    Re: Wearing Tags

I put the tag on because I felt this game could be approached as a thinking man's game, with a little twitch added to keep it interesting. That means that working together, with a cohesive plan will be rewarded by the game. This is one of the first fps's I've played where that seems to be the case, and gives you tools to make that easier. (didn't play ut or cs or any of clancy's games).

That was also the mission statement that came through in this groups sop's, and more importantly, the posts. I read a bunch of them, read about the servers, and decided that this was a group of people I'd like to be a part of. I also thought that if I were going to receive the benefits of a closely administered server, active encouragement of teamplay, and the company and insight of dedicated players, paying to be a sm seemed only fair. (I'm a grownup, with a good job, and already dedicated a bunch of money to play BF2, so what's another $10?) I know not everybody can, but I can and did.

So, I created a new account, and added the ITGI to the front. The tag seems to be the in game equivalent of the yellow ribbon you stick on your car. Yeah, it shows you care, but it really doesn't do anything. You don't even have to pay for it. I did it in the hopes that it would communicate that I cared about the stated ideals of the community, and I hoped that it would make me easier to identify when the time came for an admin to pick someone to boot. (Hey, I'm new here, I know how tough it is to remember everyone who posts.) I also know that I try to join squads that have an SL sporting the tag, or at least a majority of the members with tags.

Those groups have typically been the better times I've had playing the game. Not because of the tag, but because of the person behind the tag. I hope I never have to be asked to remove it.

    Re: Wearing Tags

I ended up becoming a supporting member because servers cost money, and if I'm only playing on TG servers then they deserve my money for it.

Another reason is that I whole-heartedly agree with the play style and I try to match myself up to that standard.

I've been playing online games for a long time now and each one gets kicked to the wayside because of the lack of team play. The selfishness you seen on regular public servers is astounding and not something that I can tolerate very much. I love this style of play is what is comes down to. Am I the perfect team player? Nope, but I get better each match and I watch how the other TG'ers do things and I try to emulate. And that is why I where the TG tag - maybe someone else that was like me - desperately searching for a good server to play on will notice the tag and follow up like I did from the first time I noticed the TG tag.

    Thumbs up Re: Wearing Tags

when i first joined TG..i dint wear the tag for the first week...after reading all the posts and really getting a feel for what was here at TG i then decided to add |TG| to my name...i have alot of respect and honor of the admins and everyone who wears that tag...it will be cool to see that tag later in a few years when some of us move on or run out of time to play..|TG| stands for what every FPS gamer has wanted for a long time....i wear it proudly!

    o and great post!

Ditto. I just put it on in-game a few nites ago, for the same reason (in addition to Nemesis' original post). I'm all for elevating the teamplay/gameplay here as much as possible, and hopefully me wearing the tag and playing well will add to that.

    Re: Wearing Tags

Hello all, I have been playing on the TG servers for a few times. I had such a good time playing there and most of the people are mature I decided to become a supporting member. I too feel that if people enjoy the servers then they should help to contribute.

    Re: Wearing Tags

Nemesis great write up. With the new 1.03 patch, i have been seeing a lot more |TG| tags with the prefix thing, that arent living up to TG standards. (Most of the names i dont even recogonize). I think that harsher punishments and higher standards should be placed on those with a |TG| tag. For instance yesterday, I repeatly saw someone with a |TG| place c4 on thier buggy and run it into tanks and apcs. Maybe have the gentlemen's contract a part of having |TG| as your tag? Just some thoughts

    Nice work Nemesis.

It took me some time playing here and understanding the way it should be done before I felt I deserved to wear the tag. I'm not saying that I am any good, cuz I'm not, but I try to play the right way and try to learn from the |TG| tags that lead my squad. It's the same reason I became an SM.

The act you describe is not against the rules and while several people have created and signed the "gentleman's contract", that does not directly correlate to following the TG style of play.

    Re: Wearing Tags

This site was brought to my attention by some other new members of |TG|: D.U.G. and Dr. Lily. Only after playing on the servers for a couple of weeks and reading all the forum stuff, did I change my tags to |TG|. Its also the same reason I am now a supporting member. The team play aspect of the TG servers make other pub servers seem unplayable, in my opinion. Last night, our squad spent almost and entire round defending the south docks flag at Dalian Plant. We prevented the opposition from taking the flag for what seemed like forever. We followed the Commander and CO's orders and stayed there among an endless barage of arty, tanks and attack helicopters. Thats why I'm here. I don't care about the points I get(because I'm not that good), I just try and help my squad any way I can. Medic, AT, Support... whatever I can do to help. I'm not good enough to Rambo a server of 32 dudes and get the highest score. I can sure help out and be part of a cohesive team. You just don't see that anywhere else. Its the only place where the MAJORITY or players follow the rules and a gentlemens code. Theres always a few, but this is the only place where a few bad apples don't spoil the bunch.

Thanks to all who make TG what it is. Including people like Nemesis that call things out that should be called out. Im new here, but I'm not going anywhere for long time. The only place to play BF2.

    Abe

    Re: Wearing Tags

First started playing BF2 in July and was jumping around servers trying to find good games. early July I registered as Phillyred but never came back due to a new job and trying to finish summer courses to graduate late early (long story). A couple of weeks ago I admit I found the TG server searching for a populated and low ping server. And now I am totally hooked. I re-registered as aculle01 to match my game callsign and I have to congratulate everyone here for making it such a great gaming experience. One day to fill the urge while no one was on the TG servers I joined a Divo.net server, which I usually find quite good for a public server. Never again, there were people spamming "enemy spotted" because there was a mutiny/kick vote against them, jumping around like rabbits and shooting each other in the back for a vehicle. I think I now spend more time on this site than espn.com. The style of play is terrific, serious yet fun and always exciting, even when you have been ordered to defend the commander's assets or end up dying more times then you kill, you know you are a part of a team. Glad to be a part of TG.

    Re: Wearing Tags

Is it just me or does the game not allow you to put the pipe | symbol in that tag space?

Anyway, I love the server and team enforcement on it. Nothing like being a squad leader, giving an order and *gasp* actually having people follow it! On public servers, "defend this position" seems to mean "go as far away from this position as possible! He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!"
