Re: News from the PR front.

US army

Do we effectively have the longbow apache then, even though we dont have that radar thing on top, I heard its resources are shared anyway

Oilfields definetly isnt big enough though I like the map in general. You can barely leave your own base before getting called out of bounds when in the heli. The lockon is almost constant throughout the game and finally each heli can kill their oppisite number without having to leave their own ucb

I guess only scout helis are suitable.

With Oman I think its ok but USMC need to get an APC spawn/delivery or a spawn point of some type when they cap the beach bases.

No aas basra then, didnt think so :/

From what I undestand, Apaches are mainly used for sneaking up below the treeline, then quickly popping up, firing a few anti tank missiles and getting out of there. Fly by attacks on PR are pretty useless in them cause of the view restriction.

That is what everyone does though. I you hover for a second ppl are all hey move you'll get shot etc. In my opinion, doing strafing runs all the time feels very boring and unrealistic. It also makes your gunner useless.

Not that I ever actually fly an attack chopper, because you can't get your hands one one without waiting hours. Sometimes I wish they would again just take all air-power out. They are mostly for a-social selfish non-teamwork players anyway. Talking about "bassdrive 101" there if he remembers.

We might see this happen when the soflam works as a laser marker

Re: News from the PR front.

I was reading up on the longbow yesterday and it can fire from behind the hill, it doesnt need direct line of sight and the missile is designed to actually arc over the hill.
You can do this in PR if your gunner is good enough or at least willing to try, it can take some persuading to get them to fire at something unseen or only visible on the minimap.

It'd be great to see laser designation work but just spotting a live target on the minimap is roughly equalivant.
Its just as well most rush in because the whole system is stupidly powerfull when used properly, the range is 1000m afaik and everything is a 1 hit kill

Re: News from the PR front.

i have used the 'fire over the hill' tactic to great success....

attack heli can be very deadly if used with ahigh degree of teamwork...

most of the time they are used to spam rockets and die shortly after though

i find very very few pilots have any degree of patience.

Re: News from the PR front.

do the F15's and SU-37's work in PRM? I would LOVE to see some of the 2-seater fighter/bombers on maps like Gulf of Oman, Kashan, or a new map in the future.

Re: News from the PR front.

no map in PR is big enough for those planes... IMO Kashan is way too small for ANY jets....

Re: News from the PR front.

Yea...but in vanilla we learned to fly them on tiny Oman, so Kashan would be like flying over the atlantic.
It sure would make Kashan 64p go a lot faster too! Can we at least test it? It would be so freaking fun!

Re: News from the PR front.

well that sounds great, those solo tankers wont be able to hide in a secret spot and repair themselves
and this might even cause less people getting out from tanks and getting shot to death since theres no point getting out if you dont have wrench

+1 Most fun I ever had on Kashan was being a Cobra pilot. I flew for a full two hours. Got shot down twice...but we had a good crew working both helis and we were very useful on that map.

While I agree that a lot of pilots are selfish, leaving out the air element would diminish the game's realism and fun. And I say this as a guy that plays infantry 99% of the time. The few times that I actually manage to get into a chopper (past all the smacktards on the tarmac) I have had a blast!

I have never flown an attack heli or jet in PR. Mostly because I can't be bothered to wait and theres always someone who is prepared to tk for it.
But I think on a password night there may be a chance for some good teamwork in a heli, I'd certainly like to try out indirect fire.

Re: News from the PR front.

First place to build up some experience is on single player or a really empty server.

Qwai has 4 helis and if only 20 people are playing you should get a chance to fly or die, nobody could really complain then.

Most important thing as an attack heli gunner is to be responsive and active. If you just sit there in silence then you are totally useless.
Things to do is spot hostiles so they appear on the minimap, tell your pilot & give coords especially if its AA or a tank. Use the TV missile, its like a nuke so use it! Chain gun is least important imo, its got a zoom level on it. Check the map, if the flag is clear of friendlies then go crazy with the gun.

Do all that and you will be an amazing gunner, everyone gets an equal chance at the round start to jump in the heli.
Im not a fan of 'wave spawning' and I dont respect anyone who waits for 20 mins for a heli and thinks that being totally useless to the team for that 20 mins means they have gained any priority over other players to fly.
Use the timer in the top right
