This is the first part of a small video series showing me and my squad (Sam_Hoy, Meddler and York) disrupting insurgents activities on Al Basrah. We were exclusively attacking insurgent cars (spawncars, c4 cars, technicals), ammo dumps and bridges leading to the Palace.
The idea is to show squad tactics, Project Reality tricks and - of course - action!
All footage was shot in one round tonight on March 27 on the TG PR 0.5 server. For recording I used Battlerecorder footage and Battedirector/Fraps.
The first part features the destruction of one of the three bridges leading to the Palace. I have added subtitles to the video to explain whats going on any given time. Enjoy!
While the main forces are engaging the insurgents at the flags the SpecOps Squad continues to attack the supply lines using intel provided by the Commander.
The plan was to stay mobile, engage only high priority targets (spawn cars) and disengage quickly after completing an objective. The (edited) 2 minutes footage of this video displays about 4 minutes game time. We were able to take out 2 technicals and 3 spawn cars in that timeframe. Intel passed on from the CO and other Squads was paramount to this achievement.
I really think these tactics need to be used more. I have many times made a diffrence on flanks or other areas away from flags, its priceless to stop enemy squads away from the flags to support a squad taking the flags.
This rather long sequence puts focus on one man Squad SpecOps tactics. Interaction with the commander to request targets and supplies is highlighted using the narrative subtitles.
I entered the game mid-round and created a new squad. It took quite some time before I was joined by Sam_Hoy. In the meantime I wandered around on my own.
The "scoreboard" introduced in this video does not include other assets taken out in the same round (see videos 1 and 2 above).
Firefights are kept to a required minimum as they threaten the mission objective.
Please note that driving over enemies is frowned upon. One single time I am driving over a enemy sniper who is engaging our HMMV on the way to an objective. Just take a look and see how miserably that can fail... don't try this at home kids.
This will be the last part of the series featuring footage from one round of Al Basrah leading a 3-4 men SpecOps squad into battle.
This episode features squad movement, covering, securing areas and infantry combat around the Facility. After most of the assets were down and the commander confirmed the area clear of spawn cars we moved in to lend a hand at the final assault on Facility.
The US lost the round by about 180 tickets. It took ages to stop bleed at the village. When I joined mid-round the Village was still under Insurgents control.
Still - I'd like to believe these SpecOps operations made an impact on the overall game. I would like to get some feedback on how and if the Insurgents were hindered in their efforts by the lack of ammo dumps, bridges and spawn cars. Please speak up.
Fraps is a program to record ingame video. The free version lets you record only 6 seconds, so if you are considering using it you'll have to buy a copy.
I just run the demos and record while i pan around with the camera. As there is no way to rewind the action it's a good idea to download the demos after a round, fire up Battledirector and record where you remember the action was.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
