What can our community improve on?
Just thought I'd get some ideas from around the table.
Generally, as a Battlefield 2 community, what can we improve on in terms of tactics, coordination and communication?

Re: What can our community improve on?
Give the community a compelling reason to fill 2 servers regularly. We fill one to an overflow status of 62 people +20 outsiders wanting in. We have to find a way to get that overflow into server 2. Is there any way to have stock messages in game to advertise server 2 as our SF server?

Re: What can our community improve on?
We need to improve the communication to random/new players.
The message on the welcome screen doesn't give a clear picture about the teamwork and communication that goes on, leaving players unprepaired.
An additional message saying "Join the appropriate squad, there are seperate ground, jet and heli squads. 1 man rambo squads will be frowned upon." instantly explains our principle that jet pilots should be in the same Jets squad and that you should join a existing squad. This allows them to see the teamwork and allows the TG regulars to explain any rules when needed.
Until you join a squad and see those all those green dots swarming around there SL's number you don't realise how different TG is.
----------------------------
There have been to many 1 sided battles lately (i'm not going to mention the S word), but this doesn't mean you can't have fun. It's very rare to get a complete victory (capturing all the flags), we all know how unbalanced some maps are so lay off the other team if you have a huge lead which they can't come back from. When down to 1 or 2 flags and you are constantly getting bombed or artillery on your head it is hard to have fun when you can't spawn without dying within 2 seconds. If a random joins and they get killed by a jet, then a helicopter, then artillery over and over they won't see what TG is really about.
Let other people practice flying those jets once you've smashed the enemy into oblivion, let someone else practice flying the helicopter or firing TV missiles.
I'm not saying roll over and let the other team kill you, just relax a bit once you have a garanteed win, try new ideas, I often catch myself when CO'ing a dominant team going for the kill, I then think how I would feel being on the recieving end. With that 300 ticket lead do I really need to artillery that last enemy base? No, so I save it for when a squad requests it. This is the perfect time to test new tactics and ideas (CO's and SL's).
Hopefully this isn't too controversial and you see my point. (its early so might not of explained myself clearly), its been to serious around here lately, all rules and stuff, we need to go back to us and everyone else on the server having fun.

Re: What can our community improve on?
Battles need to be slowed down. Too many people prefer the run and gun or "get the flag now!" approach, as opposed to people who run very specific tactics. I would love to run a more defined set of battle plans, but just can't do it because things happen way too fast. This is a general problem with the game though, I'm not sure the community can do much about it.

Re: What can our community improve on?
I think one way to help that would be to increase spawn times even more.. However, that would need to be accompanied by a drastic increase in spawn times for certain equipment, notably jets and choppers.

3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

Re: What can our community improve on?
I would like to see vehicle spawn time increased, not player spawn time though. I can't help but feel bad for the people we kill when I'm flying a chopper in 1 chopper maps...it's just dumb and I very much realize it doesn't quite show what TG is about to the new players but then I don't want to be on the receiving end of said chopper so I just try to fly it myself =/ Some maps like Zatar or Sharqi shouldn't even have choppers. Or put them on 3-4 min respawns

Re: What can our community improve on?
Tweaking ought to be left to the Tactical Mod. It's less friendly to new players if they join the server and all the spawn times are different compared to every other sever they've every played BF2 on.

Re: What can our community improve on?
Pub servers don't have the same level of organization/teamplay as we do and that changes the power of certain vehicles a lot. For example last night on Zatar, we had all the flags except airfield. There was only 2 ways the enemy could be coming from. Airfield/UCB area and the water with boats/BHs. On a pub server, boats and choppers would make it across the water and to the farm area easily but last night I just had our CO (Preston) spot all the boats/blackhawks trying to make it thru and every single one of them died horribly since they don't have any defense against attack choppers.

Re: What can our community improve on?
Area of improvements
- Procedure library. A platform for sharing squad procedures and tactics. The focus will be on simplicity and applicability. Discussion to improve and find the most simple solution to team cohesion and coordination problems. The result(s) should be published as a short procedure. There may be different versions (the spectrum is 1) simple 2) modified military 3) exact military procedure)
- Training Officer Handbook. Very short but informative guideline for organization and direction of particular training sessions.Last edited by John CANavar; 12-06-2005 at 01:21 PM.

Sorry, I guess I was mistaken when I saw jets flying around on Zatar.

Re: What can our community improve on?
I was talking about the boats/blackhawks themselves. There were 2 jets in the air last night but we had 2 good pilots on MEC so they didn't really have time to do much damage to us.

Re: What can our community improve on?
Our grammar. The question is, "on what can we improve?".

Seriously...I think there's always room to improve in the area of preaching the TG way on our servers. I'm guilty of not always stepping up and introducing some tactics when my squad's behaving like a bunch of Rambos.[TG]1stMIP-Manner
