Announcement: SERVER RULES
Server RulesThese rules were created to achieve the goals laid out by TacticalGamer's Primer. We strive to have a server environment where there is good sportsmanship and mutual respect between fellow gamers; where the focus of play is not just to win, but to win utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging quirks in the game engine. We also strive to support game play in a near-simulation environment. In BF2, that means playing as if you are a soldier in a modern, organized military, engaged in a conventional war.
Some rules are in place to prohibit actions that would be out of place in real-world combat between conventional militaries [e.g. bunny hopping]. Other rules exist to cultivate sportsmanship and fair play - while some tactics may be effective in a win-at-all-costs environment, the same tactics often ruin the enjoyment for the majority of players on the server.
1) Players must follow the Chain of Command
a) Teamwork is REQUIRED on the server, and all players must participate in a squad. Squad Members MUST follow Squad Leader orders. (Creating a one-man squad so you can lonewolf is unacceptable)
b) Squad Leaders must follow Commander orders and make leading their top priority. SL's MUST issue orders using VOIP, commo-rose commands, or a combination of both.
c) Commanders must make directing their team the highest priority. CO's must NOT engage in any activity (piloting, tanking, attacking flags, e.g.) that distracts from this primary responsibility.
2) No Suicide Tactics This includes but is not limited to: Jihad-Jeeps, suiciding with the intention of changing kits, suiciding with the intention of spawning elsewhere on the battlefield, or intentionally blowing yourself up to cause the death or damage of another.
3) No Bunny hopping / Crack JumpingBunny hopping and crack jumping are terms we use to describe ANY jump or series of jumps that you wouldn't see in real-world combat.
4) No Spawn Camping Spawn camping is a premeditated act that takes advantage of a newly spawned player's lack of situational awareness, including claymoring/sniping/C4'ing known spawn-point locations.
Spawn Camping is not to be confused with perfectly acceptable "Killing Someone Who Just Spawned In Front of my Tank as I Move to Cap this Flag," etc. In BF2, you chose where you deploy. If you chose to deploy to a flag that is under attack, you should not be surprised if you are killed the moment you spawn
5) No UCB Camping The UCB (Uncapturable Base) is designated as a safe area for "reinforcements" to spawn-in, coordinate, and launch attacks. Any action that disrupts this is forbidden: players may NOT engage enemy 'reinforcements', and may only enter the enemy UCB to destroy commander assets and engage enemy "combatants". (A "reinforcement" becomes a "combatant", forfeiting any special protection, when they leave the UCB or fire out of it).
For clarity, we have included a short list of examples. This list does not cover every case, and is only provided for example:
Things that DO NOT break any rules - Entering the UCB to destroy CO assets and staying to ensure they don't get repaired
- Killing an engineer (or crate) that's repairing CO assets
- Defending yourself from enemy forces in the UCB that have engaged you/your squad in combat first.
- Chasing a retreating enemy vehicle back into its UCB to kill it.
Things that DO break the rules - Flying over the UCB for air-raids / bombing runs
- Killing an enemy commander that has not engaged you/your-squad first.
- Entering the UCB with the intent of booby-trapping/destroying enemy vehicles.
- Entering the UCB with the intent of stealing enemy vehicles. (The ONLY exception to this is that enemy jeeps or boats may be used to escape after a demo-mission against commander assets.)
6) Vehicles must be used realistically and according to their intended design. The goal of this rule is not to limit the imagination, rather it is to avoid certain behaviors that negatively affect gameplay, immersion, or map dynamics. The following examples are provided to illustrate the intent of the rule.
Things that DO NOT break any rules
- Running hostiles over in an FAV while traveling from Point A to point B
- Parking a ground-based vehicle in such a way as to create an obstacle or roadblock
- Using a transport helo as an orbiting gun-platform.
Things that DO break the rules
- Intentionally ramming one vehicle into another.
- Using a jet/attack-helo as a disposable transport to insert behind enemy lines
- "Driving around" in an FAV in an attempt to run-over enemy troops.
7) Audio is required
While the use of a microphone is strongly encouraged, the requirement is that you have VoIP enabled and can hear your teammates.
