Angry Looks like there ARE cheaters playing BF2...

Just found this article and then checked out the site.....

Really, REALLY makes you wonder at how badly some people want to win....and just how far they'll go to seem "l33t". Since I hadn't seen anything posted regarding this and I've seen and heard more and more people saying "How in the hell did that guy do that?" I figured I'd put out a heads up to the |TG| community.

Pretty amazing what the BF2 hacks allow you to see/do. Unfortunatly, it's looking like we're heading down the CS/S route.

Makes you wonder doesn't it? Just sad IMO....

MSXSecurity Challenges Internet Gaming Experience With Hacks
As the online gaming community continues to grow, so does the opportunity to cheat.

MSXSecurity.com is an online forum that provides players with cheat software, also known as hacks, which alter the players’ abilities to navigate specific games and increase their chances for survival and ultimate defeat.

According to Daniel “Maz” Saltman, owner and founder of MSXSecurity.com, members pay for private VIP access at the site, which allows players to download hacks, such as Solo 2. That particular hack allows gamers to modify play on EA Games’ recently released Battlefield 2. Saltman said the staff of three at MSXSecurity.com was able to design a hack for that particular game which is undetectable by PunkBuster, a third-party company that maintains the game’s anti-cheat software, within days of the game’s release this past summer.

“EA released a demo version of Battlefield 2, which was available for all to download a few weeks before the retail game was out,” said Saltman. “It took us around three days to make a hack for the demo.”

As EA Games has stated that anyone who cheats on Battlefield 2 will be permanently banned from the game, MSXSecurity.com realized the Solo 2 hack had to be undetectable as a cheat, Saltman said.

The programmers based the hack around a poly-morphing code, so that with each download, Solo 2 changes into a unique cheat, he explained.

“We are only three programmers, but we were able to do what companies with thousands of employees haven’t been able to – craft a hack for this game,” Saltman said.

Although cheating to some is an ethical question, Saltman believes it enhances the ability of some to enjoy the gaming experience.

“Of course, I myself at one time despised cheaters. It’s just something you have to try. If you are into the game for the game play, then maybe it isn’t for you,” he said. “To me, it’s more about the enjoyment of the cheater, not the lack of enjoyment of those who don’t cheat.”

He said he started the site to share the enjoyment of cheating. The forum now has more than 43,000 members. It provides hacks for a number of multi-player online games, the most popular being Battlefield 2, Counterstrike Source, Counterstrike and America’s Army.

At any given time, Saltman said, there are five million people playing these games online. More and more, players are seeking a way to tweak the experience.

“MSX has grown into a home for many people,” Saltman said.
    It's all in the Reflexes.

Cheating is really sad, especially if you go to the length of hacking into the game how desperates that. I you a rubbish player then you should accept it and let the good players be rewarded for for actual skill on the game.

So what exactly does this hack do? What abilities does it give the cheater?

i.e. How do we spot these smacktards?

Fortunately for us, the ranking system and our rules keeps the cheaters away. Why play on an unranked server when they can cheat on the ranked servers and be rewarded for their *cough*ability*cough* to download a program and run it? And I assume that most cheaters aren't the type of teamplayer that TG attracts.. If PunkBuster can't do its job, then our admins can ban them for bunny hopping or UCB camping or whatever.

I don't have one handy, but I've seen screenshots of the game with cheats. Blue and red characters on wireframe terrain.. Doesn't look like it'd be fun to play at all. Pretty pictures keep my simple mind entertained, and wireframe terrain is not pretty!

They may be able to morph the code to keep the MD5 checkers away, but it's only a matter of time before PB figures out what their cheat is doing and detects that. Hell, they could be doing that right now and collecting names for a mass ban sometime soon. I remember reading about them doing something similar when I used to play America's Army. People wouldn't get kicked while using the cheat, they'd just log in one day and *POOF* -- banned.

I figure all the cheaters will play on ranked servers to get their unlocks faster. And if any do find their way onto TG server, there are so many admins that they wouldn't stand a chance lol.

Dug a screenshot up.. Where's the fog? Where's the sky? Bright red enemies?

