super fast arty repairs with the supply crate?
On the oman map (64 player) last night (9/30) I'm on MEC on the base close to the US artillery. We're defending the base / watching for supply drops on the now blown out arty.
I am staring at the arty because lots of weird thing are happening with it. A supply drop comes down and I'm right there, just had to take that 5 second swim to the beach front. I'm on the beach and suddenly 2 blown up artys and 1 half repaired arty (from the supply crate) go to full strength and start firing! We're talking 10 seconds between no arty and full arty firing....is that right? Were some of the settings changed?
I'm just wondering because I play as spec ops all the time I've never seen the supply crate repair so quickly...I also thought the oman arty was too far apart for a single supply crate to repair everything but I could be wrong about that.
Am I crazy about this? Usually keeping arty supressed is like taking candy from a baby but not last night.

Here's an example to help explain:
Assume fully repaired artillery has a health of 100
Assume fully destroyed artillery has a health of -100
Assume artillery becomes dysfunctional at 0
You don't need arty to be at "full strength" to fire. They just need to be above 0. The single half-repaired artillery would have kept arty available for the team. Since ALL arty runs off the same reload timer, dropping a supply crate and simply getting the other two above the 0 health mark would make them immediately available. If the reload timer was at a point that was ready to allow firing when the crate was dropped, all three would be immediate avilable.

And two C4 will get an asset down to 0 (immediately repaired by supply drop). You need four or five C4 to get an asset down to -100.

I believe that the USMC's arty on Oman repairs itself. I have been CO and seen them come back up without any intervention on our part.

Sounds like a bug I've seen on Dragon Valley before. We would destroy the artillery and then within a few seconds it would be back and fully repaired. Hopefully this was addressed in 1.03.

How are you able to tell if arty on the opposing team is fully repaired or not? Is there a damage indicator somewhere that i'm missing?

When wrecked artillery is repaired it goes from wrecked to smoking to fully repaired. The "magic" artillery wasn't smoking so I assumed that it was fully repaired. Theoretically it could be somewhere between 51% and 99% but I'm guessing that this bug is related to the artillery respawn timer which is normally 6 minutes but seemed to be changed to about 5 seconds. Also the "fresh" artillery piece would come back in the "down" position, indicating that it had just spawned.

I've found that it only smokes if it's near destruction and that the smoking goes away pretty quickly when it's being repaired.

From what I understand, arty will spawn all by itself after a time. I have blown up arty, or I thought I did only to have it come back the second a crate is droped. As said above the arty does not have to be at 100% to fire. When that happens, use the crate re-arm your c-4 and you will only need one to take it out. You need to be quick because the crate will heal the arty quickly. It would be nice to see a damage indicator on the arty as we do in the vehicles. But no such luck. We will just have to constantly take it out.

One thing that I do when I manage the enemy's assets is this.
I will blow the asset (hmmmm... this sounds bad.). I will destroy the asset(s) and then place additional c4 on the asset after it has been destroyed. This will allow me to instantly destroy the asset once it has "revived". Another ploy I like to do is when the enemy CO drops a supply crate nearby a destroyed asset I will steal C4 from it in order to keep my dance of destruction going."Umm Deputy these aren't my pants" - Common alarm cry of the North American Crackhead

There were times that the arty last night on Oman was repairing itself. There would be no supply crate or troops there, but the arty would be back up a couple minutes after taking it down. At one point I thought Seforest wasn't taking it down corrrectly.
It seemed to be the east most arty piece that brought itself back up. Bom got pissed because they got 1 arty strike out; 1 arty piece was back up with no troops or supply crate down. I had to dedicate Seforest to watching that arty full time to ensure it stayed down.

I think the standard arty respawn is 360 seconds. On a few maps, the respawn timer is missing, and they have a default respawn of about 30 seconds. I don't think Oman is one of them.
I'm pretty sure that the repair of arty is almost instantaneous with a supply crate (at least to get it to the smoking level), and you don't kill the reload timer unless you kill all 3 arty guns. The scenario mentioned by Apophis seems to make sense.
There is a concept of negative health, but I don't think it is taken into consideration when repairing something which is "destroyed". It is only used to determine the nature of the destruction of the item. Some vehicles have a "spectacular" death (not sure that's the word used), if they get taken down to -100 (definable) when they are killed. My guess is that a destroyed asset automatically has a health of -1, and a twist of the wrench brings them back online in all cases.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Well, I know that there are levels of destruction on the CO assets.. Sometimes, I go to repair something, and it takes forever to come back up.. Sometimes, it comes up immediately.

This is actually important to know. Spec ops carries 5 C4 charges. With 3 arty guns the spec ops guys are one short of taking out all arty at once because it takes 2 C4 charges each. So SL's/CO's should provide their guys with either a crate, a support guy, or two spec ops when tasking them to manage assets. That is something I have noticed is that I have been tasked with keeping assets down but haven't been given enough material support. This was not the case the other night on Sharqi though
