Locking Air Squad
I do not believe that the 'air' squad should ever be locked. Last night on a map I wanted to join the 'air' squad with the currently 2 people in it, but I couldn't because this TG member had locked it. Even if there were only 2 fighters available, and no bomber to allow 3 members, it should not be locked. If a 3rd or 4th person wants to partake in air assets because they enjoy it, no one should be able to 'lock' the squad and claim the assests as their own to use.
It also became an issue when one of them dropped and only one was in the squad. Now one assest is unusable if you follow the rules of only flying in the air squad...and one can't follow that rule if the air squad won't let them join.
Please, do not lock air squads. Most people can read 'air' and won't join as a grunt. If they do, explain to them that you're 'air force'. If they want to partake in it, you should share. Alternate bombing, for example...or alternate on the fighter spawn. While you wait, you can lay mines at entrances, fix commander assets, etc...Telorn

Re: Locking Air Squad
I also think this is bad form. As I mentioned in another thread, I'll jump in the air squad while doing menial work around a UCB.

Re: Locking Air Squad
Either tonight or tomorrow I'm looking to do some air support. I've been doing ground support since the game was released. I'm hoping some of the people who do nothing but air support will make some room for some others to get in on the action without giving us too much grief.

Re: Locking Air Squad
On the other side of this I was playing yesterday and we didn't lock the air squad. We then had players join who weren't really air (they we attacking on the ground). It's a pity there isn't a global comms for each side so you could at least communicate to the SL and ask him to open it up.
Having a rule that states players must join the Air squad isn't really enforcable. Pubbies won't know it and what if 7 players want to fly - do we have 2 air squads?Jex.

Re: Locking Air Squad
I want to be on Tarpan's squad, but it can and usually is full and I can't join him. Same goes for air squad. If it's full, you have to wait your turn for a spot to open. Those 6 people will already be sharing the aircraft enough as it is.

Re: Locking Air Squad
You should have made a squad called "The REAL Air Squad"

Re: Locking Air Squad
Well, it turns out this subject will become mute when the 1.03 patch comes out, that was announced today. In the announcement, EA mentions that locked squads will receive a notification when someone wants to join.
So locking the special squads won't be a big issue...as long as the SL pays attention to when people request to join and allow them in - no matter what - to at least allow them to talk and discuss how the assets are being used.Telorn

I'm guessing that it will also become moot.

I have also seen the air squad with one guy in a tank, and that is just wasteful in so many ways.
The addition of a join request capability will be a good thing.

Re: Locking Air Squad
this kind of goes along with this and it kind of doesnt...they need to have dynamic squad numbers...when 16 people are playing have more squads with 3 per squad and when alot are playing 9 per squad....just so that in a smaller map you can stil have the same coverage with fewer players..im sure there are some reasons not to have this....
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Locking Air Squad
In version 1.0, these notifications already took place. I remember that one night I was on TG having crash issues, so I locked my squad because I didn't want people joining me only to have me crash a minute into the game. A few seconds later, I received a notification that someone wanted to join my squad, and I could PageUp to allow him or PageDn to deny.

Yeah, I thought I remembered the same thing. I was confused when they said they were "Adding" it in the next release... thinking all this time it was already there.