But with the UAV and spotted command showing people on the mini-map, it's kinda hard to tell if someone was cheating or just saw you on the mini-map. Don't know what other crap is out there like aimbots and stuff.

You go ahead and do what you want to do. I installed a very popular and effective "hack" for the old CounterStrike once, right before a planned reformat. It was very informative. And discouraging. Google will take you to any cheats you want...

That said, do NOT come back to play at TacticalGamer with cheats installed, or without making absolutely certain that the cheats have been removed from your system. If we detect you with cheats on your system, you will be banned from TacticalGamer. No excuses. Period. End of subject.

Just be careful if you want to play around with them. I suggest a reformat after any experimentation before you try to connect to a TG server...

Nothing that a PB screenshot won't take care of... When they add that functionality.

I see some of those PB screenshots posted on punksbusted.com (looks like they just went offline for some upgrades) so the capability is there. They have the streaming MBL running for BF2 like they have for other games.

Well, I'm disgusted by this bull**** rationalization for cheating. I'm likely one of the poorest BF2 players on TG, but, like the vast majority of TG players, I've never been tempted to cheat. If Saltman thinks no cheating = no enjoyment, I sure as hell wouldn't want him as a neighbor.

Re: Looks like there ARE cheaters playing BF2...

What some of the cheats can do is posted on the main page of their site along with some screenies.

Version 9.1 Has been released!! We can keep this PB proof forever, only by changing a few things which takes less than 30 seconds! New features added are FULL ESP for health kits / ammo kits / mines / supply crates / grenades / and also veichles (heli, plane and land) ALSO INCLUDE ALL THE FEATURES OF BEFORE!! Click HERE for more info!

    UNDETECTED BY PUNKBUSTER

Works on Demo AND Retail with all patches (including 1.02) To answer a VERY common question, Version 9 does NOT use the tatnium base hook, nor do we add ANY PB Disabling methods. The worst you will ever get from PB is a 2 minute kick. (If they ever detect it, Going on 3 months of undetection ) Hack Features are: Wallhack, Chameleon Skins, Nosky, NoFog, Enemy Mine/Claymore ESP, NoGrass, NoWater, Colored Veichles+Planes and Much MUCH more.
From what the pictures show, everything can be highlighted/brightly colored even through walls......Enemy players, mines, vehicles....can get rid of all non obstruction cover.....etc.

Hopefully, not being ranked will keep most of these players off the servers. But you have to take into effect the popularity and exposure TG has been getting. If someplace claims to be the "best" at anything, you'll always have people wanting to test that label....

Time will tell, but just the fact that these cheats exist makes me second guess some things I've seen in game. And that, more than anything bothers the hell out of me. I'd love to attribute everything that someone does to skill, but sometimes you really have to wonder.

I dunno, just overall suckage IMO. But it's the price we pay for playing these types of games where eventually, someone will find a way around the system to cheat.

Re: Looks like there ARE cheaters playing BF2...

Would just like to point you in the direction of www.punksbusted.com and get sorted streaming with the master ban list.

Every server that streams to the PsB server adds any bans caught by Punkbuster, so if a cheat is caught on another server through screenshot or other checks they banned from all streaming servers.

    PsB also provide additional checks.

Re: Looks like there ARE cheaters playing BF2...

Actually, shouldn't the PB screenshot feature be able to detect ANY hack, no matter what? Unless the hack package didn't alter the visual environment (e.g. an accuracy hack). As far as I know, there's never been a hack created that manufactures fake screenshots.

Anyways, I think people are right in saying TG is unlikely to be a prime target for cheaters since it's unranked and heavily admin'd.

In any event, I think the worst situation was BF1942 with the radar hack. BF1942 was a game where you could make good use of stealth. BF2 is different, with UAV's, satellite scans, commander views, and the ability of all players to put things on your radar with Q-Spotted.

For that reason I don't think hacks would pose as much of a threat to BF2. The exception would be accuracy hacks, since BF2 weapons are so inaccurate anyway. Any accuracy hack for the Support class, for example, would be a real nuisance--but easy to identify.
