Re: please help me fly a chopper
Another tip I might have missed in my scan of this thread: turn the mouse sensitivity down to about 1.00.
REALLY helps. Most new pilots are "heavy" on the stick and this solves that. Turn the sensitivity up as you improve.

I'd say get a joystick as soon as you can. It's inexpensive, and it does wonders. Will help you find that smooth, natural feeling there is to flying, and you'll be able to transfer your hand knowledge onto an airplane as well.

Personally I have The Afterburner I and it's perfect for this game. Highly recommend it.

I picked up the game and gave it a go the other day. It does not autocentre, so you have to anticipate the move.

Anyone got any tips?Jex.

Uh, aim short? The rockets are notoriously inaccurate, that's why there's a gunner seat.

Re: please help me fly a chopper
There seems to be a difference depending on the angle of the chopper as to where the rockets fall - I'll do some testing. Does the gunner get to use all weapons?

Re: please help me fly a chopper
Gunners have 2 weapons.
1. A chain gun. Deadly against infantry, light jeeps, and can be used against enemy choppers. Shoot away. press F9 one more time to make the chopper animation disappear so u can much more as a gunner on the chain gun.
2. a TV guided missile. Deadly against armors. Shoot the missile and use your mouse to control the missile from the missile's perspective as it is midair. On head on hit this missile can blow up a Tank with full health with one shot.
Pilot dude have one weapon
14 missiles.
But Pilot's main role is to spot and hover in air as steady as possible until the gunner takes down stuff... Pilot can use 14 missiles against enemy choppers and some ground forces if gunner fails to destroy them

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Re: please help me fly a chopper
My worst mistake was to try to fly in 3rd person view. All that does, is cause me to overcompensate ALL movements.
Also, I could NEVER really get the hang of flying with kb + mouse. I use an OLD and cheap Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick. Being old, it does not require specific software. This is really handy at gaming cafes or on a friend's computer. I just plug it up (USB), calibrate it in control panel and play.
PS - If you get an older joystick, just be sure it has rudder control.

Re: please help me fly a chopper
I'm finding my Saitek Cyborg Evo is really helpful and over on GWJ, someone mentioned finding one for $30 new. I got mine for $20 factory reconditioned direct from Saitek. Worth every penny.

Re: please help me fly a chopper
To further explain, the TV guided missle does not work like an AT missle. You do not hold the fire button down and move your mouse to make the TV missle move. If you want to change the trajectory of your missle, place your mouse over the new spot and do a single left click. This will then cause the missle to *try* and adjust to your new course.

This information is from the Prima strategy guide and I've used it to be #1 on a map with an excellent pilot. We were blowing Blackhawk's out of the sky and tearing up tanks with those TV Missles.
The best moment I remember is when my pilot brought us up behind a full 6-man BH that was flying straight. I fired that TV missle right up their tail and they all died in a glorious blaze. I believe asch was one of the individuals in the BH

Ah... so that's the trick. Thanks for the heads up Telorn.

Re: please help me fly a chopper
I've been practicing with my Saitek Evo, and while it works wonders for piloting jets, I think I do better on the copters with my kb+mouse. Not that I'm particularly good at either one no matter what I use for control.
