LEARN TG squads
Given that we're having a noticable amount of new faces on the servers recently, I'm going to be trying to head up some LEARN TG squads occassionally in-game. As the title suggests, these squads should be for people new to our servers where we can give them a good idea of how to play our style of BF2 (kit assignments, tactical movements, teamwork, possibly fire teams, etc.). The original idea isn't mine (I think that it was Bom's idea originally), but I'd like to use it more to help 'on-board' some new talent to our style of play.
Someone pointed out after our 3rd or 4th game last night that the LEARN TG squad had 5 TG tags in it. I actually had a fair amount of churn through the squad last night, anywhere from 4 new guys to 1 new guy. But as a request, if you're a TG regular and see 3 TG tags (or familiar names) in the LEARN TG squad already, please leave a space open for someone that is new.
On the other hand, if it's just me with a bunch of new guys and you want to help out, feel free to join up. I'd like to see no more than 3 regulars (including myself) in the squad, just so we can make these squads as productive as possible.
One last thing - if you see someone in my squad breaking a rule, let me know on TS ASAP. This came up last night on Oman where we were using a Blackhawk to clear some CPs for the ground pounders, and one of my guys took out the attack helo while it was taking off. The player let me know and I let my guy know not to engage people in the UCB while they're taking off. He didn't even realize that he was breaking a rule, apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. **This is exactly what this squad is for.** Giving new guys the opportunity to play our style and begin to change their style of play should make the transition to 'mature gaming' that much easier for everyone.
If you're new to the server and would like to join the LEARN TG squad, send a message over the in-game chat. I may not see it right away but I will eventually in the admin tool, and try to clear a spot and send you an invite. And if we're playing on a full nite and you don't see a LEARN TG squad, veteran SLs please think about starting one up.
I'm looking forward to taking down veteran squads with some new guys in the near future...

Re: LEARN TG squads
I agree...I was going to suggest this last night. Maybe only have 1 other regular besides beatnik so that that squad member can lead by example and show others how it is done. I think that it is a good idea and hopefully it will attact more people to play and stay at TG

Re: LEARN TG squads
The problem is that the regulars will still join even if you ask them not to. Then when you ask "3 of you to leave", everyone will want the other guy to leave.
Hey, I know! Just ask them all to leave!!!
Great post Beat!

Re: LEARN TG squads
I can head up a LEARN squad if one is not already set up. Great idea!

Re: LEARN TG squads
This is something we can all do. If no one wants to leave simply kick the last person that came onto the server. It seems more fair that way.

Re: LEARN TG squads
The only reason I couldnt give support to "TG Learn" idea was because of the very limited times I could play. But I will do my best to support it as a squad member or leader whenever I can find time...

Their should be a manage button when you bring up the squad screen.

Wow Beatnik...
I know they say it's never too late to go back to school - but heck, what did you really need to teach Xeil and Santa??!!

Re: LEARN TG squads
Well Xeil and I have really horrible aim and just plain suck at this game. For some reason we decided that Beatnik, of all people, would be the best to teach us how to shoot.

Re: LEARN TG squads
Yea, I was only on the TG learn squad for 1 round on Mashtur. Then I left the squad as Beatnik asked so there could be room for new guys.I don't see why it would be so hard for anyone to leave the squad if they're a regular.

Re: LEARN TG squads
Be great to see more of these. Is there a way to tell if there is a learn TG squad on the other team?
I agree, it is near impossible to delivery the TG experience you want with you and 5 pubbies. I'd almost say 4 TGers would be optimal. The more TGers inthe Learn TG squad the smoother and more impressive it'll be for the new guys and the more likely they will be to come back and adopt the TG style of play. If you ever start one when I'm on give me a shout.
And remember boys and girls, there's a wonderful minicamp taught by this uber 1337 d00d that you can come to, to learn a thing or two as well.Xbox Live Gamertag: TG ABRA

Re: LEARN TG squads
Honestly I think this could be a regular addendum to the minicamps. Afterwards we could infest the server with a few learn TG squads. I can see these being much more benefitial to the community at large.
