Re: Sigs?
Holy analysis. I spent like two minutes thinking about my sig before I made it (also took like two minutes)
My thought process:
Background color: What would be a good background. Hmm, black is an awesome color. Lets make it black.
Main attraction: I like that image of the middle finger explosion. Lets put that way over to the left. Awesome.
Main attraction 2: Gotta be a gun. What kit do I like? Grenadier. Lets put a M16 w/ M203 in the center. (puts it there) Ooo, thats kinda bad. It blends in with the black. Lets put a border around it (tries a white boarder). Hmm, thats crap, Lets put a guarassion blur on that. That looks nice.
Name: I like dark red, and names look good in the lower left. (tries) that stands out too much. I'll blur that a bit.
Second draft: Eh, the middle finger might be considered offensive. What can I do.. hmm... Oh! Lets cover it up with the 15th logo. Thats what everyone else has in their sig in the wiki page.
Done.

Re: Sigs?
Yes the backround must have lines that flow together toward the focal point. So your sig has a single direction, usually pointing towars the main interest.
Take 3:
Take 4 (Added more Flow):

kind of sorta, it's more about determining the main direction the render is going...if you know what i mean...i'll draw it out.

Re: Sigs?
this is the flow i'm getting from this guy. I would i make my c4d's go in this kind of direction.Your first attempt did this by accident i think, that one c4d made it curl up into the arm, and gave it a cool flow.
I'll do it on the sig i have right now so you see what i'm talkin about more.

Re: Sigs?
I didn't follow the flow on the right side exactly, but you can see that my C4d's are all going towards the flow.
@ your post...look at the critique i gave comparing the two images...i mapped it out with the "flow" line...check it again.

Re: Sigs?
But, how did you figure out how the flow should go, based on the render?
