Can you say "major hardware upgrade"?
Not to mention purchasing Vista

I'm buying a new computer anyways and I'm giving my current system to my g/f. It's a win/win

Re: Battlefield 3...in '08?
This is exciting news, but if they are currently predicting late '08, I'd say we'll see it sometime in '09.

Re: Battlefield 3...in '08?
I just read about it at digital battle
http://www.digitalbattle.com/2007/10...3-leaked-info/
Obviously you cant read too much into this, even if it is 100% true a lot can still change between now and the release of any game, but my initial thoughts on a couple of points...
No AT or Spec Op's? out of the 5 roles stated, who would get an AT launcherFive playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
maybe pickup kits?
Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle EastSounds like they aren't planning on putting much work in... statics etc used over and over again on each map... or maybe its half a game so they can sell you loads of shiny new expansion packsWill ship with 8 maps
Considering it's supposedly a document to be given to investors, nothing really excites me about the list of "features" tbh, if that really is the short and tall of it then it looks like it will be the mod teams that put life into this installment of the BF series... yet again many would say

Re: Battlefield 3...in '08?
Since this will be the second release of BF since the sell-out to EA, I predict this will be the version that they really strangle. The mentioned MMO features are to be read as "pay for play elements, with people getting better weapons then you because of hard cash".
Will it even come to the PC? It will be geared to console owners as they are much easier to suck money from.
Only one thing sounds good: the retention of the squad system and the addition of battalions. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

And it'll probably still have all the wonderful bugs and nonsense associated with the Battlefield DICE series.

Re: Battlefield 3...in '08?
I'm just hoping it turns out better than what 2/2142 have turned up with all their bugs and whatnot. And kinda odd they don't have a spec. ops class. I'd agree with the agree on 2142 style recon, but they called out one as sniper, so that'd be kinda odd.
Huge minus for me: shipped with 8 maps. Seriously, thats just plain sad. They'll claim they're new, dynamic and engaging, but seriously, after 10 times played on a BF map, you've encountered about 80% of all the normal areas/chokepoints/whatnot. Give the mapping kit to some choice mod teams and you'll have triple that small map count before ship date.
