Weapons strength/shot placement
Serious question here, not a whine. Is there a huge difference between weapons strength, and how much does shot placement affect damage? I'm getting frustrated of pinging a guy 3 or 4 times and then having him nail me with one shot.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
Oh. my. god.
ME TOO!!!!
i thought i was the only one drilling someone with 2 clips point blank in the back then having them turn around (me being full health) and owning me with a simple assault gun in a split second!
i get that too man, and some may think its cuz my aim sucks, but when im down in prone, right clicked with my m4, and drilling someone in the back...you cant get much better aim than that. so yeah, i feel ya.
i also love sniping in games like this but in this, its impossible for me because it takes 5 bullets to take out ag uy in prone. oh well.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
I tested the sniping out in game with a buddy. Mind you we were stationary targets, but we tried from all distances and achieved one shot one kill, each time we hit in the upper torso area. (even got kills through the corrugated metal fences!) But, movement throws everything off. I supsect that lag and ping play a big part in nailing someone who is bunny hopping around versus nailing someone laying still. The key "never stop moving unless your sniping"

Shot placement makes a big difference. Aim for the upper chest and the center line down the middle of their body. If you're just hitting the legs you'll have to hit them a lot before they die. It really depends on range, if you're close enough to hit them in the head do it.
In a general the weapons classes are similar across the teams. The Carbine for the MEC isn't that much different from the Carbine on the USMC. There is a huge difference between weapon classes though. The SMGs do much less damage then Assault Rifles and Machine Guns etc.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
Here's a compilation of weapon damage, accuracy, and recoil (scroll down to the bottom):

Dunno how accurate this is.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
Well that helps a little bit I guess. Still seems suspicious when I hit a guy 3 times with a SVD, he turns and kills me dead with one hit from a M16.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
I experience that a lot too. Thought it was because I had a ridiculously poor aim, but I have had many situations where I was standing 2 meters away from the enemy, with his back to me, shooting 3-4 times (not at his legs) and then he turns and hammers me with one single shot??

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
More than likely he shot you in the head. I have had this done to me, and done this to other people as well, so it can happen without a cheating element involved. Different classes have different levels of armour too, apparently.
Burst fire can be very poor, especially when stood up, as even at 5-10m range a lot of your bullets can miss (especially if you are moving as well). It all leads to inaccuracy that in some way can be seen by the size of the aiming reticle.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
It also depends on the class of soldier you are shooting at, SF,ASU and AT have heaver armor. Meds,ENG,and Sup. Have little or no armor.I will have to find the link for the actual disc. of each class.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
IIRC Assault, Support, and AT have heavy armor. It takes 5 body shots to take them out w/ an M16 and 4 with AK101/47 and G3. All other classes take 4 shots from M16 or 3 from the other rifles.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
i don't know about you guys, but i'm thoroughly convinced it's a problem with the netcode.
in singleplayer, i can pop bots with a couple bursts of fire from pretty far away, and they always go down. likewise, a few rounds at close range never ceases to kill.
online, i've unloaded half a magazine into a guy from near point-blank only for him to live.
seems fishy to me.

Re: Weapons strength/shot placement
I agree there's a hit-detection issue...I think.
Singleplayer it's a lot easier to hit and kill...but maybe bots have lower hitpoints? : /
