Want to host a ranked server? better bend over

    <<Ranked server requirements?>>

EA is limiting trusted server distribution to our network of ‘trusted partners’ in order to protect the integrity of the code system. We want everyone to be able to play Ranked if they choose, preferably free of charge, so we’ve been working on ways to broaden the free trusted server network in the last few weeks.

What we recently decided is that in order to keep the trusted network manageable and secure, we will provide trusted server code to hosts that a) can demonstrate the security we need (i.e., total protection of the trusted server code, no FTP access to the boxes running Ranked Servers or anything like that) and b) are willing to host at least 10 free servers for a year. In addition, as they rent additional servers (beyond those first 10) they must also put up more free servers (one for each 10 rented). EA are asking for that arrangement instead of sharing revenue on the server rentals, as we are committed to getting as many secure, free ranked servers as possible for our community.

Something else to be aware of with Ranked servers is that they will have a number of settings hard-coded so that user's cannot adjust them. These settings were all set as below to keep the competition on Ranked servers balanced across all providers.

    Min Players: 16
sv.password = empty string (there are some servers out there with passwords…Ranked servers are intended to be available to all players, thus they may not be the right leasing choice for all players…please make sure that your clients understand that they are not to password Ranked servers…this item will also be hard-coded in the first update, so again best to sort out now).

    sv.numPlayersNeededToStart = (6 for maxPlayers 16, 10 for 32, 10 for 64)
    sv.spawnTime 15
    sv.manDownTime 15
    sv.ticketRatio 100
    sv.teamRatioPercent 100
    sv.punkBuster 1

Though it is not required, we also request that all servers run Friendly Fire at 100% for all settings.

Lastly, Ranked servers will not be allowed to run Mods or Custom Maps, as we cannot ensure the balance of these components.

Ranked server lessees should be allowed to apply a password to the server, but in order to facilitate this, your systems will need to be able to switch the Unranked server executable to do this.

Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns.

If you feel that your company can provide the security and breadth of servers to our Community that we are requesting, then we would are willing to move forward and evaluate your service as a potential Battlefield Trusted Server Provider and partner.

    Thanks,

I'm not sure I see the problem o.O

Does that list include Autobalance on? I played a ranked game today and it was CLeansweep, USMC- 22 players, MEC- 10. No one would switch because they wanted their dadgum ranks...pathetic.

I wish we could have TG's server/community with rankings :|

you have to host 10 free servers to rent any ranked servers and one free one for each 10 you rent

I have yet to even connect to another BF2 server aside from TG. Rankings mean nothing to me as do the unlockable weapons, however that could change in time who knows. Even if I wanted the unlockables/rankings I find it hard to justify the requirements EA has set forth.

Testify. I'd like to see a community/group of badass players who all have those little points/rankings things in their sig, and they're all superlow numbers. Kind of says 'I realized after 377 points that this EA point system is BS'. I can't even see playing on a Ranked server again with all the random lone wolves and crappy teamwork, after playing here for only 4 days.

I put myself through 2 days of ranked servers so that I can unlock the uber-sniper rifle. Now that I have that, I'm TG full time.

Now, I don't know who the original poster is, his only two posts have been here. Now I don't want to sound rude, why would you enter our forums, register, just to tell us something that few if any of us are interested in? Have you even played on our server? I suppose you have, if you did you would know just why none of us care for ranked servers. If you do play on our server, whats your call tag?

If I had seen this kind of post at PBF I would have expected an EA boycott form to be signed in triplicate, and returned to person in the Caman Islands along with a check for $300 dolllars. I still don't see how this effects us.

Really? I rented a Ranked Server last week for 30 days, just to see what it was like and play around with it. Didn't seem to be a problem, just needed a credit card. I leave it open when I'm not using it, and when friends what to play I just switch it to password protected. There is a standard server setting for Ranked- Auto Balance, Ranked- No Autobalance and Unranked Custom.

For some reason, I think he is talking about hosting companies who rent the servers out.

Ah ok. I guess I don't understand the general point of the original post, or more specifically why it's posted on TG.

It's never bad to have information. It helps us make decisions. It didn't sound like a request to make TG ranked or not. Information is good.

Over the past week it has been talked about the possibility of making TG a ranked server. I'm sure this post was placed here because of that.

"Lastly, Ranked servers will not be allowed to run Mods or Custom Maps, as we cannot ensure the balance of these components."

EA showing it's true colors. It's attempt to shut off the modding community.

While I am absolutely no fan of EA's actions regarding not allowing server operators to unlock weapons and/or run their own self-ranked servers, I don't think it's an effort to shut off the modding community.

I understand why EA wants to preserve the integrity of their ranked environment. The controls they are putting into place do make sense in terms of furthering the integrity of ranked servers. Allowing server operators to run modified servers could VERY easily be providing the keys for people to implement rank-farm type mods. With environments condusive simply to people rapidly increasing rank through illegitimate means rather than through actual gameplay.

Erm...what? RANKED servers my friend. I don't think EA would want some people's scores to be based off of BF2 and the rest based off of BF2: Candylane Battlefront.

But yeah, the article is not "You can't host a ranked server if you don't have 10 other servers" it's "You don't get to host one on your actual box if you don't have 10 other servers because we want you to be credible."

Sure, EA isn't a great group of folks, but don't jump all over them because they say some words :P

And WHY is autobalance not required on ranked servers?! It's hysterically annoying to get into a game and it's 10 vs 22 and the larger side doesn't care that they outnumber because they will gain points...

I'm glad you made that point, Apophis. I concur.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent.
