Re: Asset destruction question
I'd like to know this as well...
What is the sense of going spec op, the class that is supposed to go on recon missions, blow up stuff, then try to sneak out alive when you can't steal at least a humvee or FAV to escape? totally understand about tanks, helis and vehicles of this nature
If you can't *steal* a vehicle to escape, what are you supposed to do? Blow the stuff up and stand playing frogger on the runway? sounds silly..

Re: Asset destruction question
ok, so here's the deal:
Originally (summer of 2005), NO vehicles could be stolen from the UCB. Then, towards the end of '05, it seems we changed it so that FAV's could be stolen for escape purposes. (Although I personally don't remember that and it's not explicitly called out as an exception in the rules.
)
Anyway - expect to see an official, updated rule-set posted shortly. We ARE allowing FAV's to be stolen as a means of escaping the enemy UCB.

Re: Asset destruction question
I would like to see <whatever the old rule is> updated to allow escape with a buggy or jeep. It is very easy for a commander to drop a crate on an asset and have it repaired within a minute. If your entry vehicle is destroyed and you have to walk back you will not make it far before the assets are operational again.
If you cannot escape quickly then a natural reaction would be to send a Spec Ops and a Support guy to hang around and keep destroying them. The attacked team will naturally start protecting their assests and then you start fighting inside a base that, IMO, may lead to other problems like who killed who, were they repairing the asset or just trying to protect it, etc. Get in, do your mission, get out.
I am thinking about longevity of the game play here with many of the TG regulars. No matter what thread comes up, if someone mentions what they do not like about Vanillla, it is usually UAV and arty. They are parts of the game and should stay parts of the game but then you have to ask if they can be reasonably countered. Keep my comments in the context that most of the TG players have moved on to other mods where that is not the central focus of the commander assests (arty) and they are deciding on how to allocate their regular playing time.
If a team has a resonable counter to any measure in a game whether it is arty or an APC parked behind a wall, then it is their choice to deal with it or ignore it and accept the concequences. Without vehicle escape I feel this becomes a balance issue.
EDIT: wish my laptop had post preview (Whiskey above) and it would have saved me some typing.|TG-12th| jb4

Re: Asset destruction question
Same reason we all want clarification on the rule. On two different nights before this discussion I went in with another Spec Ops to destroy assets. As the other team wised up to us coming in they started killing our entry vehicle when they were hunting us and we would have to steal a fast mover to escape and resupply.

Re: Asset destruction question
We are working on the rules. They should be comming very, very soon and get clarification for this.

Re: Asset destruction question
No, no, no. I'm playing with you. I have to get used to the asset squads again, and you guys were very persistent : ) You did it by the book.
I think the vehicle clarification is warranted, I saw some opfor leaving in choppers after asset destruction that night, and the night before warned a guy for driving out in a tank.

Re: Asset destruction question
i have a question. If by entering the UCB ,in order to destroy the assets, we see the commander. Can we shoot him or do we have to wait to be shot at?

Re: Asset destruction question
If he is the commander, he is dropping arty and using UAVs etc, shouldn't he be considered part of the battle? Sounds like fair game to me.....

Re: Asset destruction question
It is pretty easy to tell who the commander is.
1. If he has been artying people you know his name so the tag will tell you.
2. Spot him and he will flash white rather than red.
3. Listen for commander voice.
All that takes about 2 seconds.
