Re: what if anything made you lose interest in vbf2
The fact I could fire a missile at a J-10 with a 20-30 Ping and still miss.
The tank sniping with TV missiles.
The fact a tank couldn't kill a heli in one hit with a tank shell. (No, seriously. It just burns a little to give them tiem to bail.)
Complete LACK of real countermeasures for tanks. A laser guided missile is your bane and you can't even do anything to disengage the lock.
NO countermeasures on mobile AA. And the lack of range. Laser guides hit you from outside your range and there isn't anything you can do.
Overpowered aircraft. (Made the game too easy/cheap for me.)
Lackluster stationary AA that can be locked onto by aircraft.
'Nade spammers.
Weak handheld weapons.
About the only thing I loved about vBF2 were the hand-held guided AT.

I still play it, but not like the old days. Mostly due to 99% of my friends quitting it, and busier RL. Once you play with good players/squads, its hard to play alone.

Re: what if anything made you lose interest in vbf2
I just got bored of the spam. Somehow I got wind of PR. Thought I would try it out because I dearly wanted the tactical side and the squad cohesion (my first Mod ever). Basically I wanted like minds. It gave all, including the riproaring firefights and so stayed.
However I loved the maps and the noobishness of BF2. I liked a laugh and always was into quality games; I'm a gamer since the 70's, electronic games grew up with me; literally. It a hard core part of my persona. They grew up at the same time and with me. I wore Addidas, Defender was out. At ~15 women were more introduced in beat'emups etc etc and so on. Guantlet had alot to do with that, I guess. As an aside tradition is to play women in such games, they are faster, or are meant to be the more skilled. Well, we shall see how this genre develops. So once in a while I'd flirt with BF2 for an evening. But the shine had dimmed on BF2. Though like Defender, the coin op, or NHL 93 for the megadrive, it always had a soft spot as a gamer. And that is something to behold to be named in those ranks. As an internet thing, and PC, it took me to a new level. The human interaction instead of playing a consol like say, Goldeneye for the Nintendo ten years ago, between friends in a room. And it is not like the silly spam fest of other such games. It has depth and hence for me the right to be named amongst those that stood out and actually did something in the gaming field. It had reaction speed, timing, stealth, intuition and guile to incorporate into it. Ok, it did not have the fan thing, or luck keyed into it like NHL93 but that is another game altogether and the best by far as a standard to be met by developers in this field because even though it is a different game - it showed: quality.
I'm hoping a new version of the game will show alot of quality that holds like the giants (as couple mentioned) and not the dross. And am also glad of the BF2 server at TG for many reasons. I hope it is supported alot through the community.Last edited by Taip3n; 11-23-2008 at 09:47 PM.

Like many others here, I played vBF2 until I found the kind of teamwork and strateregy (and communication) that I was looking for, in POE2. Which then segued nicely into PR. I still hit up POE2 on occasion and have even gone back to Vanilla once or twice in the past week or so.
