    No more team play?

Lately every squad I get on doesn't play as a team. The squad leaders aren't giving any orders and nobody is using a mic. I expected the experience to get better as people learned how to play but it has gotten worse. Have I just had bad luck getting on poorly led teams?

Also, sometimes I can't get on to the TG servers so I have to try others. Nobody out there is playing as a team! Are there any other good places to play besides on TG servers?

There's no other good place to play besides TG!

There are times (depending on when you join the server) where the squad play won't be as expected. You may also end up with an SL who isn't going to perform his duties. Being that we have two public servers with a low ping, we'll attract a lot of players.

When any of our players comes across another who is not performing their duties (i.e. giving & following orders), the best thing to do is get on teamspeak and ask for an admin. Provide us the name (spelling helps) of the player and the problem he is causing or the rule he is break. Once we get that, we'll deal with the situation.

You can jump on teamspeak while you're in game. Just make sure to bind your mute / unmute toggle and channels.

Also you're better off if you don't play ranked.

Don't know about other servers, b/c I'm on these servers exclusively now...

I'd say just to form a custom squad, invite players, and manage the squad well, including kicking those not following orders or lone wolfing it. A lot of ppl on the tg servers are looking for good gameplay, and once you get a reputation for being a good SL (or commander or even squad member), you'll have an easier time finding quality teamwork.

It took me about 3 games at the start to find a decent squad. There's usually about 2-3 good ones during non peak hours and they are mostly full. Sometimes you get lucky and hit a good squad. I usually look for TG people or one's that post here first.

As for making your own I'm starting to agree. Yesterday I was in a 2 man squad (no one else wanted to join I guess) with a TG member and it was a lot better than the 6 man no mic squad leader squad. I would just try to go through all the open squads and if they fail make your own. All you have to do is accept commander orders and inform your team about the objective to make it an enjoyable experience.

I'm starting to agree with Muld, being in a sqd where the SL does nothing really stinks, it makes people run all over the place. I got so frustrated on Dragon Valley I made a sqd of myself and just ran repair chores, and demo runs for the Commander. Think I made about 20 points that whole map mostly on repairs, but at least I felt I accomplished something.

i have tried about 50 servers by now. I have stumpled upon a few, which focus on tema play - but it is more a problem of hitting the right hours.

For instance, teamplay on the dmw server can happen, something like 5/6 of a squads doing mics and most of the squad work together, i.e. leapfrogging etc. So not like TG, but still...

    Re: No more team play?

I think team play is still very much present but it is a function of hours. On weekdays I play earlier than most North Americans as I live in Germany and there really seems to be a lot of new people on then. On the weekends when I stay up later I do notice the team play aspect improves as it gets later.

But for those of you playing in the earlier hours before the servers really heat up, don't give up completely being SL. I have had a few very frustrating games as SL (an entire squad without mics, squad members yelling at me to leave them alone, squaddies running all over the place, etc, all the classic stuff). But there have also been good moments, when a squad member who was doing all the above suddenly "snaps" into place, starts following orders and really contributes. I think a lot of new people are coming to the servers and they may not be used to playing as a team. I'm hoping for that every new person that tells me: "Leave me alone!" there will be another person that says: "wow, great team work guys, that was awesome." And it does happen.

    Re: No more team play?

This weekend seemed to be an abnormality where it didn't seem like there were to many people playing as a "team". It was frustrating to say the least. I guess all you can do is make your own squad and lead it the correct way and have fun. I needed to do that on a few maps this weekend.

Speaking of that - big thanks to Muld for being my only squad member and putting up with me learning the SL role. We were dealing with a commander that wasn't giving orders other than "get all the flags for me" and other squads running around where ever they felt like it. It's much more enjoyable to have 2 or 3 people in a squad playing correctly than have a full squad not playing correctly.

Also, I can honestly say that I did get quite peeved on a few maps where the squads were maxed and some were locked at 1(!) or 2 people. Maybe I'm wrong, but that to me is really unacceptable to lock your squad when the servers maxed at such a low count. At one point, the SL kicked me from his 2 man squad because he didn't want anyone else in there but him and his buddy playing Rambo.

    Re: No more team play?

I've been holding off playing until the 1.01 brouhaha gets sorted out, and I assume there are a few others like that. So if dedicated TG membership is down relatively on the server, that probably means it fills up with randoms. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it may mean they need a little more hand-holding to figure out that real teamwork and squad play is what the TG server is all about.

    Re: No more team play?

I've noticed a steady decline in the team work on our servers since release. When this game first came out, teamplay was found everywhere, just about any hour. I think our problem is that too many pubbies are choosing this server because of our awesome ping times.

So many pubbies are joining that our regulars (non-supporting) are not able to get in to the server as they once did. So now, rather than team oriented non-supporting members we're getting just random pubbies who, I believe, are ruining our whole experience.

I just remember I could join the server in the evening around 6-9 PM EST and always find a good squad. Now I always seem to be searching for an hour or so to find a good squad, sometimes never finding one. Yes. I could start my own squad. But that isn't the point! The point is, we didn't used to have this issue. We did not have an issue with so many pubbies joining our server and ruining our gameplay!

I truely believe we need to lock out pubbies from our servers. Don't allow them in. We have enough player base to maintain the population on our server. I'd rather be down to one 64 player server with no pubblies allowed than 2 public servers with pubbies mixed in, ruining the experience.

I say lets give it a try. Lock our main 64 player server with a password available in the SOP and guidelines, just like our Saturday night lock-ins, for instance. I bet the gameplay on the server will increase dramatically and we'll have so much more fun.

I'd rather be down to one server with this kind of gameplay rather than 2 servers for the public to enjoy on the behalf of our loss.

    Re: No more team play?

    Yay to that...

First I saw about TG servers from Planet forums. I checked it out (after procrastinating a bunch) and it was tasty. So throughout the demo era I played on TG servers with a different name.

You could always leave the 48 person server to the pubbies. From 48 the pubbies who enjoy teamwork will check out the forums and discover there exists a server with 64 players with nothing but teamplayers.

I also think as the time went by and new skills are discovered the teamplayers' expectations are higher. They expect their squad to be super communicative. And they jump from squad to squad instead of trying to chip in to make that squad better. That way SL s get frustrated and grow quiet. I guess the average SL s need to be taught how to keep your squaddies interested.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Thumbs up Re: No more team play?

I've run into this as well. I second Telorn's idea. I've had my BEST bf2 experiences on the TG servers when there are many TG affiliated folks playing. Having a server that makes non-TG folks aware of TG principles and SOPs would be great. The publicly posted password is such a tiny hurdle. Defintely worth an experiment. Set it up and evaluate as we go. My $0.02.
    Cheers,

Super communicative is not as important IMO as working towards a goal. There are many times I join a squad and there is no waypoint or any indication of what I'm suppose to be doing. Yesterday I was in one where the SL would just spawn at the main base take the BH get shot down in a minute or two and repeat. He never said what base we were attacking or defending so I ended up leaving that squad.
