Re: New maps?
I took a look at Wake island, that seems to be the best one so far. Not sure if their is enought room to move around with 64 players though. I said something to asch about it, im not sure if he looked at it yet.

Re: New maps?
Things will be a little tight with 64 players I guess but at least there is no artillery for both teams

Re: New maps?
Yeh I'm in the process of making a map "Port Terror" in my sig. As others have mentioned this is a very early version of the map, and I'm still learning the tools as well as dealing with the bugs. My map isn't pretty, but I've been focusing on CP placement, gameflow and balance over aethetics in this initial version.
I do think there is a place for TG to have a custom map server.. and I think most of these maps should be home grown by TG members so we have the freedom to edit as needed.|TG-12th| SHINER

Re: New maps?
If we do custom maps it can only be the most popular/downloaded ones or it will be hard to gather enough players

Re: New maps?
Thats the problem bizarro. We will have to pick a map and add that map to the rotation and it would have to be a required download for all people who play at TG. TG could also do a map pack after some really good maps come out that they want to use.

Re: New maps?
In some games, if there is a map that a player doesn't have, but the server is going to use it, it automatically gets downloaded while in the game.

Re: New maps?
The auto download like in COD is not in BF2. That would make it so easy. Hopefully someone will find a way to add one sooner or later.

Re: New maps?
The download size of the maps is just too big for a simple auto-download that exists in other games. Its possible but the maps would have to be brought over zipped from a location other than the game-server (to conserve bandwidth). In short it would require a lot of programming (from the developers at dice) and its most likely not going to happen.
The best idea is really a high-quality map-pack that is heavily promoted by all the bf2 fansites similar to a good mod. (my problem with the current map-pack is that some of the maps in it are unfortunately not that good)

Re: New maps?
Wake Island really is the only map I would add to the rotation for now. It would be an interesting experiment to add this to the standard rotation of the stock maps with a clear note in the info box that shows up during loading (for all maps) that people need to have this map installed and maybe a message at the start and end of each map to urge people to download it. As this map works well with <64 players having a couple of people drop might not be such a big deal.

There will undoubtably be lots of map packs. The one that has been released didn't do anyone any favors (they certainly rushed it to be the "first") as has been said these maps are not ready for prime-time. I'm still a big fan of a TG map pack. It will be interesting to see if whe do go that way, how much it hurts the server population. My gut tells me we have very little "random" pubbies these days.
