Re: Deployable Mortars
I love indirect fire as much as the next guy...but I just think mortars will end up being the new sniper.

Re: Deployable Mortars
lol mortars r different from snipers in what i think. You see, a sniper is a long range accurate weapon. While a mortar is more like a medium-long range, you'll always have to move the mortar closer if u want to hit far. Plus a mortar is far from accurate.

Re: Deployable Mortars
I meant my comment in the way that most newbies flock to the sniper rifle now for it's seemingly quick, easy kills. A fad weapon, in other words.

Re: Deployable Mortars
Mortars were meant for taking out groups (Normally large infantry battalions) of advancing infantry mainly and were by no means meant to be used to get headshots on people.

Re: Deployable Mortars
Head shots and grenades blasts < 5m away have the same lethality. I'm speaking to the usual "All the marksman kits are taken", "All the sniper kits are taken" spam that usually occurs throughout your average game.

Re: Deployable Mortars
Arty sounds like a c4 explosion (or was it a slam?) It doesn't sound cool to me -_-

Re: Deployable Mortars
I dunno what it sounds like I've never seen a commander use artillery in 0.6 yet.
The C4 sounds a bit lame occasionally, it's really quiet and sometimes silent if you're more than 20m away, so te only sound you hear is the sound of the vehicle/bunker/command post/whatever exploding.
Mortars should sound good, otherwise it would be a dissapointment not to hear the screaming sound as it comes down on top of you.|TG-Irr| westyfield

Re: Deployable Mortars
That's because squadleader must first ask for one. Sadly not many people have read the manual so they dont know about that. It has been said pretty clearly in the PR manual and has been there for many releases, but people dont read the manual.
Mostly that's the reason I dont go as commander, I have to spam multiple times that arty is ready on Squadleards command and stuff like that.|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!

Re: Deployable Mortars
Theres only a couple of maps that still have it but its there still which is good as an option.
I used to hate the sound of artillery (high pitched, argh) especially in bf2 where it gets spammed every minute or so
And the commander reading out enemy spotted 50 times continually, that bugged to hell.
PR rocks for sounds generally though I agree the c4 is sometimes totally silent for some reason. I have read discussions of it being made into a deafening roar

Re: Deployable Mortars
I think it would be great.
Mortars are a powerful tool when combined. In urban areas several fire teams can plan ahead of time their target, then fire one or two rounds from different locations at the exact same time and move out before being counter attacked..
It would take some skill in getting the range right but properly done could be awesome. It makes sense to have this be the militia/insurgent artillery versus the big US gunz..
