Interest in a Tactical Mod Internal Scrim

Here's a possible setup for the proposed scrim. Note that this is not a scrim signup thread, and this post is NOT a scrim announcement. Rather, it is simply gauging interest.

Players: 16v16 (Total of 32. Duh.)

Maps: 16 player versions of Dalian Plant, Gulf of Oman and Mashtuur City

Version: Tactical Mod 0.3

The role of the CO will most probably be as an information gathering position. He or she will also provide general direction to the squads, but as no assets bar supply drops are available, will have to rely on recon by the players in order to build up a picture of the battlefield.

The role of squad-leader is vastly different in the Tactical Mod than Vanilla BF2. Vanilla BF2 is about reaching an objective as fast as possible, where as the Tactical Mod focuses more on careful and safe maneuvering, and creative thinking in operations. As a result, it is possible to be a fairly average leader in the original version, but really shine in the mod. SLs must be prepared to use all aspects of the terrain, and respond dynamically to enemy movements via well-executed tactics.

No restrictions will be placed on use of vehicles in these games, particularly as the 16-player maps do not feature aircraft beyond helicopters.

Opening strategies would be prepared ahead of time and PMed to the relevant players. However, far more important would be a player's familiarity with the map and terrain.

Teams would not be formed of in-house divisions, but these divisions may opt to be in the same squads. Other players who sign up would be assigned to a squad by the COs of each map.

Possible date: Some time before January, due to the absence of any other scrims.

If you are interested in taking part in a scrim like this, please vote in the poll and reply with comments, as well as specifying if you are interested in COing or SLing.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

So I might as well kick this off:

Munchkin, interested in SLing. Nice post munchkin, good idea. I'd give you some +rep, but...ya know how it goes.

Sounds interesting Munch. Would be a nice change of pace from our previous scrims and could show us what Tactical Mod is like in an organized event.

Thanks for taking the initiative on this Munch!

Awesome! I was eyeing the list of changes gleefully a little while ago, and I'm really looking forward to whipping out that SIMRAD, as well as the changes to the medic and support classes.

oh yeah. i'm so down with more discipline and squad cohesion than twitching. when push comes to shove i can twitch, but i pine for the former.

Re: Interest in a Tactical Mod Internal Scrim

I'm interested - but disagree with the small player limitation.

The greatest strength of the Tactical Mod is that it finally balances the aircraft with the ground troops.
It's an injustice to take them out. Truly tragic. The mod is what BF2 was supposed to be (here at TG) - combined forces, balanced and tactically constrained.

If we get enough players, change the map size to 64.

I agree with StrikeFear... find out the number of players interested (including non-SMs) and we could have a full fledged 32v32 game going.

I can't speak on behalf of all the 42nd, but I am sure there would be a fair amount of interest from our direction, as all of us that tried the Tac-Mod that I know of really enjoyed it.
