Exclamation The Official TG BF2 Quick Start Guide and FAQ

Welcome to TG! The only place you will want to play for teamwork and cooperative gaming.

This is a thread designed to help all new players get over the hurdles of joining a new community and expedite their fitting with our style of play. Rest assured that once you go TG, you won't look back.

Below are also answers to common questions asked in our forums. This is the first place you should check before posting a new question topic. It will be updated with new information, so don't forget to check back every once in a while.

TG BF2 Quick Start Guide:

Step 1 : Before you join one of our servers.

You should familiarise yourself with the rules and announcements on our servers. These rules are intended to provide balance and fair play and encourage teamplay, not to inhibit anyone's style of gaming, so read them carefully and feel free to PM an admin if you have any questions. To find the list of BF2 admins, go to the BF2 Admin List.

The Announcements section contains important information about any custom modifications we have on our servers or other valuable information. Check back here often. You can also find important information about the style of play endorsed by TG in the Tactical Gamer Primer.

Make sure your game is properly patched and you have the correct mods / boosters installed.

If you wish to play every possible night on TG servers, you will need the following:
  • The latest BF2 patch.
  • PoE2
  • Project Reality

Step 2 : Getting into the game.

Join one of our BF2 servers. In most cases, server 1 is the most populated and in U.S. peak times, it's quite full, so keep trying! Make sure you are aware of the Server Schedule, so you know what nights your favourite mod is playing. Take note that Supporting Members are entitled to reserved slots on TG servers and in some cases, new players are kicked to make room for them on a full server. Don't despair, try to connect again or become one yourself

You should also consider joining our BF2 channel on TeamSpeak, so you can get help with anything you need. Please note that everyone in the default channel is playing the game as well, so please keep chat to an absolute minimum. If you have questions or need to speak to someone at length, please ask an admin to join you in another private channel. They will be happy to assist you.

Step 3

Join an existing squad. It is required to join a squad on TG servers and you will be auto-kicked after 60 seconds if you don't, so be quick! Sometimes, you will see a squad named LEARN TG. This is the first squad you should try to join, since it's the one specifically designed for new players and the Squad Leader's main purpose it to help people new to our servers. Joining any squad being led by someone with a |TG| tag of some description is also a step in the right direction. |TG| veterans are familiar with our rules and very helpful to new players, so you can't go wrong.

If you like to fly, you should join a dedicated air squad, usually named JETS, ATTACK HELO, GUNSHIP, AIR SUPPORT or something similar. TG flyboys are happy to share their hardware and show you the ropes, but it's always best to get into the specialty squad, so you can communicate with them.

You should be well on your way to the best team-based gameplay you have ever experienced.

Step 4

Become a Supporting Member.

If you like the way we play, then show your support by becoming a Supporting Member. SMs receive many benefits, including the following:
  • Priority access to reserved slots on our servers. There is a script in place that will kick the longest playing non-supporting member on the server to make you a spot if the server is full.
  • Webspace for your files, images and movies.
  • @tacticalgamer.com email account.
  • Access to our SM-only Private Server to mess around, practice or indulge in our Monday night in-house shenanigans.
  • Priority places in scrimmages against other gaming communities. These are the pinnacle of competitive play and great fun for all.

When you do take the plunge, don't forget to register your forum account for reserved slots.

Step 5

Have a great time!

TG is all about fun. We are not a clan, we don't have tryouts and we don't grief new players. If you like the way we play and play by our rules, then you are welcome and can play TG for life.

Some of the items in this article have been reproduced by perry on the Tactical Wiki along with some additional information.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1: "It says I got kicked / banned for Team Killing, but I never killed a team mate. What gives?"
A: The kick message is generic for BF2 and can sometimes be misleading. If you are kicked for any reason, the server will say the same thing. A message will display at the top left of the screen giving you the reason before you are kicked back to the main screen. Please see here for instructions on what to do if you have been banned.

Before you contact an admin, please make sure to eliminate some of these possible reasons you could have been automatically kicked by the server:
  • To make room for a Supporting Member.
  • You did not join a squad within 60 seconds.
  • You broke one of our server rules.

DO NOT start a thread in the public forums asking why you were kicked / banned. Contact an admin via PM to clarify the situation.

Q2: "I became a Supporting Member, but I still get kicked to make room for other Supporting Members."
A: You need to register your BF2 ID in your forum profile. Please see here for how to register your reserved slot.

Q3: "How do I join an in-house squad?"
A: The in-house numbered squad divisions represent the best of the TG best. Dedicated individuals who work together regularly for fun and camaraderie. Information about all the TG in-house squads can be found here. There you will see which squads are recruiting, whether they are invite-only or are taking applications. You can always PM one of the recruitment officers to find out more.

Q4: "Where do I find information on tactics and gameplay tips?
A: JimmyTwoHand and Perry have done a great job compiling information from all over TG into the BF2 Training and Tactics Library on the Tactical Wiki. You will find a huge amount of information there.

This FAQ will be updated periodically, so be sure to check back often!

Cheers,

The TG Admin Team.

Re: NEW TO TG? Read this!

Can we get a rundown of what specific things should be taught during a Learn TG squad? Like a curiculum, or rubric of sorts, checklist perhaps?

That way we can be sure that every Learn TG squads are learning the same things.

Rules of TG
How to be a good Medic/Support/Engineer.
How to work as a squad.
Fireteam basics(?)
Pointers that they may or may not allready know.
Umm...

Be careful young Jedi, that is the way leading to dark side (locked squads). Once you see the dark power of organized and systematic gameplay, you may never want to start from scratch

Just joking. "TG Learn" is a great idea and a standard procedure makes it even better.

TG Learn was owning the enemy tonight but I don't think Bommando had to teach the *NEW* guys much.

Re: NEW TO TG? Read this!

Learn TG actually got filled with quite experienced players, wich I already expected.
Maybe you should enforce the goal of the squad more by kicking regulars and inviting non-regulars.
(I admit I was one of the players that joined, because I knew it would get filled with good players )

Re: NEW TO TG? Read this!

I think this only got tried the one time, so let's give it a try again tonight. I may not be there right for the start of PW night, should be around shortly thereafter. Look for LEARN_TG.. 1 or 2 regulars feel free to join up, and hopefully we can get a few new-to-TG folks to pop in!

People have to visit the forums to know to be on the lookout for LEARN_TG.. so why not start the learning before the even logging in -- read the SOP's to get the password

But if it's a bad idea, then, eh, I'll just play like normal.

Hello hansman! The version you're playing on PS2 is completely different from what we play on the PC.

Unfortunately... Plus, if anything, the public servers are much worse, I guess because more kids play consoles than pc's.
