Seriously though, if you play here a lot and follow the SOPs, then it's advantageous to wear the |TG| tag. It'll greatly decrease the chances of getting kicked.
Or greatly INCREASE your chances... as Bommando indicated, actions counter to the TG spirit from a tag-wearing player will earn swift action, whether there's someone waiting for a slot or not.
personally... I don't want to invest that money. Don't get me wrong, TG is awesome and the people rock and what they stand for rocks too...AND I'll never play another server, (Seriously, I wouldn't play BF2 at all). So like I said.. "its ok" I was being sarcastic. I just think its funny.
I probably could afford it. I just don't think I need to spend any more than the money that I spent on the game itself to enjoy myself. I'll let others do that. I can play another time, if someone else wants to use their 9 dollar pull
I don't pay $9/mo. for the privilege of a reserved slot - I pay for the privilege of supporting and participating in a community I believe in. Servers are a dime a dozen for BF2, but ours are unique. It's the community that makes them special. The supporting members aren't slot whores - I suspect many are like me, who don't ask for a kick lightly, realizing that someone's going to get the boot and that it sucks for them.
I think the policy is that everyone is welcome to play for free and there's no pressure to pay whatsoever. That is a wise and noble policy, although I personally feel that if you can afford it and you want to play here regularly, you should chip in. For the cost of one movie a month, which would probably suck anyway, you get hours and hours of great gameplay, guaranteed. It's one of the few monthly expenses I don't mind.
Me, I pay the 9$ so that a spot can be opened if needed. I'm not gonna wait 30 minutes before joining a game. No time for that!
TG can do whatever they want with the money, as long as they keep the servers running properly and admins are on teamspeak in case there are problems!
So to all you admins, keep up the good work. You guys must have kicked 50 people last night... I don't know how you manage to play at the same time, especially like last night when someone was asking for a slot and all you can hear on teamspeak was "make that two...", "no, make that three!".
They just look for someone on my squad to cripple us
That explains a lot, was having a blast on karkland in your squad only to get kicked for another supporting member (was playing under the name hatiras). Hopefully the new profile/nick will help clear that up in the future lol. Though yeah it was an honest mistake I know :P

That's fine. I'll echo what everyone else has said, and say that it's ok to be a free rider here. There is no obligation to pony up the $9 per month, just come by, uphold the values we play by, and you will be welcome.
The reason that people can free ride here is that so many of us give money to the cause. Three battlefield servers, plus teamspeak hosting, does not come cheap. That's in addition to the other servers that TG already hosts.
So far, Apophis has never put out a fund raiser, a call for help, or upped the yearly fees (signifcantly). TG is not a profit generator, however. I suppose we cover costs, but Apophis and Luna are still working, so there can't be much left over.
We all know this, and want this place to stick around, so we forgo a coffee a week two. Well worth it, in my opinion.
It's unfortunate fact that the way that BF2 is meant to be played is only played here, and perhaps at our comrades in arms, Dead Men Walking.
That means that we have more players than we know what to do with. Everyone wants a slot, and not everyone can get one. So we have to prioritize: supporting members come first.
We may lose some potential members from that, but it can't be helped.
Your best bet as a non-paying member is to be obscenely active in the community forums. Once everyone knows your name, you will not be kicked by an admin: TG_JBRanger, and Smoking Tarpan, are great examples of this.
I got kicked right when I got in last night.. But no big to me.. I am contemplating a membership right now.. but I like some.. am a college student with limited $.. and i play ranked servers with my local friends (which is SOOO much more frustrating then playing on TG servers I admit)
So the question i pose.. which i did read the answer in the FAQ just wanted to know if it was updated... was when or if TG will get a ranked server.. i know they are really expensive... just wondering..

I can't see us running a ranked server. Even if they were free, I doubt we would run one. Ranked servers just too often attract a type of player we don't want here.

FROM THE TACTICAL GAMER PRIMER.
3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.
I do see your point.. team play sucks on ranked along with many other things.. but i really like the shiny medals. what can i say..i also like to follow my stats (not to say they are good by any means) It was just a thought anyway.. but i do see your point.

It would be more likely for TG to create their own stat tracking than us getting a ranked server. You wouldn't get medals or ribbons or a military rank, but you'd get to see how many flag caps you have, how often you've killed, been killed...simple things like that. It was discussed in the past...don't know if it'll ever come to light, though.

Just to clarify, Tactical Gamer is a not-for-profit community. Apo doesn't keep any money for his own. All money collected goes to the monthly costs of all servers, bandwidth, etc. It also goes to getting better and faster machines. Every cent given by members is given to the community.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
