Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
yeah, but not all CO's, even on TG, are neccessarily 'good' CO's. i've had friendly artillery fired on me and my squad on numerous occasions to kill off one or two enemies at a flag we were taking. often, it's AS we're flipping the flag.
you can't always move. artillery should not be used in places with friendlies, period. it should be only over enemy concentrations.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
The problem is that arty isn't instant. You can place arty on a location devoid of friendlies and in the short time it takes for the arty of fire and strike, there can be a couple squads of friendlies that show up in the kill box.
The problem with only firing at 'enemy concentrations' is that those same enemy concentrations attract not only arty but also aircraft, armor and agressive infantry attempting to crush and/or overrun those concentrations.Kornkob

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
I'm not saying that, but last night on Dragon Valley, I had a whole sniper squad, and we had a sweet spot, I called for ammo and supplies boxed many times, to no avail, and to be honest, what are the odds of a Support guy (if 1 on the team) to go all the way over to our position to resupply us?

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
Right, but you see that that is a problem with the teamwork on your squad/team, not a problem with the game? The game is set up right now so that, with proper teamwork, you will never run out of ammo. You could've requested a supply drop, you could've requested ammo via helo, you could've left your position temporarily (that "perfect" position isn't going anywhere...), and most importantly if you're the squad leader, you could've thought about it before hand and had a squad member carry ammo!

Oh, and if a bright red, pulsing symbol on your mini-map isn't enough to let you know that friendly arty is on the way, then you should uninstall this game now...

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
Aren't real sniper teams composed of one guy that pulls the trigger and a bunch of other guys that watch the flanks and spot targets? I think it's time to rework your squad loadout for a sniper squad. One or two snipers, a medic and a support would still work.

which is exactly why a real military force would never call in artillery in a place where their men were running around.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
I agree. I miss the aspect of bf1942 desert combat where you could actually hide without a uav or commander constantly spotting your position.

I think they included artillery in the game just for show bells and whistles, in real life with the scrap of the crusader project, it seems like our military isn't even that dependant on artillery as it is airpower.
A solution the the airpower problem might be to make only squares pop up for the aircraft if a laser designated is on the target by specops or something. The square makes bombing totally skill-less.
On a side note i'm looking forward to ghost recon 3 in nov.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
Asch and I are currently working on a server-side mod that aims to promote/enable tactical and careful play. The changes include removing commander assets (Scan, Artillery, UAV) and replacing bomber jets with fighter jets. Surprisingly it sounds like a few of you might actually be interested in these changes.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
I saw this info about 1.03 Update.
http://www.bfnation.net/
There are currently rumours circulating that the v1.03 update for Battlefield 2 will be released today - Monday, 3rd October. Apparently an email sent to Trusted Partners (those providing ranked game servers) was leaked, and it contained mention of an October 3rd release date for the patch. If correct, we could be seeing the update by around 9pm GMT tonight.
Stay tuned to BFNation, we'll bring you more information as we get it.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
You just need to piss the enemy off more. Get a squad to come kill you and you can respawn with full ammo. If I run out of ammo as a sniper, I'm not doing my job right.

Re: Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch Update
Okay, after looking around the forums it seems as if the release dates are either:
* today, the 3rd, at 9pm GMT - that has passed and there is nothing
* Wednesday, the 5th
* Friday, the 7th
The update should appear on http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/?M=DGigabyte P35-DS3R, 2GB, 8800GTS 640MB, Core2Duo E8400
