Re: I cannot stand Kubra Dam
I think Kubra gets dumped on too much. It's a different play style from most of the other maps because, unless you're very dominant, you can't really bleed the enemy team. It seems that the only reason we have the smaller map is so that the COs can bleed each other.
In my opinion Kubra that's made Kubra a much less dynamic map. What I believe should be happening on the map rarely does because the COs are simply trying to bleed each other but neither side has the resources to hold enough flags so it always becomes a game of whack-a-flag.
What I believe should happen is a receding defense by the MEC and multi-squad offensives to capture key points by the USMC. The number of flags you hold doesn't matter as much as the strategic value of the flags. Holding the dam area is critical to both sides, not holding 51%. The other flags shouldn't be considered essential territory but potential sources of resources that use to capture the dam.
The MEC team should first attempt to hold the USMC at the 2 exits from the UCB (the valley and mountain pass). The MEC shouldn't make this a priority, they wont be able to hold the USMC the entire game but they can slow them down and even the ticket disparity. Once the USMC begins to succesfully push out the MEC should blow the bridge and fall back letting the USMC into the valley.
The USMC needs to make concentrated pushes on key flags rather then trying to capture the weakest and inflict bleed. They need to take the high ground and their goal should be to make a foothold into the dam. For the USMC even if they have to fight from the valley there's multiple paths to the flags and if possible multiple squads should attack from multiple routes to give the attack the best possible chance of creating a foothold.
Things on Kubra that are underutilized:
The Dam - It's not a bridge so infantry shouldn't be constantly attack across the top of it. They should use the side paths to avoid vehicles and get some protection from aircraft. Infantry can also fall back inside the dam to regroup or hold out because only other infantry can dig them out of those areas. The vertical nature of the dam also renders the Scan and UAV innacurate, there should be decent infantry action across it almost every game but it's largely ignored.
The Tunnel - In the middle and at the bottom of the dam is a small tunnel. It's the fastest route from the valley to the MEC airfield. It's also one of the few true choke points and it's a small safe zone from enemy aircraft. Through it you can completely circumvent the dam area and drive ground forces straight to the MEC Airfield.
The Structures - This is about the only map where every flag has a small building where infantry can go for protection against bombs and artillery. The Cranes aren't just for snipers, a few ATs in them can wreck an armor column from a crane.
Transport Helicopters - Both sides should use them because their use threatens rear bases forcing the enemy team to spread out keeping them from concentrating too greatly. Without them the fight at the dam will get more stagnate the Karkand river crossing. They can also be used to put infantry in regularly inaccessible locations like hills above the defenders.
This kind of turned into a rant...
Anyways though, give Kubra a fair chance. It may not be a bleed map but neither is Karkand.

I don't like it when our server empties clears out because a crappy map comes up.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
There are some huge maps that dont make the game fun: FuShe Pass, Kubra Dam, and Operation Clean Sweep. Since they are so big, 64 people do not have a lot of contact with each other. Originally, BF2 was supposed to support 100 players. As you can see, that didnt happen. I am guessing that the maps were made prior to the decrease in players. Dont know why they didnt adjust the maps. It reminds me of the Gazala map in BF1942. That map was huge and unpopular.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
Maybe we should change FuShe to the 32 player map?

Fun is subjective and different for everyone. I personally like those maps.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
Any map that makes the server go from 64 players to 30 should be dumped for obvious reasons. Sure its nice to have more maps in the rotation just for a change of pace and to please everyone, but not at the expense of everyone leaving.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
I profoundly dislike Kubra Dam.
I believe the only way to really know which map is the less popular would be with a rating system so players could actually rate each map from 1 to 10. In the end, it would clearly show which maps are the less popular.
Discussing likes and dislikes in a thread like this one will not clearly show the answer we are looking for: which map(s) to remove from the server rotation.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
IMO, remove none. Every map brings something to the table. If all we played were Karkland, Dalian, and Oman, I'd get bored right quick.

Re: Maps we'd like removed from Rotation
I guess I'm in the minority..I like all the levels. They all have pluses and minuses, but I find them all fun. I say keep them all in the rotation. Fewer maps gets me worn out on those maps...more maps keeps it interesting, IMO.
