But my worry is that if people get in the habit of forming exclusive squads the quality of the other squads will suffer. I wouldn't have become fascinated with TG if I hadn't had the fortune of playing with a well organized squad the first time I joined.

You don't really have to lock a squad unless you want to keep it from becoming full, as in my spec ops example, or with an air-support squad.

No - it's still valid. But how does one "request" to be in a locked squad? Just click "Join" , and the SL gets a message?
If so, that'll work just fine.

I understand your concern. I don't plan on making locked squads unless I'm doing something specific with the 42nd during a squad practice. I agree that in order to get more people interested in how we play, we need to make sure they can play with the rest of us!

The 42nd survive? If you guys show up on the server as a squad....I think I'll go admin CS:S Server 1 or something....

I can't remember who is the full 42nd roster, but the 42nd are handpicked from GR and JO, presumably by Apophis and/or Luna, and represent the best we have.

I have seen locked squads with only 1 member. These squads persist for the length of the map without growing at all. This would be an example of a squad locked for the purposes of just keeping people out.

A squad that was locked, yet would respond to requests from TG members to join is an example of a squad that is formed for the right reasons.
Sounds more like another exploit for those juvy Ragers to just piss people off by forming 4 one man locked squads. :-(

    Re: Public server, private squad

Last night I made an unlocked squad called "TG ONLY". I actually got some non community members join up and ask about how to get involved in the community-the squad rocked the BTW. I think I might do a squad called "TG LEARNER" or "TG RECRUIT" so I can help to introduce pubies to our great BF2 community. Regulars are welcomed to join, though. Nothing like two or three guys showing the pubies how it's done.

    Re: Public server, private squad

i always love going into the server and being asked about TG....to think i was one of those once....makes my think of what i did before TG......NOTHING!

And once a person comes to the game and you tell them about the forums and such they never leave!...

This is a really good observation / idea and I think we should do it more. When TG members (supporting or not) start a squad, call it something along the lines of TG Training, so that people know it's a TG squad. There is a thread in the private forums about this same subject, except taking it a little futher.

I should really put a TG in my name, I'm just lazy and don't want to start a whole new login.

Just put in your sig, like me AMosley

And since I've been doing a lot of SL'er'ing lately I think I'm gonna go with Rincewinds idea of naming squad something like TG-Members, TG-Learning etc. Very good ideas!
