Agh...so slow...
Well, for some reason, when I try to load a map on vanilla BF2, it takes FOREVER. I'm used to long load times, but this is nuts. Could it be my video settings? Or what?

Re: Agh...so slow...
Maybe it's something like you need to defragment your hard disk.
Do a disc cleanup.
Maybe a graphic card driver (and sound driver) update aswell.
Checking for dust in the fans.
Checking for background processors, running in the background, like those in the systems tray.
Doing a virus and spyware scan.
Sounds as though it is grinding a bit, like your processor is chewing, so things like this to clean up the computer to smooth data transfer and keeping things pristine. As far as I know data transfer is affected mainly by thinks like this or broken (or haywire) links.
Then I would do maybe a full re-install..
.. before looking into a new graphics cards and so on. Such things as buying a graphics card, or RAM and basically upgrading the hardware in your system should be a last resort, and desirable for other reasons aswell, like it would be nice. Before any of that though, do such things as the above to get the motor that you have running nice and smooth, the basic maintainance jobby really for any engine.
Is all I know.

Re: Agh...so slow...
Defrag was the first thing I thought of, too, didnt really help.
And I just did a disc clean up.
I'll check for updates for the drivers.
Dust is possible, but i doubt it's that.
I always make sure I have no background processes running.
Spyware scan turned up nothing, about to do a virus scan.
I have a brand new video card, so i dont think it's too old for the game. I have 3.25 GB of RAM (32 bit OS won't support my full 4
). The only bad piece of hardware in my comp is my CPU (a Pentium D) and the power supply, which can't quite keep up with the power draw. But BF2's played fine with both these in the past.
I'll tell you if anything gets better.

Re: Agh...so slow...
Nope, nothing.
This time is completely stalled at 62%, at the end of loading Geometries.
Guess I'll have to re-install...this isn't going to be fun...

Re: Agh...so slow...
Try turning your Texture detail down. I remember my old PC stalling at 62% when textures were set to high. Try medium or low. This setting depends on your graphics card memory i think.

Re: Agh...so slow...
WEll, I'm currently southwest of you, wolf (amongst the Schweize), and away from my computer, but I'll try that when I get home.
Although I have a top of the line card (as of January, that is.)

Re: Agh...so slow...
My PC will take longer at 62% if I have just changed settings. Try turning off any driver-enforced anti-aliasing or antisotropic filtering.

Use BF2 cleaner to clean your shaders.
