    Mishkan's thoughts on PassNights

Ph3ar for Mishkan hath thoughts over things. Anyhow here are my thoughts on Passworded Nights.

Currently I've felt that we've had a great influx of idiots coming into play games, so the passworded nights fail to meet up the quality which we should expect. They are instead just another yet hyped up pubby night. I feel that we can do alot better than this. This is not a complaint about how things are run.

This is merely a thread to start a discussion on how we can reduce the fools running around and still achieve high-quality games for our passworded nights.

    Here might be some issues:
Possibly people register just so they can see the password topic in the forums
We have people telling others about the passworded nights

    Here are some possible solutions:
Exchange the password over Teamspeak instead of on the forums, so it forces people to get on and get it there.
Setup a group on the forums that will only give the password to those in it (requirements I dunno) or instead of a password use the same kick script we have for supporting members but add-on another level.

I haven't noticed any problems whatsoever on pass nights.

The problem that I feel is that they are no different from a normal night I'd just get on and it wasn't passworded.

    The quality is not there.

I don't think this is a viable solution though. Forcing someone, especially a SM, to use TS isn't a good idea. What if their Mic is down? What if their TS is down? I understand and agree with the desire to keep TG idiot free but how many hurdles do we want to add here?

Disclaimer: My TS not working and I don't care to find out why right now.

Is the quality of the PW nights down, or the quality of the regular nights up? Can you explain what you mean by quality? Inexperience or lack of skills doesn't make a PW night... teamwork & communication do.

    Re: Mishkan's thoughts on PassNights

I was called "the lamest player evar" prior to the password nights. Same person that called me that was on the password server. <shrug> I started a squad on the passworded TG1, since all were full, called LAMEPLAYER. Then other people joined the squad and forced me to lead, and at that point the squadname made no sense due to it not being plural and no one else but me was lame.

The folks that joined me, however, were amazing and led to multiple flag captures/recaptures and flag defenses while I was just lame.

Well I hope I'm not one of the pubbers contributing to the edge being lost - I doubt it since I can rarely get time free on pw nites... But let this be a formal request from a non-SM who wishes to play on pw nites and who would still be interested in pw access.

how about a minimum post credential? If total posts = <10 then NO ACCESS TO PW.txt

Suppose wouldn't work due to many SMs not posting.

I'll live access to pw nite or not - but I must say the several pw nites I *have* played pw nite were highly motivated and competetive. But my last pw game was 3 weeks ago. The everyday games seem good enough, though I do see more noobs than a month or two ago, they aren't numerous or bad enough to take the edge off the games... Still a fan, and u guys are the only 2 servers I connect to.

Don't do the TS thing, please. It's such a hassle, see for some reason I can only have one mic. channel open at once. That means if BF2 is on, and I want to go talk in teamspeak, I would have to shutdown BF2 then go into teamspeak so I could talk, otherwise the button would work but nothing would come out. Or, if I am on teamspeak I cannot open BF2 until TS is closed, unless I don't mind not being able to talk on VOIP, which I do.

I think that we could change the password weekly for a start. Although the painful TS questions regarding where to find it would be abundant, it might get us going in the right direction.

I am also thinking that we should start actively using server 2 in some capacity. Maybe we could have password games on server 2 and allow server 1 to realise its potential. I feel that we are losing too many players due to getting kicked from server 1 when we have a whole other server to play on that is often empty.

I'll start throwing ideas past the other admins and see what we can come up with.
I agree, be sure to visit the thread I started yesterday on just this topic:

As for my 2 cents, last night's first two games were incredible. My squad for one was extremely challenged for both of those games. We had about 10 people drop off after those games (down to about 26 vs 26), and play quality decreased.

I was in the Hero squad yesterday and living up to that squad name was quite exhausting. Being on the west coast many of the regulars are gone by the time I usually get started - yesterday I was earlier. But even late password nights are usually fine.
On the public nights the quality varies. I try to find a squad with regulars.

    Re: Mishkan's thoughts on PassNights

Well, last night was my first passworded game ever on TG and I gotta say, I had a lot of fun. I tried to play as close to the rules as possible: I followed my Squad Leader, always spawned on him and tried to follow his orders to a T. Not only did it seem I did that, but everyone else in my squad did as well.

When I was reading the SOPs prior to playing the game, I was a bit intimidated by all the protocol there was. Granted, this protocol makes the squad and team incredibly more effective, but I was worried I would seem like a complete n00b if I didn't know it all. But it wasn't the case at all. Our squad communicated effectively and worked effectively.

My second game, I ended up being the squad leader. My team wouldn't move until I gave them an order and they asked for orders as soon as we were done with our current one. Also, when I got booted from the game and returned, both members of my squad left the squad and then rejoined so I could be squad leader again. Both of these guys had [TG] in front of their name and I was really impressed.

So, I guess my point is, if we make the requirements too strict for the games, we may be scaring off or not allowing players who could possibly be constructive members of the community to the group. Maybe they can't get TS or they don't have time to do a lot of posting, whatever the case may be, I think the current system is pretty good. I think because the community here is so tight, if you get really bad apples, you can just initiate a kick vote and tell the server to kick them. I know its a issue of trust there, but I think that is what really brings this community together. That's one of the reasons I came here.

But, since TG is getting more popular, its inevitable that you are going to get more immature players. But, I think that comes with the territory. My opinion is (and I know I am still really new) is that you guys should stick to what you do best: Community, character and teamwork. Run your servers for the mature gamers, not against the immature ones.
