    Tactical Mod Beta Test (Part II) -- 10/24 8pm EDT -- Server #2

    The tactical mod has gone client side! That's right, we decided the best way to get the features we want and stop the dreaded CTDs were to take more control over the mod.

    This Monday night (yep, that's the SM night again) we're going to go for another beta test. Everyone will be required to download and install the client mod, but don't worry... it's quick and easy.

    Please answer the poll so we can get an idea of numbers. We'll most likely run 48 players on 32 player maps this time around.

    How does this work? When we install the mod, will we be affecting our original BF2 game?

    Not at all. All of the files for the mod are in their own folder and the mod is only activated when you join a server running the same mod.

    Yea, Pre-1.0.3 you had to use a special shortcut to play on a mod server. Post-1.0.3 you just have to join the server.. If you have the mod installed, it will automatically load it up.

    I just got a question about that batch file. Is it overwriting any thing I should worry about?

    Nope, if you open it up you can see that it's just working inside the tactical-mod folder. It just copies over the maps from default BF2 and then updates them with the changes we've made.

    I believe the batch file copies the maps into the mod directory and then makes changes to the copied maps. So this should not overwrite anything for vanilla bf2.

    Just a reminder folks that tonight we'll be play testing Tactical Mod. Now that it's client side, we shouldn't see any of those nasty CTDs. Duke has also added a new feature that gives the assault class three (3) smoke grenades!!!

    I previously voted "Interested and will download before Monday evening" but I now doubt I will be able to attend.

    I'm up for it. My 2 cent tactical gamer community does stuff to help the game play better with this mod. That EA can not do thank TG.

    I was just able to load up Mashtuur without a CTD, so that's a good start

    Hehe, and it would be even better if the mod was activated on the server! I'm working with Tempus to get everything ready for the event tonight. Hopefully it will be up soon and we'll have a little time to test things out. I'll post again when it's ready.
