    BF2 or BF2142 - some questions

    Hi,

I am thinking to buy one of those two games mentioned above. I have had some experience in BF2142 on a cracked russian server, where the team play was very bad, and I checked BF2 offline with a cracked version. Of course, one realizes after a while that there is no real battlefield experience on cracked servers or with bots, since everyone plays for himself.

From the offline experience, I like BF2142 more, since it has reduced number of classes and fancier equipment ( stealth device, etc ), and the vehicles are not too overpowered. However, it seemed to me that there are some severe balance issues in the game (the rockets are way too deadly). As a last thing to mention, BF2142 has no interesting mods out right now. BF2 on the other hand is not working with the latest engine, and is not better than BF2142 in its vanilla release - the BF2 vehicles are too deadly, and I find the BF2142 gunship aircraft a better solution than the super fast jets.

More things I dislike a lot with BF2142 is the fact that one has to upgrade Your soldier to get all the nice gadgets. I do not want to invest my time to get to the xyz rifle. Are there any servers where all equipment is enabled? Also, could anyone comment on the ingame advertisement EA put into the game? Does it affect Your computer when You have not started the BF2142 program in any way? I greatly dislike the approach of many software producers to collect information without my knowledge or display advertisement in media which I already have payed for, and it is certainly one of the biggest reasons why I am most probably going to choose BF2 as the proper candidate. Call me old school - still, I am not a brainless sheep which eats advertisement all day, and certainly not for free.

Also, there are some BF2 mods of interest out there, and people predict it to be existent in the online community for some more years. My mods of interest are POE2, PR and FH2, for AIX seems to be to much vehicle based and more single player focused mod.
However, I read in some threads that the servers of these mods are not that populated. How strong is the following of these mods? How many European Servers are out there? How long are they expected to last?

Are there differences in the player BF2 / BF2142 player communities? Are any good mods expected for BF2142?

Personally, I have no problems with sticking to an older program even for years. I have been a sporadic Urban Terror player over the years, and I still like the game a lot. But in a team game, you have to rely on active team players, so this becomes an important matter.

Thanks for reading. I know I posted this question in the BF2 forum, but I would really like to get a response from both sides about the questions I have posted and why they rather choose to play BF2/BF2142/mod

    Cheers,

    Wuschel

I suppose somebody should respond to this...
They're both fundamentally the same game. It seems like you already have a grasp of what each is like. All three communities (2142, PoE, and PR) have their own awesome and also their own shortcomings, but much of that has to do with how each game is designed. But, like how the games are fundamentally the same, so too are each of the TG subcommunities. You can't really go wrong anyway.
The truth of the matter is that you can buy BF2 for $10 and BF2142(+expansion) for $20. That's two games for half of what mainstream, new computer games go for these days. I'd say just get both and give each your own go.

Thank You for Your reply, Klenland. I bought BF2 - POE2, FH2 and PR sound too interesting to miss them. Unfortunatly, it is still in the trunk of my car, for I do not have time to play. But certainly, one day I should check it out!

MrMojay, I have no problem trying out a software and paying for it later when I see it fitting my needs. If one prefers to do it the other way around, he is absolutely free to do so. I did not ask for pirated software, nor did I spread it here.

And to those who did not answer because of the reason MrMoray mentioned: It is easy to put someone it a certain category without knowing him, is it? But, certainly, You are also free to do so. Anyway, I am happy with my choice.

    Cheers,

I meant no offense by it, you are of course free to do as you wish, and I respect that, best of luck...

POE2 makes buying BF2 worth it. IMHO

No hard feelings here. It is just that I really wanted to know the opinions of some other players.
