Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

Sorry about ducking out of your squad Crombo. I couldn't turn down a fellow 160th pilot, even if he had to bail 3 minutes later.

I ended up in E-Males squad. Good times.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

I think i saw the fallout of this tactic tonight. At some point on Rolling Thunder my squad kept complaining about the "unlimited grenades".

That wasn't the arty squad. They didn't form up until the following map (sunset).

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

Hey can anyone get their hands on the bfrecorder file from that round in Helmand where we did the c4 at the blackhawk thing? I'd really like to check it out yet the games don't show in my game, never. If someone has it, it is dated April 12, close to 7 pm. Just wan't to see the explosions, since only squirrel got to see them then.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

i think the limiting will be very good. as i find this "ARTY" squad somewhat of an annoyance and unrealistic, more vanilla style. M203's aren't meant to be Mortars. they're meant to be M203's and used to clear a balcony or something of the sort although war is war. as for using them like an arty squad, this is more of a nade fest style as they can be more accurately aimed and fired then any mortor would be. as for AT i've seen video's of it being done to clear out a building in Fallujah. nadespam takes away the realism so i personally would never make one of these "Arty" squads in time PRM will have Mortors and better artillery etc. but M203's really aren't meant to do this.

Not true, in training soldiers they are taught not only how to utilize the 203 from the standard shoulder position but ALSO from a kneeling with the weapon butt on the ground position. 203s have been used in real life as improvised mortars.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

why dedicate a whole squad to clearing out an area when a commander working with his squadleaders can do it with a few clicks?

Not every map has artillery.

This idea might not pan out, but I'd be interested to see it in action with people that want to see it work. Maybe just a squad of three; two assaults and a rifleman. Name the squad MORTAR.

I think something like this is best suited for a map like Inishail. It's relatively small and there is lots of cover. I know if I were defending one of those flags and started receiving indirect fire from the other side of the map it would frustrate me to no end. If I were a typical SL defending a flag, I would send a couple of guys to try and locate the team firing on us, thus weakening the defenses on the flag itself.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

You use a supply crate right Crombo? That seems to be a good option.

I think I was yelling "damn tubers" on mao that day as they wiped my squad several times.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

please no.. as far as I'm concerned the GL is a ristricted kit oversight... having a whole squad stand back and spam would just kill me.... no pun intended.

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

Not to mention, mixing smoke and explosive rounds would really confuse the defenders.

Once an allied squad moved into position to assault, the MORTAR squad could switch to smoke only rounds to minimize friendly casualties...

Re: Artillery Sqd Idea

Such tactics and discussion are typical growing pains of .5. IMO, .5 is the adolescent of PR. Huge growth and development, fun, but confusing and irritating in ways.

I hear tale the mortars will replace the arty, so it is possible that a mortar team may be able to continually shell a CP.

Sound defensive SOP will need to be developed on how to adjust to such circumstances.

I believe we will all learn from this tactic and be better prepared for when the mortars are unleashed in a later release.

IMO, GL are a moderate to long distance ranged weapon, I have no problem with this tactic. Better this way than it being used at short ranges.

Sadly the GL has not gotten much love since BF2 came out in 2005. Even after the devs give it more realistic physics it still creates controversy and is labeled a noob tube.
