting at the main base. (my fault) I finally got transport and got to JohnCar squad . He was just elling me how to join the squad when the those DAMN (lovable) kids began to wake from their slumbers for water, nitemares or just to annoy me. Figures.
My first impession is nausea,as in thats what I feel when I play. Reminds me of the old DOOM games. I put the graphics up to max and it got a little better. I'll have to see how it goes. Speaking of graphics. I was running at 1280x1024 with distance set to 3/4 the slider and did not seem to have any issues. I never saw any combat though, so we will have to see what happens when there is alot going on. My system is a dual core 3.2, 3 GB RAM and a ATI x850 platinum edition. Seeing how there appears to be a need for TG-ers to play the new beta due to Pubbieliciousness, I'll get back to PR tonight.

Re: Armed Assault comparison
I'm still in a love / hate relationship with this thing.
People mention game play , performance etc. but I'm finding that IMO the biggest fault I've come across so far is something as mundane as being able to reconfigure the controls easily. Have yet to succeed.

Re: Armed Assault comparison
You're talking crazy talk! You probably just need a chance to get on the coop server with a good gang. In fact, the coop event for the week is in 2 1/2 hours, I bet there'd be room for you if you popped into TS for rollcall(which takes place a half hour before the event, which goes down at 1300 EST ) .

Re: Armed Assault comparison
Computer AI cant compare to human potential for craftyiness and skill. In theory I think PR could do co-op as well, bf2 has this but its rarely seen.
A coop air practise map/server sounds good |

Re: Armed Assault comparison
Last time I played evolution on TG, I had an 8 man squad observing the first town, we had been observing the enemy patrol routes for the last 5 minutes, and had made a plan of action, breaking the squad down into 2 'fire team' and also fireteam partners.
Then a humvee drove in behind us, one of our fireteams observing... 3 guys got out, ran around and then proceeded to shoot me and the two people near me. Of course they apologized, but was not too impressed... Problems with arma I see are: -No (working) ingame voip. This is killing any kind of organised teamwork. yes, you can use teamspeak, but the fact that in game bf2 voip works so well, is already managed well so that you cant spam the entire room, and the fact that the people using bf2 voip are there for one thing, communicating about in game events, and not going off topic constantly about crap that no one wants to hear about. - No good PvP missions. I dont consider berserk, an even more arcade-like game mode than vbf2 to be a very good mission If evolution was only 2 sides fighting each other, it would be a whole helluva lot more interesting. Can only clear the island so many times in evolution before the ever-so intelligent AI just dont cut it anymore.- Desync issues. Yea, your driving down the road, and then suddenly your driving over the side of a cliff, only you didnt really drive over the side of the cliff, just your client went out of sync. This happens all too often and is really an immersion killer. Especially bad in helicopters and when trying to engage things from a vehicle. - player population. its really a sad sign when a mod on an engine that does not support mods well at all (BF2) still manages to get alot more players online every night than a full retail game (arma). Its true, PR has more players every night than arma could ever hope for. And its not like PR even has alot of players to begin with. This makes me believe arma is more catering to singleplayer crowd than multiplayer, which does not bode well for future missions. Hopefully the guys who made CTI will be making a great new mission for arma, and hopefully the ACE mod kicks some serious butt. Now dont get me wrong I love OFP and I love arma, but as far as online play goes, Ive had alot better experiences in PR than I have in arma. There is the rare time that Arma REALLY outshines PR in terms of realism and gameplay, but most of the time my experience in arma ends up in frustration due to the games AI or the game crashing.
