Is it Bad to Talk too Much?
I don't talk much when I'm a normal player, but when I'm a SL I tend to talk a lot to tell my men what to expect in locations we're attacking or defending, pretty much passing on the info the CO gives me... And when I'm CO I'm talking like 90% of the time to tell people where threats are coming from and what they're going to do after they're done with what they're doing. I don't block anyone that doesn't need to listen either, so I'm talking to everyone all the time pretty much when I'm CO, and everyone knows what's going on. Is that bad?

I quite like it when your SL talks a lot. It gives you more confidence in his abilities and makes you feel more motivated. I really hate it when your SL only says a few words here and there.
I find it helpful when the SL gives a quick breifing just before a new objective. Also its makes me much more confident if the SL tries to implement some sort of tactics. Even theoretically simple tactics like flanking etc make me feel like he is a good SL.
I've noticed that when an SL is fairly talkitive the squad memebers tend to stick closer together and work better as a team. When the SL appears to be exceeding in his job it makes the squad members want to do their job better also.
I think its much easier for someone to talk too little than to talk to much (that make sense?).

I think a balance needs to be drawn because if command is constantly speaking, it makes it hard for the SL to talk to his team or hear what they are telling him.

Please talk. Squads have to talk. COs must talk. As long as 90% of your comments are not about what happened last week on Stargate SG-1, everyone should be alright.

Perfectly said!I think its much easier for someone to talk too little than to talk to much (that make sense?).
I think the CO's have to make sure they are not talking all the time to all squads. I don't know how easy it is, but maybe for specific instructions talk to just the squads that need to follow it. for more general information then all squads is good.
I don't think SL's can really talk too much.
The more the person leading you communicates, the more confidence you will have in him/her.

SL's definitely can't talk too much. Keep yapping, Maranhao!
As CO though, he should try not to talk all the time. The CO can't tell how much the squads are talking. Since he probably talks to all the SL's, he could be disrupting comms with all the squads at the same time. It would effectively make all SL's deaf.

Just keep the comments short and to the point. There is nothing wrong with relaying intel and orders. What I find difficult is when I'm an SL and trying to listen to my squad that the CO can drown all of that out.
What would help is if the CO started with "squad X..." that way I know when I have to pay attention to the CO.

Amongst your squad you should be talking a lot, commands, goals, what is where, situational. A SL should be talking to the Commander in as few words to get the idea across as he can. I have had instantances where EVERY squad has tried to talk to me at the same time, and I have to ask each one individually what they said, not a bad thing persay since they ARE talking, but just remember if you are an SL to keep it brief and simple.

Maranhao, you did fine as CO with your level of communication. You even identified each squad while talking with them. Only thing I have to say is that your mic needs to be turned down a tad, it was just a little too loud.
But, overall, a fine job.

SmokingTarpan, thanks first of all for the comment. =p I'll look into fixing that mic problem somehow. My mic is a really good, so sometimes it comes out loud. Was it you who asked me to turn it down yesterday? Whoever it was, I had to literally twist it and put it behind the back of my head, and everyone could STILL hear me fine! =o

We could all do better with this.
Normal radio protocal starts with "YOU this is ME, over" situationally dependent of course.
I find myself wondering who said what often as I don't know their voice yet, was too preoccupied to notice the name in the lower right, or the name didn't appear at all.
This brings up the topic of call signs for everyone. Which I think has been discussed in other places. For SLs on the command net it is easy, call them by squad number. The 6 is normally reserved for commander so we should consider that as it is possible to have a 6 squad too, right?
On the squad nets, call signs are more difficult. Using numbers may work, but the squads will have to work on it to get it right. Weapons systems or kits might work as well. Something to consider as calling by name can be onerous given some of the creative ones that are out there.

I also agree with you guys...
It is so difficult to lead the squad if CO uses the comm channel frequently. I never tried to be a CO.
Can he/she can speak to squads separately?
