Sure, you can use TS2 but just look at Frontlines to see how effective that is; I think people just don't want to mess with different channels. The fact is BF2 has spoiled us with the built in squad support which includes voice comms.

Now what I want is a BF2 version of BF 1942!

Yeah, it was a huge step up to include the ingame voice and squad stuff.

The 1942 version of BF2 is supposed to be Forgotten Hope. Meh.

And for those that missed Desert Combat:AIX, POE2 and PR are Desert Combat with a much better game to set upon. DC was fun but the gameplay bonuses (C130 gunship) are balanced out by BF1942's engine problems: dying from a 1 foot fall. Battle of Britain is the only map I still enjoy out of basic, and DC maps are just spamfests like AIX mod, which has a better engine.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Having been a dev on Desert Combat Extended I'm pretty happy to see the revival of 1942. Still miss those air and sea battles on Midway.

By now, they have made new updates/patches and 2 to 3 new boosters to Desert Combat since you loaded DC:E. The latest patch-thing was made available just last month.

Please guys, I think we should go like its 2142 on 1942.

Guys, I support the revival of either EoD .81 which requires .80 (with that Russian video upgrade mentioned on the EoD site) and or the newest DC download for 1942. We know that there is no voice or squad support, but hey, that only came out a few years ago, so lets do it.

Patch 1.6b, which requires the download of the Patch 1.6.

Does that mean you worked for Digital Illusions?

No, DCX as it was known was an add-on to Desert Combat which soon became a mod unto itself. It started when a gent by the name of Zeuser decided to make some gameplay changes to the original DC .2 files. By the time DCX finished we were at version .9 and had added the British Forces (navy, air force and army), guided aa missiles, an Avro Arrow (we were Canucks for the most part), "live statics" (blackhawks and other aircraft that would perform random flybys to add to the atmosphere) etc. It's definitely worth a look if you do end up installing 1942 and DC again.

Re: I have noticed 1942 is not dead...

The DCX team attempted a BF2 mod called Rising Conflicts which unfortunately never drew the crowds needed to keep the team motivated. That and several work stoppages due to members serving overseas pretty much doomed the mod. A core group have purchased their own engine to begin work on a new game from the ground up however.

As for myself, I found PR and haven't looked back. I'm currently in charge of testing and may wander back into coding if the mood strikes me.
