Re: black hawk down mod?
Mishkan, if you can get a site going let me know if you need help with that too. I also know HTML pretty well. If I was anygood at drawing I would post my idea, we'll see, if I think its any good Ill scan it on here for us.
When I get home people'll ask me, "Hey, why do ya do it man? Why? Just some war junkie?" Ya know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is.

Re: black hawk down mod?
BF2 didn't have any civillian car models included like planned (maybe some are hidden) but I remember upturned cars were used a lot to barricade and blockade.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

Re: black hawk down mod?
Awesome, stationary things like that are a rather easy addtion because it only involves modeling a junked out car and texturing it, no scripting/code required to make it drivable. Maybe allow it to blow up and such but that's about the extent.

Re: black hawk down mod?
There are already models of junked cars (Strike on Karkand) used as road blocks in game. There are also crashed blackhawk models (Zatar Wetlands/Songhua Stalemate) and APC wrecks.
I figured that the OpFor buggies are the closest thing to a civilian car. I think if someone wanted to model a technical ala C&C Generals that would be more along the lines of what was seen in Mogadishu but would that not make this a MOD?

Re: black hawk down mod?
Great to hear those items are in game, means basically we need to model Mogadishu the place: terrain, buildings, bases. Lots of objects, hopefully, can be pulled from some of the other maps in game already.
Yes, I think it's best to stick as keeping it a "map." If we get it completed and it's well liked, maybe it would be possible to get it put into the map rotation for the TG servers. As a mod, it would limit a lot of people from using it, as I for one don't want to load up a mod to play a map, at least not at this time. The game has a lot to offer, seems best to work with it and keep it accessable to the general TG community.
Also, I think it would be awesome if maps downloaded when you connected to a server currently on a map that you did not have, that way it wouldn't restrict people who didn't have it, theyd just have to wait a bit to dload it.

Re: black hawk down mod?
Road blocks would be a nice feature, hvae people take a few turns and find out they hit a dead end and then have all these AT firing at them as they ry to turn around or back out.
Maybe try to find away to put a stationary AT on a car or something, don't know if it makes it a mod though, i think it does. When I get home people'll ask me, "Hey, why do ya do it man? Why? Just some war junkie?" Ya know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. Re: black hawk down mod?
count me in as a texturer/modeller. i don't know 3DSMax at all, but I can use Truespace to make the models if someone can import them.
i've read the book also, and have been wanting to make a map of this for a long time. We may want to post on planetbattlefield Mod forums, maybe send a msg to planetbattlefield announcing the plans to make the mod, may get a bunch more people to help. or there may already be a mod team working on a BlackHawkDown map already?

Re: black hawk down mod?
we also have to keep the essential
repelling ropes that moved around and could be dropped off the BH
Very close proximity building all streets being very very narrow to give the MEC a advantage
have to have the little bird
gotta have the actual music used in the movie(gotta have dat LOL)
make the base for the USMC be very very far from the action
have at least 5-8 humvees to make it a convoy because 4 is too little
have to have the flat beds to load the priseners
have to extract make it a extract map if possible (pably not)

Re: black hawk down mod?
Let's start small, get it off the ground before and get direction first. Give us all a few days to get some order to it and get a site up so we don't turn the TG General BF2 forum into a Mogadishu Map discussion :P
jacat, I'll look into truspace -> max/maya. I'm sure there's a way.
Texturing will really be an end step as if you read up on the editor, you'll be applying them through BF2's editor, not what we model in.

Re: black hawk down mod?
Wow are we going for the mod or the map? I agree, lets start with the map and if becomes a hit we could look into a mod. It would be a pain in the ass to load a mod just to play one map.

Paypal
Until we get hosting I will host it under my current site. I added a paypal donation link you all can donate, so that we can get a decent server to host everything on(I'm poor). We will probably only need about $72 for the first year for a decent server with about 500 MB of space and 25 GB of transfer and a domain name. Also if we could figure out a good domain name to pick for the mod site that would be great.
Anyhow go here for the PAYPAL donate button and where the site is going to be.

Any amount helps...
The faster we can get hosting the better. I'll put up some forums in the next day or two. I'm a competent webdesigner if you look at my portfolio:

Thanks for the help though gordy.
Obviously we can just start with the map and then use the mod for multiple combat scenarios and scuffles I guess.
Also post in here if you donated and how much just so I can double check.Last edited by Mishkan; 07-07-2005 at 03:17 PM.
